Please remember - Do not speculate about any players entering the portal - ever. It’s not allowed on the Boneyard. It is OK to discuss players already in the portal.

Does Geno look for another player and, if so, what position? I see that Skylar Forbes is in the portal and that has me wondering if Geno might be interested

For those of you experts, what are your thoughts on either Lara Somfai and Kimora Johnson? What would they add that we don't have right now?
As has been discussed on several other BY threads, Somfai’s final 3 schools were Stanford, Duke & UConn. She supposedly had a great trip to UConn and wanted to come here, but her father wanted her to go to Stanford.

Somfai is a big with a nice shooting touch from 3, who also lead Stanford in rebounds. She was born in Hungary, grew up in Australia and was a teammate of Kelis Fisher at IMG Academy.

I think it is more likely that Kymora Johnson goes to South Carolina. Dawn mentioned needing guard help after yesterday's loss. UConn already has small guards with KK, Kelis, K9, and Jovana. Somfai would be a nice addition. She's a versatile scorer and can rebound. You have to think with her interest in UConn last year, there would be interest.

Just repeating myself - Geno should take a look at Forbes

We need a big that can score and compliment Jana. Someone who goes up strong and can take being double-teamed. I do not know who that would be. Footwork is important too.

Also, please remember a few things:

1 - be respectful to any players that enter the portal, as we have no idea of the reasons
2 - for anyone that's a member of The Burner, DO NOT post anything in the BY that's behind the paywall, or it will go poof (on both ends)

We will need scorers now that Azzi is gone. At least one more. We will also need a big to compliment Blanca Sarah Jana and Olivia. that can rebound and score. Morgan is coming off an injury and may need time to get going. Allie is one scorer and I expect Allie KK Kayleigh and Ashlynn to step up next season. Dont forget the players from overseas who Geno has been looking at. There are top teams that will be vying for top talent and many already have a good roster. The portal has changed everything. Some players will go where they will get playtime, some of money, some to win a Natty and Im sure all come into play. Remember not all really good players will go pro and some may go overseas to play too. A lot going on over the next few weeks and Im sure the coaches know more about where the portal players want to go.

I would agree. IMO, Forbes and Somfai are the only two on this list that could have an impact/fit in UConn's system. Mobility, passing ability, and playing through contact are required for bigs and much needed on the current roster. They're very similar players however, Somfai has 3 years of eligibility compared to 1 for Forbes.

Somfai is a possibility, but not necessarily an obvious choice. In her first year she got playing time that probably would have been significantly less here. Looking at her overall numbers I would consider her first year mildly disappointing. Clearly a good player that probably will get better, and would be an upgrade over Ayanna, and of course Ice may not even be available for next season.

So yes she could help us by being a rotation level backup to Sarah at the 4, but if that is the only role would she be interested? The bigger question might be how else she could be used. Because of Olivia's recruitment and Jana presumably continuing an upward progression. there may not be minutes available at the 5, but if Lara makes a significant leap there could be.

The other opportunity would be by being so good, Geno could justify using her at the 4 with Sarah at the 3. that would open up more minutes for her too. Just being a backup to the player of the year is a pretty limited role. To get more she probably needs to be better than Jana and get some minutes there, or alternatively be better than Morgan or any of the guards as a backup to Blanca at the 3, with Sarah sliding over.

Another factor is how it affects recruiting. We are recruiting two talented 6-3 PF types in the 2027 class. Lara has two more years after the next one, so it could reduce our chances with those recruits. A strong case could be made for a one year rental to improve our backup 4 issue, and hopefully with a player that could get more minutes by competing at the 5 or allowing Sarah to play more at the 3. Addy Brown from Iowa state might be interesting from that standpoint.

She could play the 4 with Sarah at the 3 IMO, and of course get the pure backup 4 minutes. She is probably the best potential 4 for us, and is an exceptional passer and can shoot the 3. Right now I think Addy is significantly better than Lara, but Lara may be as good when she is a senior.

As for others, I like Akot from Oklahoma State, a bouncy 4 maybe a little like Aubrey, but I see she has a don't contact designation. Baker from Virginia Tech could be a solid 4 backup and Ii believe is from West Hartford. There is a 6-3 girl from Maryland, Mamado or something like that, and Lara's teammate at Stanford that is 6-2, Agara I think. Anyway that player might be better than Lara now but would be a one year rental.

Of course there are bigger names like Crooks or Cooper, but I don't see either as a good fit for the Uconn program and what we have now.

I’m not sure what’s not to like about Somfai. 29% shooting from 3 is not great. But as a freshman with really nice form and a quick release, that’s bound to get better. Beyond that, she’s got a really nice inside game. She’s a good passer and defender and most importantly, lead Stanford in rebounding.

I was Thinking the same thing. Tough call. Geno is not fond of Big East Wbb losing good players to the portal. Would he then turn around and take one of them?
Considering Geno's comments on the transfer portal I would be surprised if he doesn't have a "anywhere but the Big East policy" for transfers. The "Geno is a hypocrite" articles would most likely pop up if he did take a Big East transfer and it would be difficult to argue that they wouldn't be wrong.

I also think her game would seamlessly fit into the UCONN game which I think is even more important. We were very lucky in 3 prior transfer players in Dorka, Lou 2, and KC but it is not always as effective as anticipated as we have seen this year. It is often a matter of chemistry and blending to a large extent. We clearly need rebounding help so I think that should be the emphasis and Somfai checks all the boxes.

Agreed. If Geno is considering Forbes and/or Somfai (and we don’t even know that he is) he’d have to decide if he wants a more polished, but shorter term, player vs one with potential. Me, I’d go with Forbes but I have zero championships and watch games from my couch

And I would bet, with absolutely no inside knowledge whatsoever, that if Geno was going to take a BE player, he'd reach out to the coach first. However, just like HuskyNan, I'm opining this from my dining room table, so there's that.

Why NO mention of Ice Brady on the blog. She will come back from injury and can be a help at PF.
