As someone else mentioned in another thread, this team has the potential to have a much better record than 20-17. Hopefully we get everything together by the BE Tournament. Unless we go on a 20 game win streak ( not even sure that would be enough), the only way we get a bid is by winning the BE tournament.

Go Huskies!!!!

So all we have to do is win our next 17 straight games (which would mean ending the season on a 22 game win streak) and then we are right where we need to be?! 😀

If Minnick could get healthy before the end of the end of the regular season that just could possibly happen.

To be clear, though, even winning out the regular season won’t get us an NCAA bid. RPI is too low and the remaining games aren’t against good enough teams to get us there. Winning out would leave us not just two wins short of ucjoet’s goals, but will have been achieved with a significantly worse SOS than what we’ve had in prior years.

The only way into the NCAAs is through the Big East tourney. And the fact that you’re not playing for an at large bids doesn’t make winning games less important. All you have is to win the games in front of you.

This is a serious question. I ask because I don’t really follow UConn baseball closely these days. I Listen to the radio broadcasts when I can and I check scores but haven’t been to a game in a few years.

Last season we finished behind Creighton and lost in the Big East tourney and got left out of the field for the NCAA. This year we’ve struggled again and are behind 2 teams in the standings. Now we need to win the BE tourney again to get in. It seems that the last couple of seasons have been a bit of a step back in terms of where the program has been. I’m curious as to whether this is a longer term trend that reflects something like NIL and its impact on college baseball, the impact of being in a 1-bid league, though we have gotten in without winning the league tournament, or is it just a couple of seasons where some flukes (injuries, bad luck, really bad weather or something just didn’t work out) have temporarily hurt the program but everyone thinks it will recover quickly?

Injuries, to arguably the two best players on the roster this season have had a major impact on the season. Catcher, Connor Lane played only 4 or 5 games before a freak injury ended his season and perhaps his UConn career. Tyler Minick has played the entire season with an injury that has severely hampered his hitting. He has not played the last 7 or 8 games. I hope he has been held out to possibly be healthy for the Big East tourney.

You want a serious answer? We’re in a period where the rules are changing so constantly year to year that there is no way to tell. It may be that the world is changing around us in a way that’s going to make the future less bright, and it may be that the last two years we’ve only been a player or two short of being in our normal range and injuries and folks just not playing to their expected levels have killed us. Time will tell.

What I can tell you is our conference is getting worse around us, and that makes our margin for error much, much less than it was.
