I hate that I think this. But our best chance to avoid a long, slow decline (and being on the wrong side of the Great Schism of college sports, whatever form it takes whenever it occurs) is probably the damn Big 12 again.
Maybe they continue being aggressive and decide to add another pair of...
Personally I'd flip 4 and 5. Back in 2004–05, (1) it was at least possible to believe the Big East could turn out okay, (2) the additions created the strongest basketball conference probably ever, and (3) the Miami/VT defections allowed UConn to join up in football a year ahead of schedule. I...
You’re about to get pounded by others here, but I appreciate your coming back and owning it.
I speculated a couple pages up that maybe the Big 12 would negotiate a lower share from the new Pac refugees. Probably could’ve had UConn for even cheaper and gotten more in return.
The guy stepped in and saved their league, and they’re on the verge of crapping all over his vision anyway because they think they know better.
It’ll be interesting to see how long he stays.
Any chance the Big 12 could put its newfound leverage to some actual use, playing hardball with the would-be Pac refugees and offering them invitations at a reduced share? The conference has those schools over a barrel right now and can probably do whatever it wants, including simply adding...
Sounds to me like the one fleeting hope we have left is that Utah, or maybe ASU, hates the idea of joining the Big 12 sooooo much that they stay put where they’re more comfortable, in the Pac-whatever. Washington and Oregon deciding to stay (for now) certainly helps. Not sure it’s enough, but...
It's maddening that these jokers (and apparently Utah) need to be dragged kicking and screaming into the same lifeboat that UConn would kill for a seat in. But what can you do.
Oh boy! Or, you know, the Big 12 could match either of those schools up against another school that has as many MBB titles as the two of them put together. But only if they make the right addition to their league. Just saying.
Meh, I think mostly you just like creating threads.
So far, the most salient topic unique to this thread is whether this thread needed to be its own thread.
