Xavier Post Game Thread

Let’s just say you needed to watch the game before that hot take.
It's not a hot take, if you're convinced he's a key cog player that you can win a championship with prior to this game...I disagree. He needs to play better defense, pass better, shoot the three with a dagger mindset, etc. This player has at least 5 airballs this season...

Long story short, someone in this thread mentioned the Solo haters. My point was that you can root for a player while still understanding it's going to take more than him being a glass cannon.

Good game from him? Ok. Track record? He's a 3rd year in this program, he should stack more games like this if it was a multi-faceted effort from him. No one is a hater vs him....just saying he hasn't been a consistent winning player.

Demary Jr.
Ball
Mullins
Karaban
Reed Jr.

Smith
Ross
Stewart
Reibe

This 9-man rotation is going to make history and win titles. Fully healthy and firing at the right time they will be a problem for everyone.

Not as dominant, so far, as the all-time great five of Tristen, Cam, Steph, Alex, Donovan in 2024. With Hassan and Samson, probably the best duo off the bench in the country, plus freshman Jaylin Stewart.

Can the legit 9-man rotation grow to be bulletproof is my question.

Silas — Tristen
Solo — Cam
Mullins — Castle
Karaban — Karaban
Reed jr. — Clingan

Malachi — Hassan
Reibe — Samson
Stewart — Stewart
Ross — n/a

I hope the 9-man rotation lasts because all 9 contributors are too good not to be utilized and all the pieces fit masterfully.

Last game I will miss while traveling to Philippines for 3 weeks. I will be back early Sunday morning to see the Marquette game later that day. Great win and a nice birthday present to me for January 1st. I will have to watch the game when posted. I'm excited ro see how the team is growing. Happy New Years ro all Husky Nation from Philippines 🇵🇭.
you need to plan your vacations better

Usually I don't pay attention to player comparisons because each player is unique.
But...
for those with a deep memory, Braylon Mullins = Jerry West.

Happy new year! Great to walk out of Cintas with a win, especially when the game was essentially over after…7-8 minutes?

Karaban was incredibly efficient. He’s so locked into the flow of the offense, it’s great to see

I think Solo had a great game too. Still cold on his threes but showed a strong overall scoring package. My two favorite parts of the game was him shushing the crowd after hitting a three and of course the monster block into and1

Sheesh Braylon. Kid can SHOOT! I don’t think there’s a shot on the court he doesn’t love, and I don’t think there’s a shot that I don’t love him taking. He’s also a really good rebounder, great instinct for a freshman and he has hops to go get the ball

Didn’t love the PG play from either Silas or Malachi, but definitely think Silas took a step forward. His box score doesn’t look great but it excludes an early layup where he got clobbered and should have been at the line, and excludes an and1 layup that got waved off. Focusing on behaviors instead of box scores with him, and the behaviors were better

Great start to BE play! Three absolute blowouts

This roster is an absolute arsenal. Just a question for anyone else who was confused by what seemed to be a no reason whistle: see attached play-by-play screen shot. What the heck happened at 11:41? The play was live (UConn ball), the refs blew the whistle, no call was described, under 12 TV timeout occurred, game resumed with Xavier in possession. No turnover recorded in the play-by-play. What was that??
nethack malevolent force?

11:41 was a kicked ball on Xavier. Went to the 12 minute TO, UConn got the ball back after. Result of the possession was Malachi traveling at 11:27

Every team except for a few are overmatched against us this season. And I wouldn't be at all surprised if those few look overmatched against us if we meet up in March.

Xavier is bad but they had no trouble with West Virginia and Cincinnati.
To be fair, Cincinnati is putting together an all-time stinker of an offensive performance this season. Any team that can score halfway decently is gonna beat them.

Great game and a serious glimpse into what the ceiling for this team could be. My only thing would be that Coach needs to have a practice dedicated to inbounding the ball. That five-second call didn't end up biting them today but could be something that impacts a game when it matters and was not the first time this season they've struggled with it.

Did I miss something? I didn’t see him miss too many tonight.
I thought that this was perhaps the best all around performance from Solo in a Husky uniform. Complete Game and nearly perfect IMO.
He missed 4 of 6 and is now at 30% which is improving but not the 42% guy of last year. And I did say he was good in every other way, not sure how you missed that lol. Wow nice reply.

Ball had a very good game. Solid on both ends. Tough to criticize them at all but I don’t like the number of turnovers that just look sloppy. They certainly are one of the better teams in the country.

Ok, let's break this down. Solo was brought in as a shooter from the get go and he is being told to shoot the ball as all good shooters should. As for the air balls (5), really, that's a problem? Air balls happen especially when you are a focal point on offense. Braylen must also have a better mind set, since he chucks up a few air balls too? Solo has shown that he is a winner, he has made many onion shots in the last 3 years. His defense is getting much better. That block last night and taking it in for a layup was just one example of his improvement in that category. "just saying he hasn't been a consistent winning player." Is just mind boggling. We need Solo because he adds another outside threat in an already potent 3pt shooting team. That creates so many options once you get that going. Solo also has added the slashing portion to his game that is that much more dangerous to guard. I don't know what your smoking? But really, cut back.

I asked if I missed something.

Maybe I did because I was more focused on Solo playing the the best all around game I’ve seen him play on offense and defense -made me overlook what I would call a bit of nitpicking. One of those shots falls in and he’s 3/6. I just don’t see a “there” there on this one but that’s just me.

Silas' biggest challenge is staying on the court.

Good comparison.

Left unguarded I have never seen a player more lethal - he is sharpshooter with the smoothness of MJ on that shot.

As he keeps learning how to get open you will see this high score totals go up and up. He is going to wake up Div 1 basketball with a “wow say what” performance this month.

Mullins had a very nice all around game. He had 6 rebounds and 4 assists. We will need him to rebound to reach our potential. He is starting to play like he is 6-6. And there is plenty of room to the upside.
he had 6 yesterday and also played good defensively, jumping the passing lane a few times

And for Braylon’s airballs… I don’t care as he hit 50% 3’s (5-10) which is Camtastic.

Sort of like golf where it matters little how you get the ball on the green…ultimately results matter.
