Men Wins Needed for a 2025 At Large Bid

What started as a promising weekend, ended disappointing. Won on Friday and then leading in second game, but couldn’t finish it off. Then again led in 2nd game of double-header only to lose again. Now we have 2 tough games. We need at least a split.

Weird year so far. Few weeks ago we have a tough stretch then beat Vandy. This week another tough few games and then beat a ranked North Carolina team.
Obviously need our starters to pitch much better, but if we can that somewhat fixed we can hopefully turn the season around.

Trying to over the tough loss to Florida in MBB. A game we could have won. But very happy with the effort vs a real good Florida team.

We won our 4th straight baseball game, and overall our pitching has been very solid. We are actually 2 wins better than we were after 21 games last year. Hopefully we can turn it on like we did last year.

Have a tough 9 game stretch, with 7 games on the road. 7 of the 9 games are vs teams with RPI of 61 or lower. Let’s keep the momentum rolling.

Not much to say about yesterday, just a good old fashioned butt whipping. Watched the game on The Wax, and thought with a 4-0 lead we were in good shape. Unfortunately the wheels fell off.

I’m usually an optimistic person, but it’s tough when I see all red in the chart after 26 games into the season. Not giving up yet, but it’s looking more and more like BE Tournament will be are only route to tournament. Hopefully we are playing our best baseball by end of season.

It's been a frustrating year, there is inconsistency as it looks like 1 step forward, 2 back, then 2 steps forward 1 back. I still have hope this team consistently moves forward in April and is peaking for the Big East Tournament and beyond.

I agree with your assessment. UConn would really have to turn things around to have any sort of a chance at an at large bid to the NCAA Tourney, that is for sure.

No. Given remaining strength of schedule (lack thereof due to the Big East really slipping in baseball), last week was the week that any chance for an at large bid went away. They're now playing for the Big East regular season championship, which is still achievable, and getting ready for the post-season knowing they'll have to win the Big East tourney to get into the NCAAs.

Certainly agree with you on this. If UConn goes on a big winning track the rest of the regular season, perhaps they may get some sort of a slim chance for an at large bid. Of course this also depends on what happens with other schools who are in contention for at large bids as well.

For the rest of the season, UConn plays a lot more weaker teams than they have been playing, and they also play a lot more games at home. Neither of these things are going to help keep their RPI up in the range it is now.
 
Like I mentioned in a previous post, I’m usually an optimist and it takes a lot before I give up on a possible At Large Bid opportunity. But I’m thinking we need a sweep this weekend to keep our slight hopes alive, even though dbmill points out (correctly) how difficult a sweep is to pull off.

Let’s see what we can do.

Thanks as always. I've been all in on Basketball and Hockey, then the Masters. Soon NBA playoffs, yet I still want to follow UConn baseball. This thread is a life saver in providing a snapshot of where we are. Now I need to catch a few games to watch.
 
Always nice beating BC in any sport. Our bats were on fire, but pitching still worries me.
Coincidentally last year we were 17-17 going into the BC game and lost. So this year with the win we are actually 1 game ahead of last year’s record at 18-17. We obviously tore through our Big East schedule last year. Need to do same thing this year, but our conference RPI is bothersome. We are currently at 12, where last year we were at 7.

Only thing we can do is keep winning.
