When do we see Bouk back?

Ok. Here’s the deal with Bouknight:

he wants to play and I have no idea if anyone is advising him to sit but if so he is not listening to that.
He is practicing now, just not full contact. He wants to be back for the seton hall game but Hurley is intent on him having a few full contact practices first. Like it or not, Hurley doesn’t want to play anyone if they don’t have a few real practices first. Expect him back for Providence game.

Thanks Kenny11 for finally some solid info. That would be great - even earlier than the return I expected vs Xavier.

Talk about not being as bad as it could have been! If Bouk is back for PC, he will have missed 6 games. If we can pull off a win against SHU, the team will be 4-2 over that stretch. I'll take that all day! Heck, I can even live with 3-3.

That is a reference to Henry V the play by Shakespeare. It is the origin of the band of brothers reference. It was also the origin of the strategy to attack the zone defense. According to legend English archers shot high arching shots over the top of the French shields rather than trying to go straight at them. I believe that King Harry taught suggested this strategy to Jim Calhoun prior to the 1986 Syracuse game😉

Thanks K. Finally some clarity and should give his teammates a lift once fully back. Let's keep working on AA's return and get AJax back on the court.

All of the growing pains in Bouk's absence can only help for the Tournament run. Give us some games to play and let's lace 'em up. Great timing for a busy stretch of games starting with SH game.

Be that as it may, the lion's share of passion in this thread is directly linked to great distaste for one poster's efforts to gain agreement that an unverified and controversial speculation tilts heavily to a conclusion of bad character. In that context, your, 'slow thy roll' message felt off point.

I regard whether it applies elsewhere as an open matter.

.-.
this, and the other quadrillion threads aboot 'L'Affaire du Bouknight' -full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.
guy accidentally sits on james left bow hinge. ouch.
docs look at it, call waste management, get rid of the trash there.
say '4 to 6 weeks' from mid january.
prognosis for recovery? he's 20, and can't even grow a righteous beard yet.
i like his chances. a lot.
and speaking of obvious, anyone notice the seeming acne attack ol' ajax is dealing with?
i certainly wouldn't be surprised if he grew six inches, or two feet, by his next game. lol.

I’ll go with the glass half empty mojo answer. NBA summer league. Seems to me that he was “shut down” by his camp. The numerous minor ailments probably scared them enough. Maybe some nba team gave them assurances that they wouldn’t pass on him if he was available in the first.

I get it for mojo reasons but Bouknight has zero worries about being a first round pick, it's about where he goes in the lottery.

The rehab process is very important for these injuries to recover the strength in the elbow. Let that play out first... we’ll hear more of it early February.
So, Monday then?
We'll know when they tell us, but the fact he was tossing around a ball with his left arm the other day sounds pretty positive.

Why do people get personally offended by pessimistic takes? He will turn out to be right or wrong, but the result will have had nothing to do with his prediction. I think people who jump down the throat of posters who express pessimistic predictions seem somewhat scared and unstable.
If you're looking for stability you might want to try another site..........

You sound very confident and that’s cool but you are not accurate.....respectfully

Since you have Bouk as lottery pick(not necessarily disagreeing with you).Does his play the rest of the year effect that positioning.. Or. Is he good without stellar play at year end and Tournament time based on potential for NBA scouts??

Serious question.

What part is not accurate? Respectfully.
I was thinking the same thing, why would you say this? Do you have evidence that he has not been accurate in the past? Serious question

That’s consistent with what Chief has been saying. James and his family are good people. Sure he’s your typical son or daughter college kid, like most of us were at that age. But, as with the incident his freshman year, Chief has his back. Always will. Don’t matter if they are a top 5 pick or a Nate Miles, that never is in doubt. Sure, Chief will call someone out, if they get back to the hotel at 3am before a noon game, but Jerome and Chief have patched that up as has Calhoun - and as adults we are tight.
Having said all that, there are advisors and @Kenny11 may be short selling them a little. I know some of them and they are good guys too, just doing what they think is in his best interest - the same thing when they steered him to UConn. When you think of the money on the table, to say just ignore that variable is silly. Chief’s position is for James not only to play but to come back his junior year. However, I won’t disrespect those who have his interest at heart but come to a different conclusion. This is not your normal season.

