Men Wins Needed for a 2025 At Large Bid

I think most of us agree, that if season ended today we would be in the Tournament. But I don’t believe we are a lock, unless we take care of business these last 7 games.
Beating Butler (274 RPI) and Maine (184) doesn’t help us a lot, but losing hurts a great deal.

Beating Northeastern (30) would be a feather in our cap, and I would be extremely happy with that. But I would be more disappointed if we don’t do well vs Butler and Maine.

I’m thinking (at minimum) we need to go 5-2 over these last 7 games. What does everyone else think?

Go Huskies!!!

With Xavier losing last night, I hope we don't take the foot off the pedal against Butler. That would guarantee 2nd place at worst. I want 7-0 to leave no space for the committee, however, the UConn way seemingly is to do things the hard way.

The UConn way the past few years is start the season really bad, leave us all thinking that this is not the year, maybe next year and then suddenly from no where turning it on and becoming a CWS threat. I am expecting the same.

5-2 is something of a realistic record down the stretch for UConn. Series sweeps are a tough thing especially when a doubleheader is a part of the series, but considering Butler is probably the worst team in the Big East this season it certainly could happen especially with all the sweeps UConn has had in Big East series this season.

There are still 2 games to go in this Xavier-Creighton series, we'll see what happens. If Creighton sweeps that would certainly be something.

We did what we needed to due by sweeping Butler. We now have won 19 of last 20, and our offense is on fire. Ryan Daniels ( fellow St Paul grad) was 8 for 10, 6 runs scored, 10 RBI, 2 HR, 1 triple and a double. Our RPI fell from 31 to 41, but there is nothing we can do about that except keep winning. Let’s sweep tomorrow.

Go Huskies!!!

Creighton walks off Xavier 6-5 in Gm2

Hard to believe that we could take care of business today, win our 15th straight conference game, and still finish second in this crappy conference. But if Creighton can finish its sweep of X and win three more next week to finish 18-3, good for them.

The problem in the Big East is not the teams trying to compete with us. It’s the teams that don’t give a crap whether they are competitive or not

It was unfortunate luck of the draw for us in conference this season as we played the two best remaining teams on the road at the start of conference season.

That they were both on the road is just how things fell this season as this will happen in odd years. That the games were played to start conference play, well, if we had been off to a stronger start that advantage could have been ours.

We are playing very well heading into the tournament. We need to capitalize on that.

With the always changing RPI, we are currently up to 37. Let’s keep winning!!!!

Go Huskies!!!

Big East baseball currently has only 2 teams that are over 200 in the RPI rankings.

I know this is sacrilegious, but I can’t help but wonder if we can cancel our series against RPI anchor Maine. Could easily be the difference b/t bid and no bid.

Another Big East weekend sweep. As dbmill always states (and I agree), in baseball it is difficult to sweep a series. We have now swept our last 5 Big East series. Pretty impressive.

We also clinched at least a tie of another conference championship. One loss by Creighton next weekend, and we are outright champions.

If we win our last 4 games, our overall record criteria ( below) would be green for the first time all year. If you asked me 5 weeks ago, I would have said that there would be no way. It’s amazing what winning 20 of last 21 games can do for a season!!!

Hate to see UConn game the system that way. We scheduled Maine. Play the games.
I certainly don't understand how the RPI is calculated but it seems screwed up if you need to cancel games, as we have seen in the past few years, to make your team look better for post season consideration. Teams should be encouraged to play the games that they scheduled especially in the Northeast where weather is always a factor.
