Two or three times a season, UConn will be on the verge of a huge victory, only to have someone - whether it be the officials, an opposing player, or a UConn player - deliver a devastating kick to the nuts to the whole fan base. We all know what these games feel like as sports fans - a sense of euthoria can turn into devastation so quickly. Just think back to last night, as Boatright hits the jump shot that should have sealed the victory, only to have Cadougan race back down the court and send the game into overtime. I went from a place of joy and triumph to anger and disappointment, literally in the span of ten seconds.
So I started thinking - which regular season losses in the last five years have been the most devastating as a fan? Upon brain-storming, I realize UConn has had quite a few excrusiating regular season losses over the last few years. I guess though, when you're an elite program, and constantly bidding for victories over good to great teams, this type of thing is bound to happen sometimes.
Off the top of my head, these are the ten worst regular season losses I recall since the 2007-8 season:
1. Last season against Cuse, in Gampel
2. Kemba's senior day against Notre Dame right before the eleven game postseason run
3. 2011 double overtime loss to Louisville
4. @ Syracuse 2010 (screwed by the refs)
5. Home loss vs. Louisville 2010 (This was the loss that sent the 2010 team on a downward spiral - remember, they had just defeated Villanova and West Virginia, both top ten teams)
6. Loss vs. Kentucky at MSG at the begginning of the 2009-10 season
7. Loss @ Georgetown, 2008-9 (the Hibbert three)
8. Loss @ Georgetown, 2010 (Blew like a 20 point lead - jeez 2010 was just a brutal year that could have gone completely different with a couple shots going the other way)
9. Vs. Pitt 2009
10. Last night
Did I miss any?
