It was certainly an unfortunate loss. But you don’t have to go back to far to find worse losses, like to unranked NC St just last year or to 21st ranked MD the year before or to unranked GT the year before that.
Nope, losing to TN is always the worst loss.

Pretty aggressive reach in, with some contact, before getting the tie-up but the ref that called it was adamant is telling the other refs that she had the foul, but I the other 2 refs deferred to her, rather than necessarily agreed. It's hard not to like / respect Hidalgo, however, she plays with joy and passion, and accepts her fate without a lot of fanfare. Still think ND has the best overall roster (closely followed by Uconn) among the 8 teams in the hunt for Natti
They missed that one. The foul should have been on Wesbeld (pretty sure it was her) who initially raked the State player across the face, then HH got the tie up and they all went to the ground. I didn't think HH fouled there, but Wesbeld certainly did.

“ unranked NC State” my buttocks. . NC State was a final four team. Snap shots of early season games are worthless.
OK. I’ll concede that NC State was a very good team by the end of last season, despite losing 7 games. But the same could be true for TN this year, which is why I consider UConn’s loss at TN to be “unfortunate.” But I would certainly not call it the “worse loss in many years.”

Hidalgo fouled out on a bad call but got away with a couple. Timing stinks for ND, though
I think that her and Juju both jump into the defender almost every time they drive and almost never get called for a foul. My point is they benefit from the whistle way more than they are hurt from it. Problem yesterday is NCS took the ball to the hoop and ND had a difficult time defending at the rim.

Nika was out and Ines had to play point (she was great!).
I always liked Ines. Her getting the last minute invite to Connecticut was a "whoa that just happened!" moment. I also felt like she put in a tremendous amount of work in the off-season and came into her sophomore year really fit. Does anyone know how she's doing?

(Yes, I'm too lazy to google it myself.)

It looks like Inês's minutes have declined a bit in the course of the season, but she's still part of the main rotation.

NCSt had 3 players I thought were WNBA material in Rivers, James, and Brooks. They certainly looked that part when we played them. Minor upset at best.

I wonder how many of the top 10 have lengthy discussion on their boneyard forums about UConn to go on for so long like this OT loss (big deal) by ND. Either this forum stays with what it is supposed to be about - UCONN - or it will dissolve into anything and everything. I for one think allowing this dialogue to continue on this Boneyard forum for so long is wrong.
Please get a life, if you don't see the nexus for almost all of us in regard to ND you are able like all of us to move on. Look at head-to-head matchups, rankings, rivalries and more. You want to stifle this thread, it seems the masses think not.

Has anyone explained the Ignore Thread option to you?

She's doing ok. Looks like she's started about 1/2 the games. 6.0 ppg. Shooting 39% / 38%. Second on the team in assists.

(u)NC and NC State are completely different schools. Nothing will chap the backside of a State fan more than someone confusing them with their hated rival UNC.
:(oops, my bad in my hast I screwed up.

I don't think ND will fall too far in the rankings. My guess is the top 4 will shift with ND dropping behind USC, and UConn staying at 5 for this week.

Is it not amazing that Wes can take a fairly highly rated team pre-season...
-Have a disappointing early season
-But is standing at the end with a strong, well-coached team
that no one wants in their bracket.
Considering what he did last season, I don't think anyone is surprised or amazed. Coach Moore is well respected and this performance is typical of most of his squads if you ask me.

Three games that should open some eyes in the BY. Of course, ND losing to NC St is one. But the other two are USC unable to pull away from Illinois despite getting 9 blocks and 11 steals, and UCLA barely squeaking past Iowa. They’re both wins and that’s what matters. But I can’t help thinking that both opponents would be right at home in the Big East, and are roughly comparable to Creighton. I think if UConn could only escape Iowa with a 2 pt win people here would be in sack cloth and ash. A 10 pt win over Illinois is not so different from UConn’s earlier win over Creighton. But it is a pretty clear demonstration that USC is not on another level from UConn, and that early season loss to them was really as close as the final score suggested.

One last observation: the fact that Kate Koval gets less playing time than Jana these days means that Niele is going with a small lineup rather like Geno’s. UConn is in good company and is competitive with the best teams now.
'Early season', Bone Dog? It was the Huskies' 12th game this season.

I think perhaps you under estimate Iowa, a tendency that runs rampant on the Boneyard, although we'll never know.

For a reason NC State was preseason #9 — which just happens to be their new ranking as of today, after spending most of the season in the lower part of the top 25.

Throughout my college days at NC State, I was the statistician for our bowling club. By my senior year, both the men's and women's bowling teams were nationally ranked and in 1988, our women made it all the way to nationals. As statistician, I got to go and watch. It was very exciting. But my excitement turned sour when I looked at the championship program and we were referred to as "The North Carolina Wolfpack". It was that way in the program and all of the signage, advertising the national rolloff.

Very disappointing but this kind of thing is more common than one would believe.

I think I still have that program and if I can find it, I'll show you what I mean.

Ouch. Yeah announcers sometimes slip and refer to State as North Carolina - it’s bad enough we live in their shadow without being referred to as them!

Along those lines I was on a cruise ship back in December and on all of the itinerary and flyers and stuff around the sports bars they were advertising for a watch party for the college football playoffs featuring Texas vs South Carolina! (Texas was playing Clemson).

You beat me to this post. I agree completely. The teams above us in the polls have been struggling. UConn and ND both can put up alot of points however to win big games you have to keep your opponent from scoring more points then you and UConns D is really good with depth.

I had mentioned in my posts pre January we needed 3 scorers. Well Azzi is back. We also have Ash Kaitlyn and KK coming on strong. That gives us 6 scorers. No other team has that. Now add in Jana at 6'5 and her height can compete with UCLA TCU and Texas. However those 3 teams dont have UConns scoring attack or defense. I heard Ice will be back soon too. We've come along way and now Im praying for Caroline to be able to get in shape for our next run. We are Very Dangerous now.

Respectfully disagree…there was a lot of contact and Hildalgo took a huge chance being that aggressive.

I didn’t think the call really impacted the outcome of the game. ND wasn’t playing good team ball…way too much one on one. They need to integrate Citron (who I think is terrific) and Westbeld into the offensive better.
I thought that the other ND player involved in that scrum (Citron?) commited a foul right before Hidalgo got called for it.

Hmmm, ND has 5+ scorers in Hidalgo, Miles, Citron, Westbeld, King, etc that put up more points than our group, and good defensive stats as well. I believe the Natty will be decided by these two relatively small teams, despite the height they will be giving away

I like “sack cloth and ash”.
