Bottom 9th, with the game tied at 7, Ferrer in left field, Stock in center. Sullivan starts the inning on the mound.

Bottom 10th Justin Willis in to pitch.

Willis with a scoreless inning with 2 strikeouts. Willis gets the save, UConn gets an amazing 8-7 win after coming back from what looked like the dead where for the most part they played some pretty poor baseball.

UConn still has not lost a weekend series opening game, now that is pretty nice.

Gutsy win considering how bad they played. I suppose you get these kind of wins against these kind of teams in the Big East, but that's also the bad side of it is that you can't afford to lose too many of them or it's a killer.

Just a strange game all around. Was really perplexed at why Pender's would pinch hit Ferrer in the 9th with a righty pitching and Simmons a lefty due up. It worked out because of the error, if not that is a double play inning killer. Especially since Ferrer hasn't played in over a month and is a slower runner. Just thought it was a crazy time to put him back in to get his feet wet.

As you guys always say, that is baseball for you. Just a crazy day and a great win.

Nice job Hook C - another W. Let's keep rolling.......

-> Game Notes
  • The comeback in the ninth was the first for UConn since coming back to beat Coastal Carolina, 5-4, in 12 innings on March 7, 2021.
  • The Huskies scored three runs in the ninth inning to send the game to extras for the first time since 2017 when Jack Sundberg hit a bases-clearing double to tie the game against Houston (5/5/2017).
  • UConn is 5-0 in extra-innings and has won all five games in the 10th inning.
  • The Huskies are 11-0 in weekend openers this season.
  • UConn is 9-3 in one-run games this season.
  • Justin Willis tied Caleb Wurster for ninth all-time with 12 career saves. <-

Top 1st, Smith with a leadoff double, Stock with a single to put runners at the corners, and Dana with an rbi single to make it 1-0 UConn with no outs and 2 runners on. Bushling follows with an rbi single, 2-0 UConn with no outs. Infield error on a Huber batted ball brings in 2 more runs to make it 4-0 UConn.
