In recording today's Dishin & Swishin podcast, Anucha Browne told me the ESPN catchphrase will go from "three to see" to "need to know."

Five players will be featured initially, which can be changed over the season to add more. Those five will be unveiled on the podcast (I need to keep a little mystery).

So my question to you members of the Boneyard, who are the five players you "need to know" for this year's college basketball season and why?

The podcast will go live around 3 pm ET on www.hoopfeed.com, and will also include several new changes to the postseason that are coming out of committees this week.

Cheryl Reeve of the Minnesota Lynx kicks off the podcast.

In switching from "3 to see" to a new phrase, does this imply that ESPN is again looking to feature/highlight graduating seniors so that they can promote their transition to the pros? Or is this a wide open process that includes later classes?

No, not just seniors. Good stories to be told is what they were looking for Anucha said.

I have to imagine they will be spread out to interest the whole country.

Chiney (she makes her team middle of the PAC to Potential contenders for a final four),

Simms (The best point guard in America, similar to Chiney),

Stewie (Best player in America if she plays like she did in Tournament),

Thomas ( athletic, versatile player on a talented team),

and Elizabeth Williams (one of the top post players on one of the top teams)

I do believe KML could easily be in this top 5 but I do feel like we "need to know" players from other teams, at least initially, but I'm sure KML will impress her way to this 5.

Crystal Bradford is a great option too.

Nice list - maybe Achunwa (sp?) from ND instead of Williams?
I think I would prefer them choosing KML rather than Stewie from Uconn because Stewie doesn't need the pressure as a sophomore though she is maybe a little more unique.

I would go with Achonwa over Williams. Remember Kiah shut down Williams big time.

Yet another oversight of Morgan Tuck.

Not expecting Tuck to be a starter, had to limit it to five! Didn't overlook her, but it's hard when there are so many great players....

Based on First Night and what we saw of Jefferson at the end of last season, I think she's going to be a very popular player for the next three years...

This may be just me, but in terms of storylines, I am most interested in Kiah's development. Plus, no one is talking about Morgan which makes me interested to see her development. By and large, the Huskies are going to overwhelm most every team. Defense and rebounding are going to be big in those games against good teams that are playing well. With Stef and Stewie playing on the perimeter more frequently (IMHO), I think if Kiah and Morgan can become ferocious rebounders, it is game over.

ESPN isn't going to pick either of those two. Outside of Storrs, I'd pick A. Thomas (I'm a Terp). ND and Duke are going to be compelling teams so maybe someone from those squads.

IMHO Kayla McBride is definitely a player to see. I also suspect with the success that Louisville had in the tournament that Shoni Schimmel will also be on ESPN's list.

My list will only include seniors because of I think ESPN is using this to market the WNBA draft and next years WNBA Season.

Chiney, Sims, Kayla McBride, Shoni Schimmel and Alysa Thomas. Stef and Bria may not make the list as I suspect that Stewie and KML will get most of the attention. If a UConn player is added, then it will probably be Stef.

ESPN should have stuck with a rhyme instead of going for a weak alliteration.

I actually found out when I asked her is this year going to be "five to thrive"!

BTW, they aren't all seniors, Wbbfan1

I think Stef might be heavily marketed because of her personality. She should be, anyway.

And the podcast is live here:

Cheryl Reeve is first on the Lynx (great stuff on Maya, by the way) and then Anucha on the rule changes, the tournament changes announced just now, and of course the "Need to know" players.

The five.... KML, Stewie, Thomas, Sims and Ogwumike. Others may be featured as the season develops.

Great stuff, David. Thanks again.

I liked what you said about Reeve being unafraid to get in the face of her superstars during games (tho I do think she might have her own "precious"). Let's face it, she probably did it to Maya more than any of the other Lynx players. There are some who saw that as a sign of weakness in Maya's game; I saw it as a sign of strength in Maya's character. Mechelle Voepel recently said Maya is a star without star attitude.

I liked your question to Anucha about the east coast being left out of regional hosting. Her answer didn't address your point, but glad you raised it.

Agree. Her answer on the regional sites was a non-answer. I think they know they screwed up but we're going to have to live with it this year. Will be interesting to see how many of the four hosts make it into the Final Four.

I don't think I'd choose Achonwa over Williams. She really gave up on herself and her team in both final four games I've seen her in. But maybe I'm not seeing the right games for Achonwa. McBride would be a better option over for me personally.

KML over Stewie makes sense but Stewie's performance in the tournament has had a stronger impact on people than KML's season....which is weird.

Can't think of anyone to be 1 of 5. I would rather see transition throughout the year. Repetitiveness is a turn off and ruins the general comportment of the programming.
