I’m amazed that Auburn is only 6 spots behind Uconn in Warren Nolan RPI while having a 2-18 record now w/in conf play. It shows the value of that conference. Auburn probably won’t get in the tournament as of now, but again, being in distance with that record is amazing imo

Would have been a terrible loss, but we pulled it out. Did what we set out to do this week, going 5-0. No matter the competition, sweeping a series is not easy. We have won 15 of last 17. On a roll.

GoHuskies!!!

This is interesting because in hoops, of course, they all swear that conference records and standings are totally irrelevant -- it's about total schedule treating all games equally. Now, baseball doesn't have to award at large bids on the same criteria as hoops, but the less visiability into what the criteria, is, the more room for favoritism.

But that is a little misleading relative to conferences. In basketball pretty much everyone plays 20 league games which is 2/3 of your schedule. And since leagues are somewhat hierarchical, eg the ACC is better than the A-10, the league record is fairly important, especially for the high mid-majors. Kind of the same thing here but in this case we are in a baseball equivalent of the basketball A-10. In a league where there is at best 1 at-large, it is going to the best team in the league.

When the Top 25 includes 9 SEC teams (counting Oklahoma) and the ACC 7…. Conference does play in. IMHO

New week - new projections:

Fayetteville, Ark.
1. (2) Arkansas^
2. UConn*
3. Louisiana Tech*
4. Arkansas-Little Rock*

That the Huskies are getting 2-seed cred from national publications is a huge sign of respect. The club is gelling and the talent is there, but the resume? That being said, I do think past performance is indicative of future results - versus other programs who shrink in the postseason. I think we will club SH this weekend. Maybe not sweep, but score a bunch of runs. 17-4 in the league.

Just noticed the next team we play is a one off return matchup against a tough Northeastern squad with some nice wins. That comes immediately after a 3 game road trip for both squads. Should be an interesting matchup with both teams looking for a post season opportunity. Things come at you fast.

This team may not be one of the best UConn teams in recent memory, but man are they resilient. Have to love their toughness.

Chart all green. Let’s keep rolling.

…and now if they can win the remaining 2 series plus at least a split in the non conference games, they’ll have recovered. Will that guarantee an at-large? Again, idk how given what’s left. Series sweeps or sweep the non conference. I hate to have to rely on a 4 team tournament, especially this season.

8-0 the rest of the season. I think that may do it and if they go on to win the BE Tournament it’ll be more about seeding, hopefully. Win out and perhaps a good regional draw awaits.

I’m rooting for St. John’s. They played some really tough true road series/games ( Fla. Houston, Texas, Sam Hou St. ) and got a few wins along the way. They should be rewarded for that and those wins should carry more weight. It appears that’s the case.

We have now won 17 of last 20 games, and chart is all green. The next 5 games are vs teams with good RPI (39,57 and 70). I believe we need to get a minimum of 3 wins to keep our At Large bid alive.

I don’t think many of us would have predicted we would be in this position 20 games ago. Need to give the team and coaching staff a lot of credit. Let’s keep winning.

Go Huskies!!!

I agree to an extent. Creighton’s struggling and when it truly matters come Selection Monday, anything short of a Creighton sweep at home will be a losing battle. If they can get both NE/Cincy to offset that, then maybe. The Butler series has to be a formality and no baseball game is that. Tough spot to be in. Otherwise, 27 wins and not a whole lot of weight carrying wins to show. I’m just being realistic and trying to temper expectations. An at-large is within distance but I don’t believe it’s nearly a few wins away. If not 8-0 then 7-1 the rest of the way. With the remaining schedule that has to be the goal.

I don’t necessarily disagree with your points, and value your analysis. Going 8-0, or 7-1 would be optimal. But if we go 5-3 rest of regular season and end up in BE tournament championship game, that would get us to 34 wins. I believe the Big East has a very good chance of getting two teams in. If that is true, we should be one of those 2 teams.

We still have much work to do. These next 5 games will be very interesting. We have been on a roll, that needs to continue for a few more weeks.

Go Huskies!!!
