This is partially for "fun" but also to learn from senior Boneyarders with
a knowledge/ history of knowing GENO's short term Tactics and long-term strategies.
1. No Change: Geno follow his normal pattern (please elaborate).
2. Over emphasis 3-point shooting % of total shots, i.e. to see who
demonstrates "consistency" in support of Paige. (See GENO's
Post Game pressor from N.D.)
3. Overvalue the inside game: provide extra "reps" for Jana and ICE to
develop this, provide "muscle memory " to our BIGS regarding scoring
and rebounding.
4. Geno asks Paige to defer "playing through contact". Again, see Geno's
post-game pressor when he stated that "Paige may be her own worse
enemy"(or something to that effect).
5. Play AZZI?? I know Geno stated early in the week that AZZI would not
play " for a week"?? and then it will be "day to day". But the Louisville game
WAS on Saturday night... so.... Is there any benefit to Azzi NOT STARTING,
or coming off the bench (early or late). Does Geno need/want to see which
squads may work best with Paige, Sarah, and Azzi... at least for the USC game?
6. For those BONEYARDERS " in the know" what do you know of GENO'S history
of using a "sandwich" game like Georgetown? Between a BIG game like N.D.
especially as a loss with some "issues" and two coming games against ranked
opponents.
7. My fantasy is that: a. Azzi plays (some), b. Paige and Sarah work on
their playing off each other like in the second half in South Bend. c.
Geno's gently pressures SARAH to work on " playing with an All American
mindset", and d. GENO GIVES some extra "reps" to ICE, JANA, and encourages a
full game offense focused ASHLYNN SHADE.
8. Again, back to the N.D. post-game pressor: will we see any of SARAH at the
5 position with a four-guard complement??
9. Other ideas??

I have been a fan of Geno for 30+ years and I don't see him changing his approach based on the result of one game unless he sees the road he is going down isn't getting him where he wants to be. I could see him swapping Jana and Ice or something along those lines but big changes I would say no.

Geno hopefully will be able to have a player or two to slow down Ransom. She reminds me of someone...or two.

This is a Big East game with Georgetown and although most of the teams in the Big East have improved their rosters, They still haven't come up to Uconn's level. I am predicting another undefeated season for Uconn in the Big East. Some things don't change and this is one of them. I believe that when the Big East title is won by, Uconn, whatever had to be corrected to play in the Big Dance will have been taken care of. GENO will have the team ready. GO FRESHMEN!!!! GO SOPHOMORES!!!!! G

I think he knows what he has in Ice, KK and Chen, the latter two being replacements for each other, not on the court together. He has to devise a plan to accelerate Jana's development - she has the will, drive and determination, and hopefully the skill to be THAT post player by March. He know what he has in Azzi, just has to manage her minutes appropriately to the demands of the season. The most difficult and immediate task is to find out whether Ash has IT or not and he may have already decided that. The importance here is the need for her to relieve Azzi and bring the game we think she has everytime. I think Morgan will get more time in more roles, leaving Q and Allie for next year.

Based on Geno's post game comments after ND, I do think that we will see a "Sarah and 4 guards" lineup as soon as Sunday. That lineup was used for a few minutes against both Louisville and ND, and it worked reasonably well (at least as well as the conventional lineup). And it will certainly get Ice's and Jana's attention if he uses it for more minutes than he has.

I doubt that he will use it for a majority of any game, but if UConn is doing OK on the boards but needs an offensive jumpstart, he may use it as a "microwave" for the offense. It will work better if Paige and the other guards (Ashlynn and KK in particular) get more than their share of rebounds.

I don't see Coach doing anything differently in the Georgetown matchup. No point in overreacting to one game. ND just had a hot shooting night and executed well out there and we did not. It happens. You just regroup, watch the tape, and learn from the game film and from the coaching staff and get back out there to compete.

Yes, Kelsey is a fun player to watch, and in her fifth season is better than ever. She's always been a strong defender (last year's BE co-DPOY) and this year has learned to shoot better... averaging 21.1. G'town has little else offensively to threaten the Huskies, so I'd expect Geno will have double duty on her whenever possible.

It's time to move Jana up and challenge her to do the job. Ice is not a center. She is a forward and she should back up Sarah, but not be in the middle. We need a new Tina Charles...... lets get on with it....

Players pay more attention after a loss. Geno will hammer them on things he’s already been saying but were exposed against ND. And they will concentrate on addressing some of those things.
True but let's not forget that it was the maestro himself who stated almost proudly in an video interview not long ago that without fail he likes and prefers losses especially early in the season. Sure not every coach feels the same but it certainly is a way to get attention.

Most important is UCONN's Big 3. As Geno mentioned in his presser, Azzi was needed. The Big 3 need to play a lot of time together. This time off Azzi has is stunting the growth for this team. Not blaming her ofc. Her health has to be #1 concern but this team is not a December team. Far from it. But Azzi needs to play and work with her fellow teammates as quickly as possible and play many minutes. Not just 20.

You know, we can beat on Georgetown and all the other BE teams, but if we want to regain any national credibility, we have to beat Iowa State and USC. Those are our home games, and if we cannot beat these teams than we will again end up with a 3 seed in the tournament. Everybody out there knows the BE is weak and being unbeaten in the league means nothing to the outside world, so it is critical that Geno gets the team going, including Jana, with some fire going forward. So, if Paige has to get on some players than that's what she should do. No more nice Paige if the players aren't pulling their weight. This is big time college basketball, so if you can't play that way then you don't deserve PT. BUT, players must be given the chance to show what they can do, like Allie and Jana.

I think the “Sarah and four guards” will be much more prevalent once Audrey is ready to play.

