WNBA Thread - Post Olympics

It's not like they were winning games w/ Charles.

So why bother mentioning their playoff hopes? If they can't win with her they're sure not going to win much without her. For them to play competitively in the playoffs they need Tina and DD not just one or the other.

I hadn't realized Blake Dietrick is still in the league. That's two Princeton alumnae in the W.
Think she just signed with Atlanta too. Wishing her the best for the balance of the season.

Not a good game for Arike haters. She had 25 shooting 50% from the floor and dished 9 assists, while her team won. Have to look pretty hard to find a negative spin for this one.
Yeah a real win for the ages. They just barely beat the 11th place team that had no Charles, no Meesseman, and Delle Donne only played like 12 minutes. Somebody knock me over with a feather.

Pheesa and Crystal need to step up their games .

Souhan: Lynx need their Huskies to have more bite in home stretch - StarTribune.com

Reeve said Collier hasn't been efficient offensively since returning from the Olympics and that she's "pressuring her, so to speak,'' to play like a star.

"No question, I've been on Phee,'' Reeve said. "Your best players have to play like stars. ... I want her to understand that that is necessary for our overall ability to reach the heights that we think this team can reach.''

Crystal needs to be more consistent in the role suiting her perfectly as an offensive energy weapon backup/

'Dangerfield as a fourth-quarter microwave is a fascinating weapon. Imagine spending three quarters bumping shoulders with Clarendon, and then having to try to keep the quick Dangerfield out of the paint in the fourth'

Dallas had two starters out with injuries too in Gray and Sabally. Take the victories as you can get them.

The real hero for Dallas was Isabelle Harrison, who had a brutally efficient 21 and 10 against WAS’s decimated front court.

Moriah also had a very solid game. Efficient though low-volume shooting and a whopping 7 rebounds. Above all I’m happy to see her minutes increasing and performances improving.

Must be We Luv Lou day on twitter.
This guy diagrams the play, with arrows.
Bird to Stewie, to Loyd...then watch Bird and Stewie set a screen. Lou goes through the Bird/Stewie screen, gets the pass from Loyd, loses Phee and gets the curl for the lay up. No And 1?

No And 1?
Bird got completely clobbered by Fowles on a drive early in the game as well. Refs were definitely swallowing the whistle for the Storm to start the game. These were just blatantly obvious, can't miss it fouls.

Liberty combining poor shooting, crap defense, decision making and foul trouble 31-16, Imagine if BG were playing

Liberty would've been okay if the score only got counted in Q2 and Q3. Couldn't make up big deficits in Q1 and Q4.

I'm a little behind, but wow Q1 of Seattle vs. Chicago was ugly. Brick city for both teams. Is it my imagination or does the Storm start slow every game? And sorry @baggerbob but I don't think it's Mercedes Russell's fault.

I'm caught up now. Q2 was equally ugly. 32-28 at the half. Chicago has 12 TOs and only shooting 31%, yet somehow right in the game.

New York fans must be disappointed for this season. Laney is their best player but not so inconsistent. And Sabrina is not as good as advertised, keep shooting a lot of three with inefficient number. They may need another foundation player for the team.

Both teams finally got some offensive flow going in the third quarter. Storm looked on the verge of pulling away, but Chicago got back in it again.

Seattle about to mess around and lose this game.

Another subpar game from the Big 3 and getting nothing from KLS/Talbot.

They have shut down Quigley but are getting torched by Copper. Nice game for Dolson too.

Somethin' ain't right w/ the Storm. Led almost the whole way but fell apart at the end. Sky steal one, in a game where they didn't play very well. Copper w/ I believe a career high 26, by far the best player on the floor tonight.

Was something up w/ KLS? She only played 14 minutes, barely played in the 2nd half. Talbot w/ uncharacteristically poor shooting, but she stayed on the floor.

It seems like it's the top 4 teams and then everybody else, but lo and behold Phoenix is only 1/2 game behind Minnesota.

The "Swag Sisters" - DT and Skylar - were retuned in Tokyo and are in sync in this stretch of the WNBA.
  • Seemed whenever Liberty got close, DT would hit a 3-pt. bomb. She was 5-13 from three, but the ones she hit were of those critical variety. And she also had 7 rebounds.
  • Diggins-Smith was 2-4 from three, 11-11 (!) from the FT line, had 7 assists and 4 steals and a +18 in 35 minutes against the Liberty. Fine game. Was Sabrina taking note of Sky and DT?

Withouut Ms. Griner, BreezyBri Turner and Kia Vaughn did enough up front: Kia had 11 rebounds and Turner scored 12 (6-9 shooting) and chipped in 7 boards.

Not a whole lot of depth here tonight beyond those 4 but Cunningham, Nurse and Smith seem to take turns getting 20 minutes to keep the Mercury in orbit.

Basically the guards, and small forwards gave Seattle nothing. The 2 Center's, and Stewie scored 37 points, Cooper almost outscored the guards, and small forwards on Seattle by herself. They should have signed Mack to back up Russell, and let Stewie slide to small forward a bit.

That's kinda shortchanging Loyd. She was 2nd in scoring w/ 12. Stewie had 18, Russell 11, Ezi 8. Also Bird had 8 and Canada 6. You can really just narrow it down to the 3 spot, that's what really killed them. KLS scoreless on only 2 shot attempts and Talbot 4 points on 2-9. Combined for 4 points in 37 minutes.

Why are the Sparks able to hang w/ the Sun? Doing it for the second game in a row.

Mystics without Charles and EDD for this game.

Aces rolled the Fever this morning.

That's why they should have picked up a backup center to let Ezi play some 4 with Stewie at the 3. Stewie wouldn't allow Cooper to score 26, because she would have to guard Stewie, and would get warn out on defense.

Nneka just picked up her 3rd early in 2Q. That should put a fork in them.
