Why is the Big East terrible for UConn and where should UConn go instead?

For anyone who still doesn’t think the Big East is corrupt and awful, St. John’s only had 41 free throws tonight.

"All the refs are out to get UConn."

Can you see how ridiculous that looks?

St. John's has 72 free throws in their past two games. UConn and Xavier combined for 36.

Not just a joke, but one that will circle back on them, and the Big East, in the tournament.
THIS!

The Big East the sports equivalent of a corrupt third world country.

You want a hot take?

I think we should go back to the AAC.

Finally, an honest Big East-hater. There are several posters here that could learn from your example.

I still have no idea why you believe this about everyone here, even with that one guy’s take.

Logic would tell you that complaining about our current situation does not translate to desiring the worst scenario either.

You can recognize that the Big East is not a viable long-term destination for UConn aspirationally and financially (AD David Benedict could tell you that) while also recognizing it was right to move here from the god-forsaken American. There’s no contradiction.

People “hate” because it is a forum. That’s where people air out frustration.

I don’t mind people hating on the Realignment Board, but it gets very annoying when a few posters hijack every thread on the Basketball Board with CR rants when UConn is having a great season across the three major sports.

My other issues are:

1) posters turning everything into an anti-Big East thread. I had a thread about how the SEC appears to have successfully gamed the efficiency ratings that got locked because the same posters would not allow a discussion of any conference topic be anything other than an anti-Big East diatribe.

2) these same posters get angry when any CR scenario other than the complete collapse of the Big East is discussed.

3) these same posters attack me and others when non-Big East trends that could impact CR are brought up. College athletics is a professional sport now, and the fan connections to the schools are changing. Yet even the slightest hint that urban entities might have a place in college athletics causes people to lose their minds. For these posters, every topic has to be bent back to how it is bad for the Big East.

These posters hate the Big East. We get it. Not sure why they need to keep telling us how much they hate it in threads that are only peripherally related to the Big East.

I can at the very least agree that the focus should be more on winning double national championships and beating Bill Belichick at the Rent right now over our conference situation as much as I don’t like it.

Winning double national championships means way more to me than beating Bill and his college girlfriend. No one will even remember that but winning both men’s and women’s basketball championship will be remembered.

Since we are doing breakdowns of National Champions...

UConn's 2014 National Championship remains the only National Championship by a school outside of the major conferences since UNLV's championship in 1990. Prior to that, Louisville (1980 and 1986) and Marquette (1977) were the only other National Championships going back to Texas Western in 1967. That makes 5 schools that did it in almost 60 years, and an argument could be made that the Metro should be considered a major conference, which would take Louisville's titles off the list. Even with the tighter definition, Kevin Ollie did something no other coach has done in 35 years (and counting), and only 3 other coaches, all of whom are in the Hall of Fame, have done in 58 years (and counting).

Something to consider for the Big East bashers who think there is no difference between the A10 or AAC and Big East.
The AAC IN 2014
Contained , Louisville (Pitino) SMU( Larry Brown)Houston (Sampson ), UCF , Cincinnati ,plus Memphis was a traditional basketball school
What remained after the C7 left was never a big problem at the top
It was probably a stronger conference than the NBE but NOVA saved them from oblivion.
Without Nova NC plus our return and success they’re latest media deal would have been a disaster .
In retrospect AAC BB schools at the bottom were the main problem
East Carolina, Tulsa , and Tulane were poor basketball adds
Keeping them as football onlies and adding 2-3 basketball schools and it’s a game changer .
All the old AAC teams seem to be performing well in power conferences
Which speaks volumes for how underrated that conference was because Aresco didn’t promote basketball in pursuit of his power football conference delusion.
We were never in the current AAC which pillaged CUSA to survival so those comparisons are moot.
We’re never going back to this AAC unless it’s football only but I doubt they want us.
I’m not convinced the current Big East schools want to compete in the current big money era ,if true that’s a problem going forward .The past really doesn’t matter as the game has changed.

Was saying that just to represent my excitement for this football season.
