Which UConn Player Do You Wish You Had Seen Live

Hrubala played after the other 3 I believe. The Spider, one of my all time favorites, Nobody played harder. 6'2" power forward

I saw Spider playing when I attended UConn. He got his name from his long arms, used to defend and jar the ball loose from opponents.

He actually had a good outside shot, but as I remember, not a jump shot, but more of a conventional one hand set shot(not an unusual shot that even a pro like Dolph Schayes would take in that general time period).

Was fortunate to see most of the best players and teams in that era

Happy Super Bowl Sunday! I was thinking about UConn players I wish I had seen live and decided to ask other Boneyarders the same question. For me, it’s Art Quimby. At 6’5”, three straight seasons averaging over 20 rebounds per game. In 1954-55, he averaged 23.2 points and 24.4 rebounds per game. Was anybody on the BY alive to see this incredible performance?

I honestly don't know what happened back then and I assumed you did. That's why I asked you. I can't stand Chuck and wanted to know the facts.

I watched a head to head matchup of Corny vs. Sly Williams(Rhode Island) at the New Haven Coliseum. Corny won the battle by a hair.

Two very skilled players. Sly went on to play for the Knicks if I recall.

Was at that game also. Real battle on the boards. Wasn’t the story that Sly was on the train to Providence but somehow got off early and went to visit URI and ended up going there instead?

Seems like there aren’t too many people on this board who actually saw Quimby play. My dad entered UConn in the fall of 1955 so he barely missed Quimby. He was friendly with Bill Schmidt, Al Cooper and Wayne Davis.

This 2014 story from the Waterbury Republican, mentions the loss where St. Thomas Aquinas double and triple-teamed him.
