WNBA 2026

Didn't want to start a new thread so throwing this in here. Just read that Kara Braxton has died. Way too young.

Really sad stuff. She was one of my favorites to watch back in the day with the Shock. A big personality and not afraid to mix it up in the paint.

For the first time in history, the WNBA generated enough revenue in 2025 to trigger revenue sharing with its players, union leadership told ESPN on Sunday. Union leaders said the league notified player leadership earlier this month that they hit the benchmark. The 13 teams will receive a total of $8 million from the league to disperse among players, the union said.

Well, this is great to read. So maybe some of those "WNBA is losing money" chatter heads can take a break? Fully aware this doesn't mean there weren't losses but this continues to prove things have been moving in a positive direction to me.

If that $8 million is exclusively for players, then you're probably looking at like a $50k payout per player on average. I assume there will be some nuance for players who joined the league halfway through the season, but that's probably a good ballpark figure.

The NBA, through its secret books, monopolizes information on how profitable the WNBA really is and what player-created revenue gets to be shared.
  • Of the revenue that gets to be shared, it is a mouse treadmill derived slice of a slice (below). Article available via Google Search (The website garbles attempts to directly link to it. Mox is a HerHoopStats contributor).
  • Article below gives an idea how the payout works..

Silly me, I thought that if there were revenue sharing, the players union would need to know the revenue, i. e., see the books. I’m surprised anyone writing about it doesn’t put “revenue sharing” in quotes.

Apparently if this was agreed to, players like Clark, Bueckers and Boston would qualify for fast tracking.

This is turning into a disaster for the WNBPA. You have Plum publicly stating they don't want to strike, plus internal issues with WNBPA that are now being shared publicly. I'm not an expert on negotiations but these public cracks can't help their stance.

Furthermore, reading online it sounds like many of the Unrivalred players are happy to sit out since they're getting a payday and there's potential for an Unrivaled Summer league, while the 'have nots' who weren't invited to play in Unrivalred are trying to get this solved so they can play and get paid this upcoming season.

Now my only worry is if an agreement is reached, that the WNBA and Owners do a rush job on the season and create a bigger mess. I hate to go all negative but I just don't see how an entire offseason of moves, free agency signings, expansion draft, WNBA draft, and throw in training camp, can happen in a two-month span.

Didn’t the league say everything needed to be in place by March 10 in order not to affect the season? I thought that was a bit ambitious, and it’s slipping.

Nobody’s coming out of this smelling like roses (or even a decent chai).

Yep and it was very ambitious move, I agree. We shall see what develops.

WNBA, WNBPA Reach Tentative Verbal Agreement for New CBA

“A timeline previously shared with general managers had the expansion draft being held between April 1 and 6. Qualifying offers, including core designations, could be sent out on April 7 and 8, followed by a negotiating period from April 9-11. The signing period would begin on April 12 and extend through the 18th.”

“”This deal is going to be transformational,” Stewart said. “You’ll see the details hopefully soon, but it’s going to build and help create a system where everybody is getting exactly what they deserve and more. From on the court and off the court aspects. I’m just excited that we can tell our fans that we’re going to be back.””
