WNBA Thread - Post Olympics

Here's a stat. Russell, Talbot and Prince are a perfect 12-12 shooting and have 12, 8 and 8 points.

Not sure why KLS only played 13 minutes, all in the first and third quarters. This was nice, especially to go by SDS.
7pts, 3reb, and an assist.

Nice to see the Storm actually play with some urgency. Granted they almost gave the game away in the 4th quarter. Important win as it gives them the 4th seed and a first round bye. Loyd looked utterly superhuman in the first quarter. Glad others stepped up once Loyd became a little less superhuman. Hopefully we get Stewart back otherwise we’re going to need Loyd to continue getting 37 points to even get out of the elimination game.

It is one of those interesting WNBA coaching decisions - play a starter for a few minutes at the start of each half and then forget about them for the rest of the game. KLS ended up with the highest +/- on the team but wasn't good enough to play the last 14 minutes in the first half and the last 13 minutes in the second.

Talbot was very good in the first half, not as impactful in the 2nd half. +/- can be misleading. KLS was invisible in the first half. Had a nice beginning to Q3, then not much of an impact again.

Well Seattle tried real hard to give that one away.

Phoenix can't be feeling great. After their hot streak, lost to the Sun, then were getting blown out by a Stewie-less Seattle until a late rally. If they lose to Las Vegas in the regular season finale, gonna have to say they are pretenders, not an actual Championship contending team. Yeah Taurasi has been out, but she's been out a lot. Griner and SDS have both been among the best players in the league down the stretch.

I would say Bird left her shot in Tokyo, but she didn't really have it there either. I can't remember a stretch during her entire career when she's missed so many open 3's. So used to her hitting those back breaking shots, and she's just not hitting them at all.

I agree with 1st half but Lou was getting her rhythm in second half and just pulled. Pure 17 ft curl, then the razzle dazzle on on of the best defenders in the league and then a pure 3pt shot. Talbot was definitely more dynamic in terms of pace and can shoot lights out but she also does some stupid plays as well (although Lou did try that reverse layup of BG which did not end well) Good for Lou that she has to compete for minutes. Make her sharper and more aggressive

I watched the first quarter and the second half and then studied the stat sheet. At the end of the day, I think Quinn got what she needed out her small forward position: 15 points (on 6-8 shooting), three 3-pointers, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. It just happened to come from two players: KLS and Talbot. Ms. Talbot was playing aggressively last night and had 5 of those assists. Timewise, could flip-flop next time.

Phoenix has a losing record against the top 4 teams in the WNBA. That ten winning streak they came against teams that don't have winning records and they went 6-0 against Atlanta and Indiana in that streak.

DeWanna Bonner only played 2 minutes? Did she suffer some injury?

I didn't see the game but read a tweet that she limped off the court.
That's too bad, hopefully it's not a serious injury. Makes it fortuitous that A. Thomas is back.

Phoenix started out 8-11 behind the arc. Cooling off now, 9-15. They only have 2 FG inside the arc. That's kind of insane.

Merc are +24 behind the arc, but only leading by 4 at the half. I'm gonna go way out on a limb and say they aren't going to hit 10 more 3's in the 2nd half.

They also somehow have more FTA than the Aces, despite hoisting almost 3 times as many 3's. Not sure how they are drawing fouls when almost all of their shots are from long distance.

Lynx were cruising up 12 but over last few minutes, have forgotten how to play basketball. Lynx lead down to 5 (38-33) with 4 minutes left in 2Q. Rooting for Liberty to limp into the playoffs.:oops:

Strange game, result doesn't matter at all. Most of the starters are getting some rest, some weird lineups on the floor. Phoenix has cooled off behind the arc, but still controlled most of the game. Aces grabbed a 1 point lead very briefly. Merc were up 8, but Plum has scored the last 13 pts for the Aces and they now have a chance to take the lead w/ 34 seconds left.

Plum w/ a couple tough shots that rimmed out, but Young w/ a put back w/ 4 sec. left gives them the lead.

Park w/ a big swat to preserve the win.

For a game that didn't matter and extended minutes for both benches, that was an entertaining finish.

Mercury screwed the pooch. Hartley had a chance for a game winner (I think before the buzzer) but fell short. And why was Griner sitting at the end?

To me on the replay it looks like it wouldn't have been in time.

And the Lynx look bad down the stretch too. May choke it up as well

Well, Mystics eliminated and deservedly so. Too teams playing poorly down the stretch but the Mystics were just a little poorer.

Now, need to root for Dallas over LA.

They didn't. Win by 6.
Now it gets down to Sparks vs. Wings. Will Vickie Johnson get Harrison back in game-ready shape (she's available)? Or will she put the pedal on or take it off? Stay tuned.

Some good news for Phoenix is that SDS was back in form. 17 pts and 7 assists, didn't play much in the 2nd half. Vegas had no answer for her. Got really good contributions from Cunningham, Vaughn and Hartley off the bench.
