That Gonzaga was the most over-rated #1seed in the history of the tourney.
You don't pick #1 seeds based on what is politically correct.

I was really hoping Georgetown would be a one seed to witness history

They would eliminate the West Region if politics allowed it. Rename it "The other side of the Mississippi"

I thought it was a joke they were #1 in the polls. But the polls are political. The seeding committee shouldn't have their hands tied by the polls, but can you imagine the cries of outrage if they had not made the #1 team a #1 seed?

On a side note, I think that chick that plays for Gonzaga is better than the guy that plays for the Baylor womens team.

One day we will find that Brittney Griner is a man

I guarantee it

And you will all say ..... woops I guess I missed that

It is a farce.

.-.
What --- is with you losers bashing Griner? And a dude with long hair.

G-d. You seem like such a couple of knuckle draggers with that crap.

Grow up.

Relax man the BY is about fun and opinion, with a little creativity mixed in.......damn!

Next year when we are in the Tourney you will see less of this in March. Everyone is pissed off and looking for targets to shoot. Give them a pass.

It'd be fine to smack Griner around a bit if she gets annoying though right?

Welcome to the board Doug Gottlieb!

Listen, the Zags deserved a 1 seed and got matched up against a great team that probably was a little underseeded at 9. Maybe you don't think they deserved a 1 seed...I think they did.

Since 1979 there have been now 19 teams 1 seeds to lose in the second round

1979: UNC lost to Penn (72-71)
1980: Depaul lost to UCLA (77-71)
1981: Depaul lost to St. Joseph's (49-48)
1981: Oregon State lost to KSU (50-48)
1982: Depaul lost to Boston College (82-75)
1985: Michigan lost to Villanova (59-55)
1986: St. John's lost to Auburn (81-65) ---- candidate for worst loss
1990: Oklahoma lost to UNC (79-77)
1992: Kansas lost to UTEP (66-60)
1994: UNC lost to BC (75-72)
1996: Purdue lost to Georgia (76-69)
1998: Kansas lost to URI (80-75)
2000: Stanford lost to UNC (60-53)
2000: Arizona lost to Wisconsin (66-59)
2002: Cincinnati lost to UCLA (105-101 in OT)
2004: Kentucky lost to UAB (76-75)
2004: Stanford lost to Alabama (70-67)
2010: Kansas lost to Northern Iowa (69-67)

and now 2013: Gonzaga loses to Wichita State

Depaul failed to get to the Sweet 16 3 years in a row as a 1 seed?!

(Also notable that in the first of those years, Syracuse lost as a 1 seed in the Sweet 16. Some things never change.)

Yeah, I was gonna mention Depaul. Amazing.

Also of note: UNC, Kansas, and Stanford were all there multiple times. It happened twice in 2000 (Stanford, Arizona). Also no UConn.

Wichita St scored 23 points on its final 9 possessions, which is outrageous. For a defensively-built WSU team, it was like an out-of-body experience.

They shot an ungodly percentage from 3. Must have been pure adrenaline. If they didn't score after the TO by Stockton, Gonzaga might have won. But I think WSU got 6 points in about 20 seconds there: from down 2 to up 4.

And as pointed out Bell was out most of the 2nd half or I believe they advance.........they deserved, on paper, the #1 seed and they were a damn good basketball team!!

Thing is, those jokes a) are barely funny b) aren't creative at all. If you want to defend humor and creativity, then start with something that is actually funny or creative.
Ah now that was funny albeit not creative!:)

I agree.

It's too simple - Gonzaga lost so now they are the 'most overrated one-seed in history'. I think this group of one-seeds are about as weak as I can remember, but then again, so are the two-seeds and I can't think of one that I would want to bump up over Gonzaga.

Georgetown got jacked out of the building by a #15 seed - no one is screaming that Georgetown was an overrated 2-seed because Georgetown fits into their preconceived notions better than Gonzaga does. Georgetown 'belongs' while Gonzaga doesn't. (UConn football suffers from that sort of thing - expansion is 'about football', but most of the programs who have moved are no better than we are...they're just older.)

Gonzaga just happened to get beaten - Wichita was out of their minds from the three (14-28) and they were allowed to knocked Olynyk around a bit and they pulled off an upset.

It happens.

Yeah, but there was one pretty large upset back in the day with UConn as a 1 seed...a game I shall not mention, but we all know it too well :(

Good post. Besides Louisville and Indiana, the other top seeds were decided on by who sucked the least; usually its who is actually better. Gonzaga deserved a #1 seed, and they earned it. They weren't overrated. Besides Miami, no other team deserved a #1 seed unless if Duke won the ACC tourney. But just by doing some quick thinking, I think Gonzaga is definitely the weakest 1 seed in recent memory.

Gonzaga is hurt every year by their weak conference schedule. The last six weeks of the season, they play weak opponents and lose their competitive edge.

I don't see this at all. Morrison's teams didn't lose to slouches. That '99 team that UConn played in the regional finals looked like it had more than enough competitive edge to go around.
