Also saw this posted on College Sports 4Chan (CSNBBS).

2024: 968
2025: Projected 800 but only 638 enrolled


Maybe someone has Intel on how the others are doing.

This is why I am so heavily skeptical about an ACC merge. Why would they hitch their wagons to something that is clearly withering away? The ACC would only take 3-4 programs.

I agree. UConn is the obvious one. The other choices are Villanova, Georgetown, St John, Creighton and Marquette. And of course Providence. Just kidding.

I don't know, Providence has as good as chance as anyone.

(Actually, I struggle to envision the non-football playing schools meaningfully participating in the ACC. The only opportunity I see is the fact that the ACC could likely afford to pay them a nominal amount which would still exceed what they get in the big east. The question is whether the media partners would be willing to pay for that, plus an additional amount to make every other school money. I'm not sure that "the math maths" on that.)

No they don’t. It’s going to be like pushing a boulder uphill for the tiny private Catholics.
 
Looks like they are trying to raise $500 million for expansion and open a medical school so looks like they are aware of the issue. Do they have any big money donors?

Xavier has significant financial issues. Hired McKinsey to assist on reorganization. Main recommendation was to cut costs and increase tuition. Genius recommendations! Way to waste $2 million on a report (typical fees) Lol. Fitch downgraded their credit rating to negative. If I am Rick Pitino, I would be buying credit insurance to guarantee the payment of my salary. This could have been one of the reasons Sean Miller left. He could see the writing on the wall.

I would say that the days are numbered at Xavier. I mean if their freshman enrollment was in the 600s then it's probably over.
 
Xavier could very well be in trouble, but this trend of bashing the league is getting old. The other 10 schools all have decent enrollments and are solid financial shape. For example, Butler actually welcomed its largest freshmen class in almost a decade this fall.

Not sure anybody bashing the league. Just pointing out one member who is in financial trouble. Just like many other private colleges in other conferences.

I’m not sure what standing around and pretending that everything is ok accomplishes. Surely it someone thought the Big East was in great shape they wouldn’t start a thread about how to fix each school.

DePaul is in trouble too. Overall enrollment is declining. International Student #s are cratering.

Doubt this ever happens, but for giggles, I could see the ACC only interested in large city schools, Georgetown, St. John’s, Nova and maybe DePaul for Chicago, but I’d give up Chicago to the B10. Based on rule #1 we are out.
 
It's not just the Big East Catholic schools that are having enrollment problems. There is a shrinking college-age population. The HBCU schools are in deep trouble. The Pennsylvania state college system (10 schools) is consolidating and closing campuses. People are questioning the value of a bachelor's degree vs. tech school training leading to sometimes greater salaries in the trades. The current political climate is making enrollment in U.S. universities less desirable and more difficult for foreign students. Universities with access to higher degrees and research are apparently doing okay.

Which hurts Catholic schools which concentrate on undergraduate studies and do not have large graduate studies or research.

It isn't just, but it seems that high dollar small private institutions are struggling and it just so happens that the Big East is chock full of those.

Applications to Xavier have surged over the past decade, up 60% (due to the common app), but the yield of accepted students has plummeted by about half. Oddly, SAT scores have gone up over time. Acceptance rates are in the high 80s, so they need to figure out how to improve their yield. Cincinnati, a direct competitor, has grown enrollment as they have increased their acceptance rate to the high 80%. And I would assume their addition to the Big 12 has increased their appeal to students.
