WNBA June 2019 Musings, scores, pictures, etc

This game is a stinker and all I have to look forward to is LA spiking my Liberty into the ground. Head bang
Yeah, it wasn't pretty. Atlanta collapsed in the 2nd half. Arike ended up leading the Wings in scoring with 17 points on an "efficient" 6 of 17 shooting. Seriously, 6 of 17 is the most efficient she's been all season.

She makes just enough tough shots to fuel her confidence and I guess 35% shooting makes her a sharpshooter in the WNBA

Amanda Zahui B with 24 of Liberty's 48 pts at half time (9-11 and 4-5 from 3). Talk about an unsustainable formula. Sparks still lead 50-48.

Yeah, the Sparks just have so many weapons. And that's not even counting the sawed-off shotgun of Riquna Williams.

Pretty shocking upset in LA. Amanda Zahui B with an epic career high of 37 points (8 of 9 from three) and Kia Nurse was money from the free throw line (15 of 16, total of 26 points) to nudge the Liberty past the Sparks late in the 4th quarter.

Did I hear that correctly? NY just snapped a string of 18 consecutive road losses??

I am happily wrong. Kia is something else. :D:D:D

Complaining about the ref's should be limited to the fans. It looks so weak when players (or coaches) go that route.

Geno part of the announcing crew (for some time at least) on ABC Sun vs Storm

Jordin Canada is day to day with a bone bruise. Blake Dietrick getting her first career start for the Storm today. Started off w/ a nice back and forth battle but Sun starting to run away with it as Q1 is drawing to a close.

Howard is a genuine stud but she's been almost the entirety of the offense for the Storm so far.

Probably the best possible news about Canada, although bone bruises can be painful and take time to heal.

Seattle with a 9-0 run. A game of spurts.

There's been an Anigwe sighting. Scored on a fast break and then grabbed a D board on the other end.

Can Geno work every WNBA game? Seriously, I love hearing his takes.

Continues to be a game of streaks. Sun was up 11 at half, Storm started Q3 on 12-0 run to briefly grab the lead. They turned up the defensive pressure and forced a bunch of turnovers.

Sparks are running away with it. Up 20 late in Q4. Getting fairly balanced scoring. Merc are basically Bonner and Griner, getting almost no scoring from anybody else.

Griner's dunk, one of the only Mercury highlights from Friday night's game.

Wow, that was fairly much a parting of the Red Sea by the defense there. Decent dunk, but for her height and length...meh. I can't wait to see Belibi dunk in a college game.

Too bad dunks dont count for 20 points :cool:
If they made dunks 4 points in the women’s game, there would have to be some serious thought given to defining, “What is a dunk?” (This is not a comment on Griner’s dunk the other day - that was a legit flush.)

Just imagine how much fun that would be delaying the game for 5 minutes while the refs watch endless replays to determine if it actually is a dunk or not.

Sparks getting their butt's kicked by the Mystics at home . 62-38 after 3Q on Candice's return. Chiney undoubtedly will blame the refs.

This is how you lose by 29 at home

Lol Candace with the MVP stat line, 3 points on 1-9 shooting and 6 turnovers. Not to mention all the layups she gave up while resting on defense. They were better off giving more minutes to Riquna "All 18" Williams

The sophomore class of the W was one of the best classes in draft history. Many of them have made improvements and hugely impact their teams. The players still on rosters are the whole first round are A’ja Wilson, Kelsey Mitchell, Diamond Deshields, Gabby, Jordan Canada, Azura, Ariel Atkins, Victoria Vivians(injured), Lexie Brown, Kia, Maria Vadeeva and Marie Gulich. Second rounders are Stephanie Muvanga, Monique Billings, Myisha Hines-Allen, and Mercedes Russell. I would say the players making the most impact are Wilson, Mitchell, Deshields(as of late), Canada(before going down with injury) Atkins, Brown, and Kia. Of that list I’d say the best players in the class are 1)Wilson 13.4ppg, 8.0 rpg, 2.4 app, 1.6 bpg, 2)Mitchell 14ppg, 2.4apg, 3)Nurse 15.4ppg, 2.4apg, 4)Deshields 14ppg, 4.7rpg, 2.3apg, 1.5spg and 5)Atkins 11.4ppg, 1.3apg, 1.6spg. If I had to choose one, I’m going Ariel Atkins.

Even the players who don’t get minutes or aren’t making large impacts still impact their teams as pretty good role players.

Watched Atlanta get a rare win this morning (albeit they played Indiana - somebody had to win). The league is a real mess with the large number of stars missing due to injury or foreign obligations, or just sitting out. Standings really look strange. CT running away with it, Chicago in 2nd place (What??:eek: ), Seattle in 5th, LA in the middle of the pack, Minnesota below .500, Phoenix in 10th place. Yikes. Need the stars back. Parity seems to = mediocrity.
