But they had a home game against Duke yesterday. And they almost drew 8,000.

There are a lot of Duke alumni in Boston due to Duke's strength in the health sciences field and Boston being a huge employment market for that field.

BC's new motto: Somebody's got to lose. But Eagles loss to Wake. is a new low for Eagles.

Happy Monday;)

>>How is the BC administration and the ACC going to deal with this new milestone of ineptness at BC?

Athletic director Brad Bates, who hired both football coach Steve Addazio and basketball coach Jim Christian, is facing a situation in which his teams do not win, fans do not watch or listen or perhaps even care.

BC is a great school, with a great student body and it succeeds in many sports–most notably men’s and women’s ice hockey.

But in terms of the revenue producing sports, football and men’s basketball, BC, right now, looks overmatched.

The ACC can not be happy with a bottom feeder which has become a punch line for jokes told by the ESPN announcing crews who do the bulk of BC games.<<

But as a sage person pointed out on Twitter... The ACC revenue checks still clear the bank!

When one has to compare its basketball program to Rutgers, its not a good sign. Oh, and as a FYI -
  • Wake Forest: Rutgers lost @ home by 1, BC lost @ home by 26
  • CCSU: Rutgers won @ home by 16, BC won @ home by 25
  • UMass Lowell: Rutgers won @ home by 23, BC lost @ home by 2
  • Clemson: Rutgers lost in Vegas by 18, BC lost away by 11 & @ home TBD
Combined the schools are 13-41 and are 0-28 in conference play.

On side note, the article did confirm that BC will look to finally build an indoor football practice facility, which will sit on the current baseball field next to Alumni Stadium along with other improvements. Of course, this has not been approved by the City of Boston and I am sure the folks from Newton will also have there say. Good luck with that.

I'm thinking that after this football and basketball season the folks at Wake are saying, "thank god for BC!"

The sad part is it's baseball season. Where BC truly has no prayer of being competitive in the ACC.

BC likes to talk of their long football tradition. Back around 1978-182 era they went 0-11. Not a lot whole better than most years. Included were losses to Army, UMass +Holy Cross ( their big rival). They played in a 32k stadium with wooden seats. Only when Flutie came along did things improve. They rode that wave a long time , but the party is over. In the metro Boston area BC ranks behind the Pats, Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics, Harvard athletics, and the Boston Marathon as far as fan support/ interest.
They are being crushed by big brother --- UCONN.

Really an example of the law of unintended consequences. Eliminate from competition the one geographic rival that could have generated local interest in your own program and theirs as well, but because of your own selfishness you take your ball and go home and vanish into the oblivion.

You obviously don't understand BC. They draw nationally. There were literally hundreds of people there for that............................basketball game.

If they do, in fact, accomplish the extraordinary, we HAVE to print some good t-shirts to wear up to Chestnut Hill for Nov 19th

I don't think the Boston Globe sent a writer to the game (but did send a writer to the high school alpine skiing championships). The only evidence of it being played was in the "Sports Log" section, the section that has phrases separated by ".....". Here is the full coverage:

"....The Boston College men’s basketball team remained winless in Atlantic Coast Conference play after dropping its 15th consecutive league contest Tuesday night in a 71-56 setback against visiting Virginia Tech, which snapped a five-game skid in conference road games before a sparse Conte Forum crowd of 1,018. The Hokies (15-13, 7-8 ACC) got 14 points from Seth Allen and Justin Bibbs had 12 points and 10 rebounds. Eli Carter led the Eagles (7-21, 0-15) with 19 points and Dennis Clifford had 13 points and 12 rebounds, marking his second double-double of the season and third of his career....."
