Joe Davis kicked UConn's tonight - in both games
Should have walked him intentionally a few times
UConn hitters helped by chasing some bad pitches
Just a bad night overall
Too bad

Unfortunately

That first UConn Houston game was one of the best sporting events this year for UConn fans. Tight. Well played and pitched. Two damn good teams. Saw it with a crowd I could have counted. Unfortunately ... 3400 saw the second runaway.

Current RPI for all AAC teams, per the Warren Nolan website, which has 8 teams in the RPI top 90:

51 - Houston
16 - East Carolina
27 - South Florida
89 - Cincinnati
18 - Connecticut
26 - Central Florida
78 - Tulane
25 - Wichita State
184 - Memphis

Chris Jones was speculating last night that with Houston winning this series that they are in pretty good shape for an at large bid, also thought it was possible that 5 or 6 teams could make it to the NCAA tourney. 6 might be a bit much, but at this point 5 would not be a big surprise to me. It is just a tough conference.

Good point that if that the two games were reversed with the tight game being the second one, then Wallace and Poulin very well might have been used in that game.

D1Baseball's take on Houston:

>>Kendall Rogers’ Five

1. Houston clinches share of American regular season title
The Cougars are one of several teams where you’re spending half the day trying to figure out how their RPI is so low. After all, they entered Friday leading the American, which is one of the nation’s better RPI conferences. Well, despite having an iffy RPI on Friday, the Cougars made yet another statement by clinching a share of the conference title with a doubleheader sweep of red-hot Connecticut, 6-5 and 10-1.<<

The second game was my 1st UConn baseball game. I'm gonna put a line through it.

Houston playing to clinch an outright AAC title today with still a weekend of play left. Houston might be a tough out today.

Chris Jones says Chase Gardner is back to full health after almost missing last week's start. Hopefully he'll pitch that way as well.

Top 1st, Chase Gardner leaves the bases loaded with no one scoring. 26 pitches for Gardner that inning. UConn coming to bat.

Huge top of the first. Don't care too much about the pitch count with the quality arms that we have available in the back end of the bullpen.

Number of pitches is an indicator of how much Gardner had to struggle to get through the inning. It is worth reporting. Hopefully he'll settle down, and we'll see Wallace and Poulin late in the game, and not really early.

I’m a little worried about the offense. It seems there’s been a lot more lazy fly balls the last 2 weeks

Top 2nd, Gardner allows a walk but then gets through the inning with no problems.

Not worried, we have gotten out hit twice in the seven game stretch over the last two weeks. Amazing how anxious this fan base gets after one bad day, and one inning of hitting today.
