Wordle Discussion Daily Spoilers

I was expected to see some fails here. I lucked out. Next up for me were bound, pound and mound. Didn't think of wound right away because of the different vowel sound.

That moment on line 3 when you realize there are at least 4 correct answers and you've only got three more guesses.

Now 43-1. First loss.

At least you had eliminated pound, round and hound. I think I had six words left with 3 guesses and just lucked out.

The generally accepted practice is that you have to use the letters (and positions) that were identified in your previous guesses, on subsequent guesses.

So you get to a situation, described above, where you have more letters that could create a word then you have guesses left. (call them guess letters) Would it be cheating if only in this case, you disregard the letters previously identified, and try a word that has as many of the guess letters as possible ?

When I’ve been in the position, where there are more letters than guesses, I‘ve “thrown“ away a turn using a word that uses as many of the potential letters as possible.

I don't think it's cheating; there is a mode that will force you to play that way if you want. Otherwise it's up to you. I don't do it simply because I don't want to burn a turn, and I'm not afraid of failing to solve it on any given day.

I have used both. The only "fail" that I've had was because I had "hard mode" turned on and it handcuffed me with word choices. I then turned it off and police myself on reusing grey letters.

I made the decision that proving that I am linguistically more intelligent than others is not the reason I play, because I surely won't accomplish that. I play solely to win the game.

BTW, After my one fail, I discovered that one can turn hard mode off and/or on while in the middle of a game. (ICDK)

As far as cheating goes, I believe there are only three methods.
  1. Getting help from others
  2. Seeking out the answer already published online (even here)
  3. Seeking out 5 letter words online that include such & such letters.
And if we do any of these we are really only cheating ourselves; and that is the worst kind of cheating.

I'm glad I found this little group. Cheers all. :)

That could work, certainly. In my case today, had I plugged in "walks" in line 5, I'd only have the "f" left and I'd get it in 6. But I'm kinda like 8893 in that I'll only burn a line if I've only got one letter and haven't hit its location after two tries.

@JavaMan - Do you do Quordle? I'm only 78-13 over there including practice games. Much harder game, IMHO.

No. Don't even know what it is. Guess I'll have to go and look.

The only other daily online brain exercise I do is a 9X9 Jigsaw Sudoku. Here's a link if anyone is interested:
Scroll down till you get to the gameboard with blanks and have at it! I don't submit anything, I just want to beat the one daily game. (I usually do)
tip 1: Ctrl Z is your friend
tip 2: You can also download and print and then play using a pencil with an eraser...or if your brave, use a pen. ;)

Luck is good. I probably would've gone scalp as I generally don't go double letter until only obscure single letter words left.
Hmmm, if I had thought of scalp I might well have used it; good option. I didn't even think of SMALL until I saw yours. I definitely would have used that before SHALL. After last night's multiple near heart attacks, I just wanted to move quickly and minimize any further stress.

I did a lousy job too. Sometimes I'm anticipating a repeat letter, sometimes I'm not.

Ok guys, for any football fans here is another game. Read the rules.

For true fans. I couldn't even name receivers for the Steelers w/o looking it up. I had no idea who Pittman was, other than i needed a WR out of AFC Central so picked him out of a stat list. So book me for a 6.

I'd probably be decent at a baseball version though.

People who play fantasy a shot but some are hard.

You're in luck

You're in luck

That's actually pretty hard. I blew two guesses because I'm pretty familiar with FA movement and went with current team instead of where they were last year.

Got it in 6 anyway, but was a lucky, lucky guess, as didn't have team or position yet.
