For those who don't recognize the name Shirley Povich (Georgetown's field), he was an iconic sportswriter for the Washington Post starting in the 1920's. He "retired" in 1973, but continued to write sports columns for the Post until his death at 92 in 1998. His last column appeared the day after his death. Growing up Northern Virginia, I loved reading his columns and articles as he covered (mostly) bad Senators' and R*dsk*ns' teams through the years. Unfortunately, if anyone under about 60 knows a famous Povich, it's his son, Maurie.

Bottom 1st, a 1 out rbi double makes it 1-0 Georgetown, a Georgetown base runner is thrown out at the plate on the play for the second out of the inning. A 2 out rbi single makes it 2-0.

Top 3rd, first 2 UConn batters reach base on a Padilla walk and a Simmons single. A 1 out wild pitch moves them both into scoring position. A Stock sac fly brings in a run to make the score 3-1.

Bottom 3rd, Peterson strikes out the first 2 batters, but a 2 out solo homer makes the score 4-1 Georgetown. Strikes out the next batter to end the inning, but this is certainly not what we are used to seeing on opening weekend series nights from Peterson.

Bottom 4th, another homer, a 1 out solo job, for the Hoyas. 5-1. This is followed by a 2 run homer to make the score 7-1.

Peterson has not been himself the last 3 starts. Wrong time of year to this happens. Hopefully Coach Mac can figure out if he is tipping pitches and straighten him out before next week.

Bottom 4th, another Georgetown homer with 2 outs brings in 2 more runs, making the score 9-1. Safe to say Peterson does not have it tonight.

Peterson just not good tonight, hopefully he can reset for next week

When you see a guy suddenly look like he’s throwing for the home run derby, he’s either injured or tipping his pitches. I’m guessing it’s the latter.

Sayonara #2 seed (or as we said in Vietnam......end of mission).

Bottom 5th, after a lead off double, Peterson strands the runner for a scoreless inning at last. 9-1 Hoyas.