Geno has to make one change if Azzi isn’t playing. That is putting KK into the starting lineup. Sorry but our two guard should be netting at least 12 points a game. We have a loaded roster but we do not have speed or quickness. Since UConn plays in the dreadful Big East Conference the team will get minutes and experience.

KK can take the ball inside, but it often is just to shoot and not to pass. Also, I want to see her take a pull-up jump shot inside. Ash can do that but missed one time against ND and then that was it. Azzi is phenomenal with her put-up jump shot. I’d like to see more of Q; not sure if she isn’t showing in practice or if there are just too many other options, but she just isn’t getting much playing time.

Two things Im looking forward to seeing that Geno mentioned in his post game comments.
Playing Sarah and 4 guards. Now I know some are thinking we need height to get rebounds and I would say this. Paige does a pretty good job rebounding when shes playing the 3 or 4. One other point is Hidalgo had a bunch of rebounds against us and shes 5'6 . Now that may not always happen but she did it so we know it can be done.

The other comment Geno made was that we need to create more 3 pt opportunities and then work on making them. Based on our roster that tells me that Sarah and 4 guards could be an added advantage in doing that. Against ND 2 of our 3 pt shooters (Azzi and Caroline) were on the bench. If we had those 2 things wouldve been different. But we dont so does that mean Allie and Morgan see more time?

To hit more 3 pt shots takes alot of work and practice. It doesnt happen just like that. We do know Allie is a very good 3 pt shooter as is Azzi and Q. So we will see how Geno handles that. I dont expect to see Azzi against GTown and we may not see her against Iowa St either. I do hope shes ready for USC and I also hope The Griff is ready to play against USC. Mean while we need to get kids like Q Allie and Morgan ready with improvements in their games.

Another thing Geno mentioned is we need more scorers. That means to me we need everybody else to be looking to score and understand how they will score. Against LVille Ash hit some nice pull up jumpers. We need more of that. Morgan doing that too. KK would benefit from pull up jumpers instead of over penetrating. So against GTown I would like to see some of this. We've got the players unfortunately some are injured or lack inexperience and thats why we dont see them in a game like ND and may not see them get much playtime against Iowa St or USC. Against GTown is a good time to work on these things. Then maybe we will see it against Iowa St.

Again Geno mentioned we need more scorers Lets see how this plays out against GTown

We will be tracking Geno's 4 guard, + Sarah strategy which is probably the better matchup against GTown.
Balance that mix against Ice and Jana on the floor who definitely need more playing time. Will be interesting to see how the minutes v performance breaks down with the combinations.

I love Coach and his pressers. He says a lot without saying a lot. For example, the whole "We need more scorers" line. We got scorers. He wants them to go and attack. Stay aggressive even if you shot isn't falling. Keep attacking. We just could not get the shots we normally make, fall. We need our sweet Ashlynn to keep being aggressive out there with her shot. If that shot isn't falling. Drive to the rack and get some layups and hopefully get fouled and get some free-throws. Some players get warmed up that way.

Like I said in a previous post, I don't see Coach doing too much based on one game. He might go with the Sarah and 4 guards idea in segments, just depends on the how game is going. GTown, for whatever reason, these past few years have made playing them look rough. Like watching a middle school game. We shall see what develops.

The bench has some good shooters too; if the usual players aren’t shooting or scoring, maybe try others

Just for the heck of it how bout this lineup in a few weeks Paige Sarah Azzi Aubrey Kaitlyn/KK/Shade

Maybe the best for games before Christmas, I want Geno to work on Jana and Morgan. If you are suggesting Azzi/Ash and Kaitlyn/KK share playing time, you have Aubrey starting?

The Georgetown game will be a "practical quiz" of what Geno & CD emphasized in practice since the uNd game. She who was paying attention, and is focused on executing the plan without taking their foot off of the gas. This is NOT a change for Geno (or CD)

It will be an opportunity to "audition" for game time vs. ISU & USC Trojans.

Hopefully all of the Huskies pass the practical quiz with flying colors!

Go Huskies!!!

I like the point made above about Ash driving to the basket. If she
get fouled two good things happen: 1. more fouls on the opponents and
2. Ash is an EXCELLENT free throw shooting. So, if the shots behind
the arc are not falling.... DRIVE, DRIVE, DRIVE... Points and confidence!
GO ASH! Of course: everybody eats. The wins that come this season are
a TEAM EFFORT. But we need an effective AZZI and/or Ash to make
the "team" effort more balanced! P.S. Ash driving might also be
a prelude to some very effective " kicking out" to the three-point line.

as to #5: I agree to play Azzi IF she is healthy. I don't like her starting, however. Ash starting gets her involved and when she is involved, her shots fall, and she crashes the boards, hard. Can anyone else in the country bring in an Azzi quality player off the bench?

How about Paige, Azzi, Morgan, Sarah and Jana? the ultimate team
Morgan Cheli, 5 points, 2/2 shooting, 1/1 three pointer, in 18 minutes of
playing time. Five REBOUNDS, three assists, + three steals. With a +/-
of + 22! (I consider anything above 15 as good, but I don't have
a reference for an exact way to consider this stat, any help on that would be
appreciated!). Some of her fouls seemed unfortunate, i.e. that one on
her doing a nice job boxing out, but called due to Morgan falling back on the Hoya
lady? One cannot criticize her for lack of hustle! I loved her bounce
pass to ALLIE Z. on a transition play basket, a difficult dime. Morgan is
6'2" and to my eyes has long arms... talk about "length". If she is ever
needed as a ball handler (as she was in H.S. for Archbishop Mitty H.S.)
she would have a nice advantage for HIGH LOW entry passes. Go Morgan,
GO HUSKIES!
