I have a question - why does the women’s NIT have 64 teams but the men’s NIT only has 32 teams? Thank you!

There are 64 teams; 32 automatic qualifiers and 32 at large

Thanks, Nan. Do you know why the men’s side doesn’t also go with 64 teams?
The Men's NIT is run by the NCAA. Teams get a payout (nowhere near as high as the Big Dance).

The Women's WNIT is a for profit venture. Teams pay for the privilege of participating and hosting.

Note that, in the future, the NCAA is going to take over the WNIT and most likely cut the field down to 32 teams, because, you know, equity and all that.

The WNIT has some pretty Must See teams. I will try my best to tune in and watch as many of these games as possible. Ball State, UMass, Long Beach State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, UTEP, and Northern Iowa are just a few names of interest. Oregon my other favorite team that watch as much as I can are in. The WNIT is always good to watch, when a person can.

High Point from the Big South ventures down to SC to face Clemson from the ACC. Throw out the record books and call PETA when a Panther fights a Tiger.

Oregon gets a #1 seed and will host North Dakota State at MKA in the first round. Quite an opportunity. Just keep winning at home and they can play all the way to the title game. Last year South Dakota State did just that… 4 straight in Brookings and a home win over Seton Hall

The fan base there would be a huge home court advantage.

The first round game in the Pit matching the wandering Lobos against The Lumberjacks maybe the best first round game.

Clarification....NCAA will be putting WNIT out of business.

"A women’s NIT does currently exist, but it’s run by an outside company. The NCAA’s event will be similar, but will not be called the “WNIT.”

Wonder if there's any chance the WNIT can survive this and continue on.

And actually the NCAA will be reducing women's opportunities if in fact they put the WNIT out of business and end up with a field half the size.

Washington is hosting San Francisco in the first round. Ioanna Krimili is a nice player for the Dons who has been their seemingly forever.

I agree with your last point. But I think they would claim the change from something that costs you money vs. something you will earn money from offsets the reduction in number of teams.

I don't have an answer for the conundrum.

I'd love to watch NCAA officials make this claim to the basketball players and fans who will no longer get to engage in postseason WBB. While you may be right I would guess there's no one with the kind of courage in the NCAA to publicly make this kind of inane and insulting claim to the basketball community. While the NCAA is a very effective monopolist the officials who comprise that organization lack any semblance of courage or morality.

I suspect we would agree that the NCAA is pursuing their efforts to monopolize the collegiate athletic experience.

We would further, I suspect, agree that the monopolist benefits their organization in this case the NCAA and neither the consumer (fans) nor the employees(players) in that market. After all this monopolist opposed NIL, transfer and other compensation to athletes resulting in the current chaos.

I'm not sure there's a conundrum as those athletes who in the current WNIT world get to perform in the postseason and fans who have the opportunity to enjoy this performance will lose these opportunities after the elimination of the WNIT by the NCAA monopoly results in a 50% reduction in their opportunity to continue a postseason experience. Monopolists always seek to restrict output in order to maximize their profit.

It will be interesting if the WNIT does continue to try to offer these opportunities in the postseason in the face of the power of the NCAA. I would expect the power of the NCAA will be too great for the WNIT to continue to offer these postseason experiences for WBB players and fans.

I know so little about most of the participants, I just pull against all P-6 teams.

Of course, I'll pull against Clemson but I like the play of their freshman guard Ruby Whitehorn
