    2024 Recruiting: Tarris Reed Jr.

Sounds like more sanogo than Clingan. Ok. Let’s sign him.

How about a version of Sanogo?

He may be more athletic than people are giving him credit for. He is very good.

    2024 Recruiting: Tarris Reed Jr.

A very very good passer who has 22 career assists and 105 turnovers? What am I missing here?

    Alex Karaban hints coming back

He is a lottery pick. Here’s a fun fact since clearly you know absolutely nothing about the nba: nikola jokic leads the NBA in post ups per game. The total? 8.2 per game. That’s it that’s number. The next highest total? Not even 6, his name is Embiid. This isn’t 1985 anymore, it’s a different...

    2024 Recruiting: Tarris Reed Jr.

There is no big man in the world outside of Jokic who could look even decent w/ a bad coach and no guards. Reed has great size and close to elite feel -- sets good screens (could & will improve) and is a very, very good passer. Not a quick jumper so he's not an excellent finisher around the...

Top 5 Hype for Clingan (Givony)

Ive been hearing a lot on draftnik pods/articles that clingan is 'not good on offense'. I swear they must not be watching the games and how he impacts the offense; he is an incredible screener with great feel of when to flip screens. This is an underrated part of unlocking elite offense, see...

Fox Sports: "How Dan Hurley Fashioned UConn Into An Offensive Juggernaut"

Thanks for headsup @aceboon . Had not seen that article nor do I subscribe to The Athletic-- Just an observation on my part and it makes sense after reading your post.

Fox Sports: "How Dan Hurley Fashioned UConn Into An Offensive Juggernaut"

It's also a great way to showcase him for the league. Yeah, he's not shooting the 3s at volume yet, but he can make plays from the top of the key and in a couple years will be shooting 2-3 a game at a decent % if he keeps improving. He's developing the footwork and ability to make reads in an...

Fox Sports: "How Dan Hurley Fashioned UConn Into An Offensive Juggernaut"

Good article in The Athletic from this week about how more college offenses are making the center the playmaking hub and how much Jokic has influenced the game. Clingan said he idolizes Jokic and studies his game. “Being able to see over defenders, especially on backdoors or when teams are...

    Danny Wolf: Transfer target?

I saw him vs Princeton last weekend and was stunned when I looked him up to see he's 7' 255 lb and averaged 2 & 2 as a freshman. I assume he was either overweight or out of shape as a freshman. His skill set is impressive and a perfect fit for us. He was dribbling behind his back, changing...

Highlights v. Spanish Select Team 1

Castle makes getting to the rim look so easy. Would I get killed if I say the the play by Clingan at the :40 mark looked Jokic-like?

Highlights v. Spanish Select Team 1

That back to back sequence at 33 seconds and 40 seconds was really impressive. He's a beast.

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

How can it be a terrible comparison every year since when Clingan has only played one season?
  18. navery12

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

That's the point. Jokic's passing is insane and very unique, which is why he's an awful comp for Clingan

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

That's the whole point of what a lot of us are saying. We're not saying Clingan can't be great in the NBA. We're saying he doesn't play like Jokic. Because he's not nearly the passer, which is Jokic's greatest strength.

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

Not sure the assist numbers really matter, but get back to me when Clingan is a starter playing more than a couple minutes at a time totaling something like 13 minutes per game. I don't expect Clingan's assist numbers to improve much - he's a center. The fact Jokic's assist stats are high is...

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

...his style of play has always been the same and he's gotten a lot better. That's what typically happens with great players. The Clingan Jokic comparison is terrible when Jokic was the same age as Clingan is now and it's a terrible comparison every year since. They don't play anything like...

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

I think it’d be fair to take into consideration competition and the fact that Jokic didn’t have the Final Four MOP in front of him.

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

Alperen Sengun is little Jokic lite. I don't like comparing guys to the best but he's the only guy who is in the ballpark with his crazy moves and vision.

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

Before seeing real time how much better Clingan got this offseason, tbh I'd say his best comp is Walker Kessler but trade some defense for some offense, and with higher upside because of it Clingan could/should be better next year than Kessler was at Auburn (which is a high bar), but Kessler...

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

Then he hasn't always played like this. In fact, he's gotten better pretty much every year. Funny thing is I can't find a single post here mentioning Jokic in his first couple years (search feature here does suck though). It's a bad comparison because the only thing they really have in common...

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

Think we’ll see it more this year as the center of the offense. More than anything he’s not close to the scorer Jokic is at this point. If he can showcase an overall jumper, I think that comp looks a lot more realistic than it would watching mostly a lob catching freshman.

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

I think the upside for Clingan is huge. What he will be at the end of this year could be unimaginable. Whether or not he will be Jokic, I think there is a chance that he is the biggest story in all college basketball by March.

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

He wasn't bad at assists. He averaged 4.4 ast per 40 compared to Clingan's 1.4 per 40. At the same age as Clingan, Jokic had 4.0 ast per 40 in the Adriatic League.
  30. superjohn

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

I'm saying it's a terrible comparison because they play nothing alike. Jokic when he was in Serbia and a rookie played nothing like Clingan did his freshman season at UConn. They are totally different players in style, build, athleticism etc. It's an awful comparison.
  31. Rocktheworld

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

Clingan can’t do a single thing Jokic did in that video. Granted Clingan is like 4 inches taller, and built differently with his center of gravity way higher, so he can’t be as nimble as Jokic. I think he has longer arms and bigger hands too, so some of the over the back or around the shoulder...

Damn he must not be able to pass like that since he averaged only 2 assists his first year.

Clingan can pass, but we are aware he averaged less than 2 assists per 40 last year right?

Donovan clingan version of young nikola jokic?

To the Clingan is a young version of Jokic crowd will Clingan be jogging the ball up the court, pushing the ball up the court on fastbreaks, pirouetting constantly in the lane for 8 foot teardrops, throwing no look lobs, be the main initiator on offense the entire game, shooting one legged...
