WNBA Draft (merged)

Lot of
I think the ESPN crew has called every pick correctly so far right before it comes in.

Angel Reese #7 to Chicago.
Both Cardoso and Reese will have established pros in Elizabeth Williams and Bri Turner to mentor and show the way.

Sheldon to 5 is a bit of a surprise to me. I think she'll be competing directly with last year's #5 pick (Lou Lopez Senechal) for playing time as a backup to Arike. Sheldon is a joy to watch but I think long term this could be viewed as a missed opportunity to grab Edwards or Reese.

Worth noting, Dallas has had now 8 top 5 picks in the last 5 years (11 first round picks overall) but the only one who has made any notable impact is Satou Sabally.

Is Washington a good landing spot is Aaliyah?
Definitely yes, particularly since EDD has decided to sit this season out. Shakira Austin will start and the other spot is likely between her, Dolson and Queen Egbo. Should be set up well for playing time as a rookie. Getting into the right situation is half the battle in this league and Edwards found a great landing spot.

This feels more like a team fit than "best available." Dallas just doesn't need a post: They have McCowan/Brown/Soares at the 5. Howard/Sabally potentially at 4.

After Arike, the only guard who is a scoring threat for Dallas is Crystal Dangerfield, who is vertically challenged. Burton is taller but a defensive specialist.

Comment on the 2nd part first: Greg Bibb overstocks at the same position all the dang time. He claimed in a recent interview that he is after need now.

So, if he's stickin' to his new religion, Sheldon is needed. As such, I think he's looking at her as a ball handler, as opposed to a back-up to Arike per se. The one other aspect of her game that is key: that speed. I'm not surprised her mom ran track -- Sheldon can motor.

#9 and #10 are French players.

edit--Dallas and Connecticut respectively

Wings are definitely going for guards

Well they do have Lou Lopez Sénéchal who has yet to show her skills in the WNBA yet.

Last pick of 1st Round is an Australian player to Atlanta. Definitely went international the back half of Round 1.

Poor Nika. It's nerve-wracking to keep sitting there waiting to be called.
Hate when a kid is invited and doesn’t get picked. Hopefully Nika will be called soon.
Rebecca is doing a really nice job tonight. She clearly did her homework on all the players and there hasn’t been all the extraneous stuff as so often happens during games.
