Men Wins Needed for a 2025 At Large Bid

Like Coach Penders stated in his post game interview, we got beat by a better team tonight.

Let’s get back on track vs Maine.

Go Huskies!!!

Tonight could have solidified us I think. Now we have work to do. Avoid a landmine vs Maine and we can probably survive with a 2-2 BET.

Kinda disheartening the way they’ve been exposed by the only decent teams they’ve played the last 6 weeks

Is this saying that we're the only BE school with the possibility of landing an at-large bid?

What last night did was remove our margin for error against Maine. We used up the one remaining loss we could have without threatening our at large qualification. A loss to Maine would make me very, very nervous. But a loss to Maine at home shouldn’t happen

If Creighton or St. John's wins the BE Tournament there is no way in hell they are letting three Big East teams in the NCAA's. Xavier sweeps Penn State and UCONN loses one to Maine and it's going to be a nerve racking Sunday into selection Monday. Xavier would have head to head and RPI on us with a better SOS. UCONN is 11-13 against Quad 1 and 2 and Xavier is 13-20. UCONN has better Quad 1 wins and dominated the BIG EAST offensively with a better conference record.. UCONN is also hotter playing over .800 baseball the second half. I think UCONN's recent tournament success has to play into it as well. Sweep Maine, win a game or 2 in the BIG EAST tournament and they should get in but if there are some crazy tournament upsets the at large pool gets harder. You know they are going to let as many power 4 teams in as they can without it looking too obvious.

I agree with this. The SEC is going to almost put the entire conference into the tournament. It's outrageous. Give them them the opportunity and they'll start lobbying for Mizzou, for God's sake!

They did just sweep the preseason #1 team. They’ll probably get in now.

They did beat us by 4 runs at a neutral site. Having said that, I don't see how some good wins can overcome both their record and their RPI.

This may be my last post of the season. We are off to Italy for 2 weeks. I’m going to do my best to continue to follow and post, but that will be dependent on WiFi, cell service and time difference. Some random thoughts below.

(1) after a very slow start, we ended with an impressive run at the end of the season. Kudos to the players and coaches

(2) with hopefully a win tomorrow, we would be very close to meeting the charts goals below ( pre BE tourney).

(3) assuming a win tomorrow ( I hope this isn’t a jinx), I think we would be in great shape for a bid with a couple of wins in BE tourney.

(4) worse case scenario is losing to Maine, losing both games in BE and St. John’s winning BE.

(5) as always, thanks to everyone of the board. Your game updates, comments and banter make the season fun.

Again, I will do my best to keep posting. Also my hope is that when I return, we will be playing in a regional.

Let’s keep winning!!!

Go Huskies!!!!

Ciao… safe travels!

I pretty much agree with this. It is interesting that last season UConn did not win any games in the Big East Tournament, but they still got an at large bid to the NCAA Tournament. Of course, something that happened last season may not necessarily happen this season, but we shall see what happens.

Current RPI ratings for the teams in the Big East Tournament.

38. UConn
39. Xavier
50. Creighton
97. St. John's

Not bad at all. While I expect that the Big East will probably be limited to 2 teams making the NCAA Tournament, I suspect it is slightly possible that 3 teams could end up getting in depending on what happens in other conference tournaments.

The top half of the Big East certainly isn’t terrible. It’s the bottom half that unfortunately drags the conference down

Pardon my ignorance, but do Providence, Marquette and DePaul not field D-1 baseball teams? The Providence website in particular makes it look like they compete in the conference and this not the case....?
