OT: Wimbledon 2019 - Gauff (15 yr old girl)

Looks like the future of American women's tennis is not so Riske(y) as it looked before the championships started.

Perhaps Barty thinks you did jinx the result! ;)

Alison played beautifully in the last 2 sets and it was really not Barty's fault. I really like Ash Barty and her story so I guess in abstract, I would have liked to see her make another deep run but such a big win for Alison who never made it to the Quarters of a grand slam. I also saw her post game interview. Very nice person who really appreciates this moment.

I do not know anything about Barty, and I would defer to your assessment of her. I know that Ms Riske is from a suburb south west of Pittsburgh. She was the WPIAL high school women's tennis champion at Peter's Township in maybe 2006.

Serena vs Riske in the Quarters. Start time 8AM on ESPN. Would love to see an upset.

Two high quality matches going on.:D:D:D:D

I was lucky enough to watch the match in real time (Boss is away :p ) on WatchESPN. She is a real treat to watch. Very composed player with above average serve, real nerve on her second serves, strong ground strokes with nice clearance from both wings (not sure of her winner / undfoeced error numbers but I am sure they are at least 2 to 1) and tactically strong.

She also was unbelievably gracious on the handshake. She teared up and told Venus that without her, she would never have had this opportunity. Apparently, she was a qualifier and went roughshod through her 3 qualifying matches.

Oh and catch her post match interview. Unbelievable maturity for a 15 year old.
Very straight forward answers without trying to be too cute.

and apparently, she is being managed by some version of the Federer Management team (from 13 years old) so I am sure she will continue to
learn from the best.

and on a day where Osaka just crumbled.

I watched some of her 3rd match. Does she ever advance to the net. Seems her game is all at or behind the line. Is that a fair assessment?

Riske went down to Serena today, and was ever so gracious in her loss. Tough to beat a 121 mph serve!

you got your wish...

It was a great match. Riske was very good but Serena looked as good as I can remember in the last few years. I think she will win the tournament and maybe the mixed doubles too.

down goes Serena

down goes Serena

Lost to the #1 seeded team in 3 sets (although the 3rd set was not competitive)
Shows how doubles specialists can beat superior singles players

Don't blink or you will miss the Djokovic Agut match.

Looking to sneak some time to catch Federer Nadal

Well, I was wrong on the first match. Much closer than I thought. Agut played very well but Djokovic was too strong. Very impressive. His confidence is unreal. I do not see him losing to anyone.

Gauff / Potapova 1 set all but Gauff just got broken leading off set 3. Game filled with errors on both sides. Gauff looke slike she is feeling the pressure alot more than at Wimbeldon

Coco breaks for a 3-1 lead in the 3rd!!!

...and holds , to lead 4-1 !!!!!

She is playing so more relaxed and error free. And her serve is dynamite. Potapova called a medical evaluation

Gauff takes it 6-4 in set 3. Unlike the 2nd set, the tennis quality was very high. Potapova got it even at 4-4 and Gauff had to fight tooth and nail to hold her serve to go up 5-4. Gauff then broke easily and earned this one.. :D:D

I wonder if their first match will be on Centre Court? Andy Murray and Serena Williams will be one of the rare times an early round mixed doubles match will be played in front of a sold out show court. The British press will be all over it.
Has anyone heard about where is Wire Chief and Scoop ??
