OT: Wimbledon 2019 - Gauff (15 yr old girl)

down goes Serena

Lost to the #1 seeded team in 3 sets (although the 3rd set was not competitive)
Shows how doubles specialists can beat superior singles players

Don't blink or you will miss the Djokovic Agut match.

Looking to sneak some time to catch Federer Nadal

Well, I was wrong on the first match. Much closer than I thought. Agut played very well but Djokovic was too strong. Very impressive. His confidence is unreal. I do not see him losing to anyone.

Gauff / Potapova 1 set all but Gauff just got broken leading off set 3. Game filled with errors on both sides. Gauff looke slike she is feeling the pressure alot more than at Wimbeldon

Coco breaks for a 3-1 lead in the 3rd!!!

...and holds , to lead 4-1 !!!!!

She is playing so more relaxed and error free. And her serve is dynamite. Potapova called a medical evaluation

Gauff takes it 6-4 in set 3. Unlike the 2nd set, the tennis quality was very high. Potapova got it even at 4-4 and Gauff had to fight tooth and nail to hold her serve to go up 5-4. Gauff then broke easily and earned this one.. :D:D

I wonder if their first match will be on Centre Court? Andy Murray and Serena Williams will be one of the rare times an early round mixed doubles match will be played in front of a sold out show court. The British press will be all over it.
Has anyone heard about where is Wire Chief and Scoop ??

Alert: 17 yr old Katie McNally takes Serena in set 1 7-5.:eek::eek:
Big kid. No fluke.

Serena upping her game. Takes set 2 6-3.

McNally takes so many chances on her serves (and service returns). Will need to
curtail that as she gets older imho.

Edit: Serena just bludgeons McNally and breaks her at love. Think this may end quickly now.

Gauff takes set 1 6-2 over qualifier Babos after being broken in game 1.

Babos is not really giving her a test. So many unforced errors

Edit: Spoke too soon. Babos cleaned up her game and took the second set 6-4.

Played well but seemed to have more errors than in Round 1. Babos had some big errors on her final set break.

But you got to love the emotion she plays with.

She goes against Osaka. That will be fun.

Didnt want to make a whole thread about this last week, but the local ATP tournament (Winston-Salem Open) did something different. For the first time ever... they had an Women's exhibition match featuring Gauff vs Barty.... tickets sold out in under two hours.. A write up of the event if you care to read about it.... but it was a huge success....

Ashleigh Barty, Coco Gauff thrill crowd in their women's exhibition match in the Winston-Salem Open

Gauff filled up Armstrong Stadium with close to 14,000 fans last night. She has a chance to be a top 10 player soon. She needs to improve her consistency, however, she is very smart, fast, has a great serve, etc. And she is just 15.

Overshadowed by the Gauff victory, but Taylor Townsend knocked off Halep. I've always liked TT's game.

Thanks for the video. Man is it fun to see someone who likes to serve and volley (as does the young player whom Serena just beat). I hope it is making a comeback.

It seems there is a bunch of young players that like to play that serve and volley game. Too bad I don't see a bunch of young men doing the same.

Here is a more detailed background story of Townsend's ordeals with the USTA and her career path.

Pretty tough lady.

Coco's enthusiasm is amazing

Townsend playing now on ESPN2. Broke at 5-5 at love to go up 6-5. Serving for the first set. Let's get behind her. :)

Edit:

She goes serve and volley every shot and is successful. Won the game at love. 7-5 first set. :D:D:D
