I think this kid has great potential, and love the fact that he is in CT. That said- I think it is not a given the he will land in Storrs and the staff has a lot of ground to make up. I'm going to remain optimistic, but feel the yard needs to manage expectations on this one.

Show him where Thabeet was ranked when he came to UConn. Show him a video of Thabeet. Show him where Thabeet was drafted. Show him Thabeet's bank account. Then tell him Thabeet never had his range and couldn't hit a 3-pointer to save his life.

Speaking of the Cooley train, Sidiki Johnson has been working out in my NY gym the past several months. Probably safe to say he didn't leave PC in good academic standing.

It's medical waiver for leaving, so PC is fine. Cooley would have strapped him to a classroom chair if it was anything else. They can't afford any slips because of the wonderful Keno Davis era.

+1

But honestly, how could someone like Paschal turn down UConn after hearing that?

Is he coming back or transferring?

He's gone, word is it's a health issue, you have to read between the lines I guess. This is also why he left Arizona and they were not penalized either. I feel bad for the kid, he seems like a genuinely nice person.

He's gone

Fortunate for PC the 930 four year and 940 two year standards don't start until 2014-2015 season, from my understanding. It would be tough for PC to meet those standards with their last three years of 896, 904, 917 from 2008-2009, 2009-2010, 2010-2011; how does PC stand from the 2011-2012 season. The players PC has to worry about are Coleman, Giplaye, Dixon and maybe Gardner (not sure if he ever counted.

Johnson wouldn't hurt (if ever) until next summer, though he did transfer mid-year, so was he on scholarship the second semester at PC?

I thought you might appreciate this. I was in my gym tonight and talked to Vincent Council for a few. He said he's been working out for NBA teams, and either just finished or is about to play in front of the Celtics. He is a very nice kid.

Pc cooley train is all over him. They want this kid and abu

I want Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba. I think the odds of either PC or me getting what we want are pretty similar.

I met this kid a couple of times when he was a freshman at Trinity Catholic in Stamford and even had a brief conversation with him once. He was a very good kid, quiet and respectful. He also was (operative term being was) as thin as anyone I had ever seen. Legitimately close to seven foot at that time but (no exaggeration) had a 28" (perhaps 30" but I doubt it) waist.

I wish him well wherever he ends ups but (obviously) my hope is that we land him (for reasons I won't get into I think we have an advantage over all other schools).

He is #1 on my wish list including every player in the 2014 class. By this time next year IMO there will be no player in the 2014 class who can make as big an impact as Chukwu. The guy is an absolute terror on the defensive end already relatively speaking. He is an intellect and student of the game.

Never been so high on a kid potentially coming to UConn. A beast is an understatement as fast as this kid will develop. I give him six stars. :)

Interesting that on one site [247?] they have some players projected as to where they are going to college by recruiting gurus. They have Chukwu going to Indiana I think and Abu to UConn.

Dixon graduated and all others left in good standing. Top notch APR's this last year. One graduation and no transfers, everybody got good grades. We are ok, but any transfers with kids in bad academic shape and we would have been cooked.

Johnson was never the same after the bat attack at Marquette.

You just don't come back from that.

That's true. Funny stuff though.

247 gurus had Dan Hurley going to Baylor....how'd that work out ;) Hope we get him!

Abu and Terrell talking package deal. Are you guys in on Terrell? http://zagsblog.com/articles/abu-terrell-still-talking-recruiting-package/

The way i see it. Oubre to Kansas/Baylor. Abu/Terrel to FL and we'll get Black. I'm ok with that.

929 one year score for 2011-2012, someone didn't do what you say he (they) did.

PC now stands at a multi-(4)year score of 915:

2008-2009: 896
2009-2010: 904
2010-2011: 917
2011-2012: 929

I repeat that PC is lucky the next bump in regulations doesn't come into effect until 2014-2015 season. The next bump will require scores of 930 over 4 years, or 940 over two years. If PC has a score lower than around 950 for the 2012-2013 season, they will not be eligible in 2014-2015 (assuming regulations don't change again). You better hope that Johnson doesn't count as any negative points. (I know you said he got a medical exception, but then again you thought Dixon was good and the others left in good standing).

How bad do you have to mess up to get a 929. Now you have me doubting what I have been told to be true. This score as you pointed out tells me that Coleman must have really hurt us? We did not have a full load of ships either I don't think. Dixon graduated the school, does it matter what his GPA was when he graduated?

GPA doesn't matter at all. You don't even get credit for graduating. All that matters is that you return for school the next semester. That's it. You are only excused from returning if, ONE, you left for the pros having completed the semester (GPA doesn't matter), or TWO, you transferred with at least a 2.3 GPA, or THREE, you graduated. That's it.

Got it thanks. You guys have this down. Unfortunately it looks like we will become as proficient in this as you guys became. Anyway this will ring hollow because I'm a PC fan but it's nice to see Calhoun and now Ollie fix it right. Just like Cooley is trying to do with the Keno mess he inherited.

If by fix it you mean rig it, you're right.
They rig it the way Kentucky does, with students steered to classes, unrigorous intersessions, etc.

It's OK though because the athletes have merely been guinea pigs for what's to come. The plan is to try out this system on regular students now, with schools emphasizing full credit 3 or 4 week courses as well as video seminars for credit.

Sadly, when it comes to APR, "fixing it" is what it's all about.
