Where will UConn come in on ESPN's 50 in 50?

Why are you guys so enamored with Louisville. It seems like even boneyarders don't give UConn enough respect. We have won THREE National Championships since 1999. And what the heck has Kansas done that puts them ahead of us? Oh, that's right Phog Allen, Wilt Chamberlain and Danny Manning. We have Jim Calhoun, Ray Allen and Kemba Walker. I'll take our 3. The heck with it, WE SHOULD BE #1!

Some people have perspective and a clue. This poster is not one of them.

How are we #9 and Cuse #8?... Big title disparity.

9 isn't so bad. Can't see Cuse actually ahead of us as they only have one champioship, but the early years pull us down a bunch. I love the live "Connecticut has the most championships since 1999!"

Just for some perspective, if we beat ISU last year and Lamb went #10 instead of #11 and we scored 0 points instead of -5 in the 80s, we would be ahead of Cuse.

Our score from the 1960's was 14th best. I was kinda surprised to see this. Everyone likes to say we have no history but that is clearly not true.

It was the scores from the middle years that really pulled us down the most.

The 80's killed UConn, but ahead of the Cuse in three of the timebreaks shown.

.-.
Louisville moved ahead of Indiana. Unlikely, but it would be funny as hell if they got in front of UK. Would love to browse UK boards after that.

I was just about to say the same thing. I'm pretty sure we made an elite 8 and a sweet 16 in the 60's. We also picked up 17 Yankee Conference titles so clearly the school has history before JC. But JC took it to a whole other level!!

The Dom Perno years. Nice guy, but it is hard to imagine someone doing less with Corny Thompson and Mike McKay...oh yeah and guard named Karl Hobbs (although at the time I like Dulin more.)

Damn, I knew Louisville was going to be the highest BE team but I didn't expect 547 points.

The poll values longevity and that Cuse has. If NC were given a greater weight then we'd pass them. No big deal. Polls like this are just something to occupy the time until the season starts.

Cuse just had a huge lead in the 80's. UConn spotted them 109 points.

Interestingly, if this didn't include last year, UConn would have had the lead. Both programs are very close on overall history, at this point and time. It just shows how far UConn has come in the last 25+ years. Cuse will, of course, expand their lead this coming year. After that it really comes down to how the future coaches do, once the Jims hang them up.

8 points is just not that much. And, they're only 19 points behind Indiana.

They're closer to Indiana than Arizona is to them.

Interestingly, Syracuse is never in the Top 10 for a decade (UConn is twice), and they are only in the Top 15 twice (UConn 3 times). But they also never had a negative points decade.

Yes, we lost to Dook in the Elite 8 in 1964. Beat Temple and Princeton along the way. I think that was quite the cinderella run at the time.

Looks like the sweet 16 trip was from 1956.

Also read this in the UConn Basketball Vault book - We were one of the first schools to bring a Pep Band to basketball games. I think our Atheletic Director / Coach saw this at Dook and wanted to recreate the atmosphere. People started to refer to us as the "Duke of the North". Kinda glad that nickname didnt stick around.

I'll trade a deacde of sucking for 2 decades of dominance 10 times out of 10 times. Only list that matters to me is "Number of Championships." Here's to hoping the next 50 years are as good as the last.

Ask any logical Syracuse fan ( good luck finding one) if they would like to trade our history with theirs. And I ask again, WTF did Louisville do that was so special to put them ahead of us. I have been folloowing college hoops since Toby Kimball and I don't get it. I am so sick of ESPN and their our poop doesn't stink attitude. You would think being located in Ct they would favor us but they go out of their way to dis us.
One more thing, if Calhoun comes back next year he is absolutely going to be loded for bear.

You want ESPN to change the past so UConn could be a spot higher on some blog's list of top 50 teams? OK.

I think the important number was that UConn is 6th since the Jim Calhoun era and 51st before. Considering our location, lack of a brand name before Calhoun arrived, and lack of media bias (Puke/UNC/Kentucky/Kansas) among other factors, the way Jim Calhoun has developed this program from mediocrity makes him one of the 10 greatest coaches of all time.

Not trying to flame but what do you mean by this line. The team has been gutted by graduation, the draft and people leaving because of the sanctions. What the heck is Calhoun going to do? Maybe I don't get your meaning.

He shoulda left with Kemba but I respect him more for staying.

So, I just don't see how you aren't impressed. Compare
National Titles: UConn wins, 3-2
Final Fours: Louisville wins, 8-4
Elite Eights: Louisville wins, 11-10
Sweet 16s: Louisville wins, 22-15
Tournament Appearances: Louisville wins 35-24
Conference Titles, Regular Season: Louisville wins, 21-16
Conference Titles, Tournament: Louisville wins, 15-7
I think that we have had a great run, and are historically in the same ballpark as them. But I think anyone who looked at it objectively thought they would come out ahead of us in this survey.
I'm still shocked about Syracuse, though (2 fewer titles, 2 fewer elite 8s, 4 more S16s, 12 more tourneys, 6 fewer conference titles, 2 fewer conference tourney titles).

The formula they used is the one they used -- unless you're accusing them of assigning point values to make sure that this result was achieved, which is pretty silly. It was an objective measurement. While the factors used could be tweaked, I think they are more than reasonable.
