were not done imo. maybe 1 more ship player and 1 more walkon.

i was just wondering if aj picked vandy or if there is something else going on there. maybe can't qualify. things all of a sudden went quiet on him this weekend. next year we already have a couple kids on radar from jucos(morris and neally) so i wouldnt be suprised if we keep tabs.

Kids taken are huge. 300 lbs. already for most OL. LB's already pushing 240.

Otherwise, class seems typical except for transfers and JC kids. McNeal, Philips, Shortell, Donhohue and Whitmer are huge gets IMHO. Despite the ranking these kids make me feel that we are light years ahead of years prior.

Coach P seemed to have penciled in Puyol to Kick FG's already.

Just a thought/question. At the beginning of your statement you say aside from size of some of the recruits the class seems pretty typical, name the transfers and JUCO's as huge gets. And then finish your statement with the fact you feel "we are light years ahead of years prior." How could that be? Sounds contradictory to me.

Don't get me wrong, I do agree they are huge gets and this year is better than years past. I don't think this class is "typical". The smallest in this class is 5'11". The shortest in last years class was 5'9" and there were 4 guys under 5'11". The year before there for 2-3 more I believe I saw when I looked. One thing UConn has always been is smaller than most of their opponents. This is something PP has addressed in his first full recruiting class here and I think this saws everything EXCEPT typical for UConn football.

tevin shaw-Kansas with turner baty...

Anyone got an idea why Montrell Dobbs is not showing as being signed by Temple today? Both Scout and Rivals are showing this. Hopefully it's not something related to academics...again! Did he not qualify?

.-.
dobbs is at temple in class right now. i was told...

here is a interesting one for us to keep tabs on next fall. tyrique jarrett is going to milford acd.

So why wouldn't Dobbs show up as signed then? All of our guys who were early enrollers show up as signed.

Jarrett at Milford, along with PP's connections there....could give us a shot!

Could Dobbs not be on scholarship for this semester while gets his grade glitch in order and then goes on scholarship in the fall?

Tyrique jarrett is one huge dude. I saw him in person at the big 33 media day. Oh man. To steal him from Pitt would be huge. Great 3-4 nose guard. He remind me of Marc Henry from the wwe!!

Just looked him up, that is a big freaking dude. Who knows what happens a year from now. PP is set on bringing in more BIG interior DLmen, I am sure he is still on their radar.

PA produces some really good football players. Another Big 33 guy here in Jarrett. Not a bag accolade to have. Hoping PP can snag some more guys with this kind of following in future classes.

On one of the Temple boards a couple posters mentioned that they hope he qualifies. Not sure if they meant that they hope his spring semester doesn't disqualify him OR...that he gains successful admission. Certainly confusing...and not clear cut...even though the assumption was that he would be all set at Temple. Wish him well whatever the situation is!

So that's it? No FL HS prospect? PP just jumping the gun? That's a rookie mistake.

PP didn't guarantee anything. He said they were waiting on one more kid, trying to bring him in. Essentially saying it's a waiting game is what I took from his comments. They were "still in on him" so to speak. Still in the discussion and in his consideration. Whoever it may be.

Dobbs enrolled and started taking classes at Temple in January. He's not listed as signed because he doesn't have a scholarship yet. He needs to qualify in order to get the scholarship.

Thanks Kris...that all makes sense now. Hoping it all works out for him, but also wonder what happens if he doesn't qualify. Just no 'ship? ...or can't play there?

If you actually check out Dobbs' fb page he has a post thanking God.. and he mentions already taking classes at Temple

Yeah...thanks...had already seen where he was taking classes on a Temple board, but then the question was why no LOI signed? We now know why...and are wondering what happens if he doesn't qualify this spring...see earlier post.

He may have to sit out the year but that is still unknown at this point. I don't think they are concerned about him qualifying, it's a matter of when. From everything I've read, he's the jewel of an impressive recruiting class, so expectations are high. He's working hard and is eager to get out and compete.

Idk if we have covered this (don't jump down my throat for mentioning this), but is PP referring to Jordan Armstrong? We were waiting on his info for a while and it may still be a process approving his homeschooling records. PP is still trying with someone and I'm just throwing it out there.

he commited to fairmount state, couldn't bcs qualify. the part i don't get is how he got away from a ucf/fiu type.

Hey Dan...while we're on the topic of Armstrong's qualifying...do you have any info on what exactly is the difference between BCS qualifications and non-BCS? Obviously, the standards are higher for BCS schools, but isn't that, at least somewhat, determined by each conference? I think I read where the SEC allows two recruits in per year who fall below the BCS standards. But since it's a conference rule, not an individual school rule, it's perfectly alright. Correct me if I'm wrong here. But if not, it sure seems like a nice advantage for them if you ask me. But then again, I'm sure their not too hung up about academic qualifications!

Division I uses a sliding scale to qualify at the clearinghouse. The lower your GPA the higher the SAT needed. For Division II, they use the minimum requirements, 2.0 GPA and whatever they use as a low for SAT's.

Thanks HH. I'm guessing that the totals need to be higher in a BCS conference school, than a non. Like UConn vs. Temple in the Montrell Dobbs situation. He's able to qualify there, but not here because the raw scores needed to get into UConn are higher?

The requirements to be eligible to play are the same at both schools, however the admission standards may be different. Stanford seems to go through this every year with a player or two.

Alright thanks Harry. For some reason I thought a BCS conference had different standards having to be met. But I must not have understood that accurately.

Hearing rumors that UConn is involved with TJ Boges, a high school teammate of Neally Cunningham (a 2012, commit who will go JUCO for a yr).
Looks as if he enrolled at Dean JC in Mass. with Neally. Could it be that both come to UConn next year?

Though I can't find T J on the major sites, I was able to find some highlights.
