Nice. I was hoping to get that show, but couldn’t make it. I saw him a few years ago just because J Mascis of Dinosaur Jr. was opening for him, and I ended up enjoying Kurt Vile quite a bit.

Between new and upgraded venues, and the efforts of groups like Manic Productions, there have been a lot of interesting shows passing through CT the past few years.

Love VIle going back to his time with War on Drugs. We have an annual free concert series at a couple of outdoor venues and he was part of that three years ago. Got three songs into his set and had to cancel rest of show due to lightning and heavy storms coming. He hasn't come back this way since. "Lotta Sea Lice" with Courtney Barnett is still a regular listen.

When I was in college, I think Manic was in charge of the Space venues in Hamden, but they've recently expanded out to College Street in New Haven, Power Ridge, Westville, District Music Hall and also FTC (news to me), so overall, lots of variety of venues from the independently run local production company.

Reminds me of the heyday of IHEG productions when @Letsgohuskies11 and I were frequenting countless shows in the Northampton area.

Also, as a Norwalk native, good to see the District Music Hall have regular shows. I am too young to appreciate its heyday as The Globe, but I was in high school when that venue was called The Roxy. That place was so down in the dumps, my own band from my high school/college days booked two gigs there (which felt awesome for us).

I do enjoy the North Adams area quite a bit. Mass MoCA is probably my favorite art museum in the world and there's excellent food and beautiful nature in that area.

We usually go every other year. We saw Kraftwerk there. I've always been curious about the SSF and Dove is the first person I know of who's attended.

This a very unique festival. Wilco's Solid Sound Festival.

So, my wife and I are not Wilco fans. Didn't know a single song by them. Musically, they are great, tho.

After years of hitting a big blues festival each summer, with the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival thrown in, my wife found this event and we bought tix. Stayed in Bennington, VT. A super easy 30 minute ride.

Mass MoCa is set within an old manufacturing complex. A very crazy setting for a music venue. You enter through the gift shop and then a number of stages are set in various quads of the building complex. The biggest field is where the main stage faces east.

Vendors are spread out. Lots of food options. Treehouse was the only beer on site. $14 for Haze, Julius and the Solid Sound Pale Ale. $9 for lower abv offerings that were non IPAs.

Wilco performed two nights. The first night was Deep Cuts night. Songs from long ago dug up. Great stuff. Just before their set was Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit. LOVED these guys. Another band, Horsegirl, played on a smaller stage. Very cool.

On Saturday, Wilco played all of "A Ghost is Born" and other songs. They brought the wall of sound this night. My wife didn't like it. Before Wilco, I loved seeing Nick Lowe and Los Straightjackets. They played "Cruel to be Kind", "Peace, Love and Understanding" and "I Knew The Bride...". Awesome set.

On Sunday, it was Jeff Tweedy and Friend's playing. Set started 40 minutes late as the entire facility was evacuated due to a bad stormfront rolling in from NY. A great set was played.

The crowd was great. The food was great. The venue was great. We'll be back one day.

Off site, nearby, was The freight Yard Pub. Great food here where we had two lunches before heading to the Fest.

In Bennington, good food at The 421 Craft Kitchen and Bar. great tap list, too. A brewery across the street, Madison Brewery, was good too.

A quick trip into NY saw us have an amazing lunch at Brown' Brewing in North Hoosick. The actual Battle of Bennington was fought here. Not in Vermont.
 
Now we're about to buy tix for the Podunk Bluegrass Festival in Goshen.

My favorite, the Del McCoury Band, will be there. Thank you for the extensive recap! Where did they have you park? Seems nearby would fill quickly.

I went to the Podunk once when it was at Martin Park. A tropical storm came through during the afternoon wiping out the program but they said Del was still going on @ 7 as the rain and the wind was over. There were more downed tree branches than folks watching yet the band played their full set. Maybe 50 people there. A class act.

In front of Mass MoCa were two lots. One is behind Big Y. We were lucky enought to use them three times.

If full, a huge lot was about 1/2 mile SE at the defunct Sons of Italy. Nobody parked there.

I went to Podunk when it was in Norwich for a few years. Good stuff.
 
I saw Wilco do YHF in its entirety a couple years ago for it's 20th anniversary. Was amazing. Their last few albums though have been sleepers.
 
The Umphrey McGee/moe. doubledip at Levitt Pavillion Westport this weekend will have a very high wook/sketch factor for sure!

@Dove was there two nights ago, I was at Bethel Woods last night for the Outlaw Music Festival.

Jam packed (felt like 10k more than other Bethel Woods show I went to) but Plant/Krauss were amazing as always and it was such a special treat to see Willie Nelson perform…it brought tears to my eyes. Dylan was meh.

So tonight we have what was a mistake purchase that I hope turns out to be fun. Last winter, with no decent concerts lined up for summer, I bought 4 tickets for Third Eye Blind (Yellowcard opens). Hey, I know like 3 of their songs, why not? Well it definitely didn't sell out, and I should have waited as other shows did come along.

Love you my man, but that’s a casual review. Its fine. To each their own. I saw this tour too and had tears in my eyes for knowing Willie is at his end and exhilaration for hearing Dylan being vital at 83.

On a similar topic. This is pretty cool. A group of people are making a documentary about the Watkins Glen Festival in 1973, a group that includes Jim Koplik approached one of my bands to do the soundtrack for the documentary. It is not an area I've worked in before. Because licensing songs for films is so expensive the documentary makers hired us to do it. You are not allowed to play any songs by the 3 bands (Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, The Band) otherwise it it gets open to copyright issues. So the task was to create musical "beds" that sounded like those 3 bands without it being their songs, they had to be original.
It was a challenging but in the end a really cool exercise. Like "how do I play something that sounds familiar to a listeners ear like whipping post without actually playing whipping post" "How do I play something that sounds like Life is a Carnival without playing Life is a Carnival" etc...etc,,,,

Anyway, here is a trailer of the doc with some of our musical bed backing tracks. I think it kinda worked.

That's really cool. Sounds like it would be difficult, but an enjoyable challenge. I'm surprised you couldn't just play the songs yourselves.
