They're gonna give it to Arike. They made that clear when they gave her the monthly award after she went 2-for-23. All they're looking at is scoring average. They don't care if she's jacking up 30 shots a game to do it.

Nah, Collier is gonna take it easily. They just didn't want to give her all the monthly awards.

Brown has been impressive for the sparks, in the minutes she’s gotten, she could be there starting center in the future, and should make the all rookie team.

Can't find a method of getting rookie stats on the WNBA website. Used to be there, but seems to have been dropped. Am I missing something?

This appears to be an above average year in the WNBA for rookie performances. In addition to the three rookies listed in the poll Asia Sure is having a above-average season I'm wondering the last time the WNBA had three or four rookies performing at this level?

Asia Sure sounds better than Asia Durr.
I definitely think Asia was playing well before her Hamstring Issues. I expect her to make a push in the second half of the season.

I screen captured WNBA's Rookie stats for players with 10 or more games played (see image below). As of 07-29-2019 for each stat category I sorted by 1st (yellow), 2nd (blue) and 3rd (green). Visually it appears it's between Collier and Arike at this point in the season with Asia Durr 3rd. Arike does/has taken more shots than any other (FGA, 3PA, FTA), chances are if a player takes that many shots there's a good chance you will also be 1st in FGM, 3PM and FTM as well as PTS/Gm. Collier's stats appears to be a more balanced game overall. As others have noted, if PTS becomes the main criteria for winning ROY, it's Arike's to lose.

Was pleasantly surprised by that article. The Ringer's women's basketball coverage is pretty spotty and some of it is just Shea Serrano pieces, which are funny but not informative. But this article was pretty good.

I was scoffed at by a poster on here for saying McCowan is a poor man's Sylvia Fowles, but look at their rookie numbers side by side:
Fowles: 10.5 ppg, 7.5 rpg, 51.3% FG, 2.1 blocks, 2.1 TO, 25 mpg
McCowan: 7.1 ppg, 8.3 rpg, 50.4% FG, 1.4 blocks, 1.1 TO, 20 mpg
Pretty accurate comparison I'd say.
McCowan also took a little while to get going and logged under 20 minutes in her first 8 games. Take those out and her numbers in the 14 games since are:
8.9 ppg, 10.4 rpg, 51.6% FG, 1.4 blocks, 1.3 TO, 23.3 mpg
In terms of league standings, she is 5th in rebounds, 8th in blocks, and anywhere from 10th-15th in FG% depending on the baseline you use.
Per 40 minutes, she's also first in the league in rebounds by a wide margin at 16.5 per game, and is also 4th in blocks per game.
I think Collier is still the favorite but McCowan is in the mix IMO.

The kid sure can rebound. The screenshot is a little small, but in terms of rebound percentage she is leading the league offensively, defensively, and overall.
Interesting list overall. Griner is nowhere to be found. For her size, she is a terrible rebounder. EDD's rebounding is probably underrated. Between that and her blocks (10th in block percentage) she is a sneaky good defensive player.
Anyhow, back on topic...yes Teaira McCowan is good.

Not surprised about Griner. She has never been a good rebounder despite her great size and length.
Also, a lot of people said that McCowan wouldn’t be able to do what she does in college against the likes of Cambage, Fowles, Griner, etc., but she still does her thing. I will be honest I didn’t think she would be an impact player at this stage in her career. An absolute rebounding machine.

McCowan has surprised me. I was worried about her speed and limited offensive skill set, but she's held her own in the minutes she's played.

I’ve never understood the arguments regarding a limited offensive skill set. I’ll admit she doesn’t have anywhere near guard skills but her shot extends beyond layups. She has developed range as evidenced by her free throw percentage her senior year. However her strength and ability to gain position to receive the ball down low is by far her greatest strength. I thought she would have difficulty against some of the bigger players in the WNBA but she is still holding her own. Therefore the low post positioning and layup is still her best weapon.

Fewer posts utilize a lot of back to the basket post moves so I think being able to position herself well, catch an entry pass and score is mostly what she'll need to be effective as a scorer. Passing out of double teams will improve as well as her midrange shot. Big T finishes well around the rim and has magnets for hands. I dont think there is another player in the league that has her combination of incredible hands along with her sheer size and strength. Defensively she has been exposed by quick bigs with perimeter shots but overall she has done quite well and holds up well during pace of play. I think the Liberty missed out on her big time, especially since Charles hasnt been battling as hard in the post this year.
Side rant--I've never understood the argument that she "drags" up the court or struggles to keep up with pace of play. She isnt fast but she is always back defensively and almost never looked winded during collegiate games when she was out there for a full 40 minutes. She isnt going to make her way up the court as effortlessly as players like the Ogwumikes, Turner and Wilson but she holds up.
In this game the Wings dominated the Liberty. In addition to Arike's strong performance Megan Gustafson continued her fine play. Since re-signing with Dallas she's done a wonderful job. Certainly makes one wonder what the Wings were thinking when they initially cut her.
The Wings were +23 with Gustafson on the court. Her 8 boards were game high and she scored 11 points.
The Liberty continue an up and down season as both Charles and Nurse seasaw from great to awful shooting.
