There have always been some ugly games, I suppose, but I haven't had to watch too many of them. A few years back, UCSB was my prime "go-to" as their scores would come in relatively late and were often putrid. Other teams have taken their place.I'm watching Washington against San Fransisco. I might not make it to the end of the game. Tied at 19 at halftime. Both teams have 12 TOs. USF shooting 23%, UW 32%. Dawgs o-fer behind the arc while the Dons have made 3. This is some of the ugliest basketball I've ever seen. Looks like attendance of about 100 people. Can't blame anyone for not wanting to pay to watch this.
More to comeUgh. I am kicking myself. I was planning on watching the WNIT games and it appears that I have missed some decent games so far
Entertaining game in Albuquerque. Any Lobo fans know why the La Duff twins are not playing?
Maybe there's more to this story, but that has to be a big disappointment for their teammates. This isn't like NFL draft prospects skipping their teams' bowl games (which I happen to think is pretty lame).![]()
UNM's Duff twins opt out of WNIT
LaTora Duff, left, and her twin sister LaTascya Duff, seen during a Senior Day ceremony in 2022, opted out of the UNM women's basketball team's postseason WNIT run on Thursday.www.abqjournal.com

How do they choose where this game was played? If it was Kansas St, it would have been in Eugene due to travel locations. Also a brief side note off topic: What do you know about a Sara Barhoum of Clackamas who just had an Oregon visit. I know she is a team mate of Jazzy DavidsonWashington wins again. Beat Kansas St. When you can shoot 1-20 behind the arc and still win...you take it. Dawgs will be hosting their 4th WNIT game against Oregon on Sunday. At least the Pac 12 will get a team in the Final 4 in one post season tournament this year.![]()
Schools bid on hosting. The deeper in the tourney, the more substantial the bids are. When Arizona won and hosted all 6 games a few years back, a couple times the bid was very competitive, in one case Arizona got it by adding concession revenue to the guarantee. How do they choose where this game was played? Oregon is playing well right now. Too bad they had that long lull in the seasonIve been able to catch some WNIT games and the 8 left standing are playing good. I will say that Florida and Oregon have been the most impressive thus far and for very much the same reason.
Florida has everyone healthy finally and with Correa and Merritt back the teams looks completely different. Same for Oregon getting Van Slooten back.
Florida has BG next which has looked good as well.
Harvard has been impressive but they will have to play Columbia, which beat Syracuse, for a 4th time. Harvard has some good players.
So we have:
Oregon vs Washington
Kansas vs Arkansas
Harvard vs Columbia
Bowling Green vs Florida.
As I posted above, the WNIT is a for profit tournament. Teams are placed in the bracket regionally to limit travel until the later rounds. We got 3 out of 4…
Washington over Oregon
Columbia over Harvard (in a great game)
Kansas over Arkansas.
Florida vs Bowling Green Monday night.
I wish I knew the rationale for how that chose the home team?
Clarification. The NCAA will be forming another postseason tournament not taking over the WNIT. Their action as previously indicated will most likely eliminate or cause the WNIT to go out of business. As I posted above, the WNIT is a for profit tournament. Teams are placed in the bracket regionally to limit travel
Word is that the NCAA will be taking over the tournament and reducing the size of the field - however, teams will no longer have to bid, but I have no idea how they will do
It will be interesting if the WNIT does continue to try to offer these opportunities in the postseason in the face of the power of the NCAA. I would expect the power of the NCAA will be too great for the WNIT to continue to offer these postseason experiences for WBB players and fans."think they would claim the change from something that costs you money vs. something you will earn money from offsets the reduction in number of teams"
I'd love to watch NCAA officials make this claim to the basketball players and fans who will no longer get to engage in postseason WBB. While you may be right I would guess there's no one with the kind of courage in the NCAA to publicly make this kind of inane and insulting claim to the basketball community. While the NCAA is a very effective monopolist the officials who comprise that organization lack any semblance of courage or morality.
I suspect we would agree that the NCAA is pursuing their efforts to monopolize the collegiate athletic experience.
We would further, I suspect, agree that the monopolist benefits their organization in this case the NCAA and neither the consumer (fans) nor the employees(players) in that market. After all this monopolist opposed NIL, transfer and other compensation to athletes resulting in the current chaos.
I'm not sure there's a conundrum as those athletes who in the current WNIT world get to perform in the postseason and fans who have the opportunity to enjoy this performance will lose these opportunities after the elimination of the WNIT by the NCAA monopoly results in a 50% reduction in their opportunity to continue a postseason experience. Monopolists always seek to restrict output in order to maximize their profit.
It will be interesting if the WNIT does continue to try to offer these opportunities in the postseason in the face of the power of the NCAA. I would expect the power of the NCAA will be too great for the WNIT to continue to offer these postseason experiences for WBB players and fans.
