Unfortunately the committee doesn't look at that and looks at the losses. It certainly doesn't when you lose the 1st game of the BE tournament. Well let's hope Penders and hook C can bounce back from this better and stronger ever from this tournament snub.
 
The bar was unrealistically high for UConn. 17-4 in conference, 23-4 down the stretch. But still needed to beat either Northeastern or Rutgers. Leagues like the BE and teams like UConn just can’t leave an out for the committee or they will use it. Needed mid-week pitching and that never came together.
 
Huskies were in the same boat last year and it broke their way. This year, the Nebraskas and ECUs crashed the party and there were less bids. We have lacked a true ace since Peterson, Gotta win on Fridays and in the tourney against Xavier and Creighton.

The committee does indeed have it rough. The oligarchs that run NCAA baseball demand that virtually every SEC and Big 12 teams get in. Then add all of the auto bids, and there simply isn't too much room for error. You can be co-champs in the BE, but if you don't win the tourney, get out the golf clubs.

LOSERS​

The Big East - Up until a few days ago, we thought the Big East was a legitimate three-bid league. Conference tournament champion Creighton ended up earning the league’s automatic bid, but for it to end up as a one-bid league—especially taking into account the resumes of UConn and Xavier—is surprising. The two clubs had comparable RPIs at 41 and 39, respectively, along with other favorable metrics. We’ll hit on Xavier a little further down, but UConn shared the regular-season conference title, compiled 38 overall wins, advanced to the conference tournament championship and totaled 12 quad-one and quad-two victories.

Snubs​

Xavier - Not making the tournament is one thing. But Xavier not finishing among the first four teams out is another. The Musketeers had a strong case for an at-large bid. They finished the season with a top-40 (39) RPI to go along with the No. 33 strength of schedule, the fourth-best non-conference strength of schedule and 16 quad-one plus quad-two wins. Their 16 Q1+Q2 wins are more than Arizona State (9), Kentucky (12) and Kansas State (13), which all earned at-large bids. As a cherry on top, it’s hard to not wonder what would have happened if Xavier’s early-season midweek matchup against Louisville didn’t get canceled. Playing the hypothetical game is hardly ever productive, but a win in that game most likely would have shot Xavier further up the RPI ladder.
 
Stumbling out of the gate has consequences. Last year, we made it up. This year not. This is something that needs to be addressed. Still a good season and the team won a lot of games. But with a more credible early seaon we are still playing.

I know BA has always had a massive hate-on for us but Xavier being a snub and us not (and also them having Xavier in their final projection and not us) is WILD work when we have them on practically everything except head-to-head.

Can't keep walking hitters or giving them first base on a HBP. Wouldn't hurt to avoid giving up leads. 6-0 and you get beat.

Northeastern had a great year and they were definitely better than us "this year". You make it sound like that's the norm there. UCONN lost 2 out of 3 games on the road on their 7th and 8th straight weekends traveling. No one else in the country had to do that. If you think Kentucky, Arizona State, Cincinatti and OK State with 28 total wins and played 8 less games all deserve to get in before UCONN your'e nuts. This is 100% Power 4 $$$$ driven. Look at the 1st 4 out and tell me what they all have in common.

Saying that it's primarily football would put this statement in that same category. All sports are at risk even if the timeline varies between them.

As much as it hurts, the committee is right. Plus we lost 2 of 2 to Northeastern, split with BC, lost to Rutgers. Our run against the dregs of the Big East was irrelevant. Had we done better against the only other BE teams worth a damn ( Creighton and Xavier; can we all acknowledge the rest of BE baseball is crap) we might have prevailed. Our early season wins against Miami (x2), Vanderbilt and UNC were more than offset by a woeful strength-of-schedule and bad losses.

One win against Creighton in the BE final might would have pushed us over the top. We failed………and suffered the consequences.

Texas, Florida, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Mississippi State…… North Carolina, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Clemson, Wake Forest?

No, we don’t, (albeit
through no fault of our own, since we are in a lousy baseball conference). So………we cannot lose to the likes of Rutgers, BC, Northeastern (twice), Xavier (four times), Creighton (three times), and expect a lousy out-of-conference schedule to be ignored.

We can gripe all day about P4 bias, but we must negotiate the landscape as it is, not how we’d like it to be.

My 3 thoughts:

1. If our entire identity is "Northeast grit" and woe is us that we have an impossible situation being a northeast team so we will out grind you with lesser heralded players, you cannot allow 3 northeast schools (Northeastern, BC, Rutgers) come into your home field and smack you around. That goes against the DNA in which you built the program on. Many of those teams had better players than we did at key positions. Some were tougher than we are. We cannot afford to let that happen coming off 2 super regional appearances and a brand new stadium/facilities. We need to upgrade the talent especially the pitching if we want to avoid what happened this year. The pitching is simply not of quality depth and rarely is. Even our tournament teams have gotten embarrassed from a pitching standpoint (28 runs in 1 NCAA game to Notre Dame, 24 runs in game 1 vs FSU last year).

We got off to a meandering and lackluster start. 0-3 in Puerto Rico against OK competition. Gave up a zillion runs to Florida Atlantic. Gave away 2 games vs Campbell. Got blown out vs BC and Northeastern during the week. Put us in an impossible hole.

The only answer is to improve the talent in pitching. It's simply not strong or deep enough. I don't know if they have the NIL to compete for better arms.

2. We deserved to be in over Miami, Kentucky, and Oklahoma St. We didn't get in because we have 2 super conferences, 2 conferences afraid to upset those super conferences, and everyone else afraid to upset the "power" 4 conferences. That includes UConn BTW. Not to mention regional bias especially in a sport like baseball.

3. No one appears to be willing to challenge or call out this cycle so it's hard to even get upset anymore when teams get screwed over. Instead we will have to live through the WOW THE SEC SENT 14 TEAMS THE THE TOURNAMENT tweets for _____ sport. This is the future people seem content with so it's what we will get.

Nah. We should have won more of those but this is just the usual favoritism towards to P4 conferences. The Big East is a death sentence.

Yes, you make my case. Die a slow death in this crap conference or move on, whatever it takes. In five years we will be joining the big boys or reliving our Yankee Conference days.

I was thinking the same thing. If UConn played Oklahoma ST instead of Maine and won the series then maybe that would have gotten them over the hump and in.
