Will you watch Alabama-Clemson?

It does not include Watch ESPN as far as I know. I did see in one of the articles that the mobile streaming numbers were very good for ESPN. That said, for the football national championship with one relative outsider and one blue blood to get outdrawn by the basketball national championship also with one relative outsider and one blue blood is astonishing.

Basketball is obviously now driving the bus. P5s will be offering US tons of cash to accept their invite!

I was thinking about you during the game. I hate the ACC and couldn't root for Clemson but if they won, your good fortune would have been the consolation.

Or a full year of "well I was right on Clemson so..."

I'm skeptical that the football championship will ever really catch on beyond the hard core. Last year was a curiosity but this year was more normal. It drags out to long and drags into the NFL playoffs which utterly dominate it. Plus it is not helpful to have 2 southern teams, one of whom isn't even the biggest name in its own league. Big fans and Pac fans have moved on to basketball now that the Rose bowl is over. B12 have too.

I think it will ebb and flow depending on who is in the game. Michigan vs USC? Texas vs Ohio State? Huge ratings most likely.

Baylor vs Florida State? Uh oh

Jax you might be right but I think they over played their hand and made this more complicated than need be and left 40 bowl games to boot. College football fans are closer to baseball fans than NFL fans. The vast majority care about their team their league but once that's done a small tournament not so much. Especially without a rooting interest.

With lots of pressure to increase ratings, especially with the New Year's Eve scheduling still in place, watch how next year's committee maneuvers to rationalize leaving out some deserving but less compelling names.