But that amounts to real money and intangibles like a team giving a really high pick playing time to prove they made the right choice. Again, Chief advocates that James should not only play out season but come back next year to do what’s in his best interest. Chief tells dudes NBA team don’t like guys who play mind games because the same dudes will play games with them. It’s best to play it straight to get the $’s. Chief knows some well intentioned advisors may disagree but where I sit I have seen over 30 years of numerous guys get good pay days in The League. Including, Rudy who wanted to come back after he changed his mind but couldn’t academically. Chief’s a business guy and I go by the numbers.

@Kenny11 posted on here about the surgery being for bone spurs a couple days before it came out publicly. So I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt unless you tell us why you would know better. You're from NY so maybe you know Bouknight personally?

That’s consistent with what Chief has been saying.

It doesn’t matter if the kid wants to play or not. It doesn’t matter if the coaches want the kid to play or not. He has to first be cleared to play by the Doctor. That 4-6 weeks time frame doesn’t just come from no where. And with a prospect of this caliber with what he has on the line u probably go the full 6 weeks. So if surgery was on the 12th of Jan. Then 6 weeks from that is the 23rd. Which is all likely hood is his clearance date. So I would expect him back anytime after that date. Most certainly not before.

I was curious about 2020 NBA lottery pick salaries. Public Info. For my ease only did #1#5#10#15#20.Wanted to look at impact of lottery position vs considering another season of CBB to improve lottery position/dollars.
#1 A.Edwards Yr 1 $9,757,440/ 4Yr Total $44,274,137
#5 I.Okoro 6,400,920/ 29,083,315
#10 J.Smith 4,245,920/ 19,328,334
#15C.Anthony 3,285,120/ 15,887,971
#20P.Achiuwa 2,582,160/ 12,513,127

Look — it is entirely rational to be more concerned about your professional future than it is winning college basketball games or having fun playing. It is also entirely rational to determine that you’ve set yourself up with enough money that playing for more, and risking getting less due to injury or performance, stops making sense. IF, and that’s a big if, that’s what Bouk is doing, he has every right to do it.

That having been said, you don’t achieve what he has achieved without desperately caring about competing and winning, and every NBA exec knows that at the end of the day a player who desperately wants to compete and win will be of a lot more value than one who is only worried about the green. Michael Jordan wasn’t the greatest ever because he protected his God given ability. He was the greatest ever because he combined that talent with a desperate desire to be the best on every single possession.

Not much more to be said. Book doesn’t owe anyone coming back, but not coming back will also be a message that GMs won’t forget down the road.

Thanks for your speculation based on absolutely no inside information. You can go take your seat in the corner now.

Completely spitballing here, but I would guess at this point he's likely to go in the #8-12 range.

I don't think his ceiling is much higher, maybe #5 or so, because while extremely talented, he's still a merely conventionally-sized 2-guard.

His floor is probably #20-25 if he comes back looking ordinary, tentative, or gets nicked up again and develops a reputation as fragile.

On balance, he probably has more to lose than to gain by playing again.

Don't disagree with anything you've said.. Wanted to see the numbers myself (which I could have done privately) and thought the BY might be as curious as I was.

Not going to get into the go or stay situation. It's a crazy year with unprecedented choices for talented players. As to whether he should or shouldn't play again this year if able? I would hope that a prideful athlete would want to perform with his teammates and have making a Tournament run on his bucket list.. Just me.

IMO.I think Bouk wants the opportunity to make some noise in the Tournament with his guys.

A question I have about JB at the next level.. Can his body .. As it is currently constructed.. Sustain the pounding it is going to get in the NBA by the players who will be banging on him or could another year with Coach Mike erase that issue?? To me it has never been an issue of talent .Some will argue its better to sit on the bench making 3M/yr and working with trainers/SnC guys of the teams. It's his call .
