Xavier Post Game Thread

Here is the clip. I think you'd have to be assuming a lot to think Hurley is inferring Reibe and his camp are complaining about playing time.

I did not infer what is being inferred by some. I’m with you.

He may just be reminding Reibe publicly how important that buy in was, I didn’t hear anything about family or him being upset.

Thanks for queuing that up. I hadn't listened to it. I don't think it's that big of reach to think he is sending a bit of a message there, but I agree it's an assumption.

I know that's been said before, but that's not really abnormal. There's more to talk about and more to argue about. Everyone saying "wow we're awesome" doesn't go very far.
It's like that in almost any forum for a particular team no matter the sport.

Nice game by everyone on the team. Not much to complain about in this game and nice to see the bench continuing to step up. The one thing that scares me is Smith. He just isn't too consistent as a backup PG. He had a good game against Providence and has followed that up with 2 stinkers. He really looks lost in the offense at times on where he should go with ball and how to get it to his teammates in good positions to do stuff. The offense really stagnates when he is in and Demary is out. Also, it was nice to see Hurley experimenting a lot in the 2nd half with different lineups when the game was a blow-out. Karaban needs as much rest as he can get.

.-.
It’s been a trend. I don’t get it. Seems like the students just aren’t that into UConn basketball like they used to be. I could make excuses about he cold weather or playing teams we are expected to beat but that wouldn’t have stopped them in the past. 22-1. 12-0. #3 in the country. Smh
Also noticed Hurley has stopped asking the crowd to get into it more.
I think he’s accepted that at least for now, the Kansas ,BYU Duke type crowd energy ain’t happening.
That's sad. I was at games in Gampel, Hartford, and Maui in 2023-2025 where he and Alex were asking the crowd to get into. Me and my wife would implore the fans around us to get into it more and some of them did and some didn't. I wish the fans were louder and more raucous like they were in the 90s and early 2000s or hell like in the Villanova game in 2022 when Hurley got kicked out of the game in the first half.

Impressive all-around performance and nice to get a second consecutive decisive win. I like that the team is finally hitting stride and beginning to click on all cylinders going into Friday to face the Red Storm at MSG.

Richard Pitino is a smart and skilled coach, and a humble, likeable guy with a sense of humor too. (Very much unlike Todd Golden.) I think he'll probably have Xavier back into the upper tier of the conference and worthy of a post season bid, possibly by next season.

He was so dominate early I was starting to wonder at what point does he become our best player? Seems we are not quite there yet but it feels like it is coming. Not sure why he sat so much in the first half. Wish Hurley played him more.
Shhhh. Danny's keeping him a secret.

.-.
Stewart is an anomaly. He’s good enough to start on this team and certainly good enough to start on 98% of other teams in Div I. Thought he was in for a good game based on his start but was throwing up prayers on his last few shot attempts/layups.

Obviously nitpicking here and it really doesn’t matter in a game where we blew the opponents doors off. I’m wishing the kid nothing but the best. I’m just absolutely shocked at how the season has gone for him. Not really any progress from last season whatsoever.

Whatever, keep rolling!

Its February and this is our team!

Hmm. KP Offensive efficiency ratings go up when we run good offense and make the shots. Make it make sense. It’s almost like the analytics measure important things.

Yet, we're the same team with the same players and the same rotation and the same system

Maybe being a Monday Morning QB doesn't impress everyone

I know it matters to the selection committee, so there's that

What the analytics were saying was that playing like we were two games ago we couldn't win a national championship. And that is true: if we played like we played against Providence or Villanova, we'd be knocked out in the second round.

The eye test told me that

We ran plenty of good sets over the course of the season. The shots are just finally falling. But you can’t tell me two games ago we couldn’t win a natty and now we can all of a sudden, which is what the analytics say.
Where are you getting the idea that the analytics say anything about what you "can" or "can't" do? People love to do the thing where they go "only teams ranked like this are contenders" but it's not like there's some magical force that makes it true.

I don't know what they were looking at. It didn't look like a flagrant foul on Smith, but if you're going to call it on Smith why didn't the Xavier player get a flagrant as well, hitting Smith in the face and drawing blood. Just a bizarre call all around. If it was hockey it would be a 4 minute minor on the Xavier player.
I looked at the replay and the X player seemed to swipe down to reach for the ball which was clearly off him and caught Malachi's nose. It looked accidental but Malachi reacted with some kind of a push and the X payer reacted and ended up on the deck and Malachi went to the bench with a bloody nose. Should have been a no call.

Not much to be upset about, other than the ridiculous flagrant call and the even more ridiculous people defending it.
Yeah, insane. Malachi's actions were entirely in self defense and he still got smacked in the face.
