Probably 4 or 5 years. He'll get them back to relevance and then they'll try for a long-term hire. Just a guess. I wouldn't be surprised if Pitino pulled a Final Four out of them... he's a really, really good coach.
Legendary Coach, Legendary POS. Pitino doesn't half ass anything.

Pitino will have an affect on anyone recruiting anywhere
He couldn't lure the top players to Iona BUT he can at St Johns
He will get some interesting assistant coaches who will also attract the players
Don't kid yourselves

I'm on board with those saying this is good for the BE and rises all boats. There were plenty of recruits to go around when the BE was in its heyday, keep more NY/NJ/NE players in this area. Pitino will generate interest, TV $$ - I hope UConn's game against St. John's next year is on CBS at MSG.

And agree with those saying that if you have to pick a school nearby for a negative impact it is Syracuse - they've joined BC in the irrelevancy death spiral.

I am struggling to find a downside to this. Either Pitino raids the transfer portal like a 10th century viking and pulls in a massive new roster and makes St. Johns competitive immediately, in which case the Big East benefits. Or he is a spectacular failure and we get to point and laugh at St. Johns some more. This is the definition of win/win, and a lot more fun than whatever nobody that Providence is going to get.

3 teams in final 4 next week. Georgetown and St. Johns back in top 25 next year. 2023/24 could be epic year for the BE. No one in BE negatively affected, maybe some southern Canada team and/or BCU as the ACC sinks in both football and Naismith's game.

They better hope Armstrong and Hausen develop.
That's my pick other than Providence for the most hurt by Cooley to Georgetown and Pitino to St. John's. Nova went from having the best coach in the country to the most unproven coach in the Big East along with Stubblefield at DePaul and Neptune is getting off to a really bad start. Overwhelming majority of their recruits come from a 3 hour radius of DC.

Did we ever lose a recruit to St John's? Did we ever really want a St John;s recruit?

I mean Chris Mullins played like 40 years ago. I think we're looking for different kids, not sure Pitino changes that much

I do think he'll be more successful in the transfer portal

Sid Wilson? UCONN was one of his final 3 and obviously he transferred over later.

Nomar knows, he was joking. Everyone loves Louie but he's not top 25. From a pure coaching standpoint Pitino is as good as anyone who has ever coached college basketball. He turns teams around in an instant.
He's only won 71% of his games. :)

Didn’t we take Doug Wiggins from St. John’s?

I just wanted to point out that Louie is still alive -- 98!
