When did you know?

Couple of add ons.

After PK in Oregon and rest of non-conference I knew they could win it all.

Even with their NCAA seeding I wasn’t worried. After first round win and Pitino's comments I was confident every game going forward.

Believed in the team after their run through the PK tournament. I had doubts in January, but still believed they could turn it around. I was nervous during the first half of the first round game. I was a little nervous as well, until Ducas went down in the St. Mary's game.

I think it was Arkansas for me.

This

The way they played down the stretch was encouraging. I was hopeful, but the dismantling of Arkansas reeled me in

Championship was a real possibility

Had to be the second weekend. When Arkansas and Gonzaga couldn’t even sniff us, the final four was an after thought. In a single elimination tournament, the best team doesn’t always cut down the nets. This year, the best team in the country surely did! The way we closed out the year, there wasn’t a team in America that would come close.

.-.
I knew we could win it all after bending over the PK

I knew we would (and this is the real point of the thread that I can tell people are missing) at half with Gonzaga. The same way I felt after we beat Nova in 2014

I'm not sure when I knew, but I was pretty confident after the Arkansas game.

Time to update my avatar from Kemba to 2023 UConn........ now.

I’d say Arkansas too.

Had way too much fun talking smack to all the SDSU fans in my section.

Made sure they all knew that the last time the guy whose jersey they were wearing (Kawhi) played for them they lost to us. Terrible mojo!

So Providence on $2 Beer Night, I felt that this team was deep into the return to form at the right time. Started saying the only team that can beat us is ourselves.

I wasn’t deterred by the Marquette game at MSG because I knew they were also very good and we played most the game without Andre etc.

Lead up to the tourney from Bracket Sunday on, I got worried because a TON of media talking heads liked us. Jay Bilas scared the poop out of me.

But being in Albany, down at the half to Iona and not being worried, I knew it was ours. And they matched what I felt in the 2nd Half and didnt look back.

Ah yes the Harrison twin massacre. Most satisfying win over UK/Squid of the two in the tourney. Watching their hyped backcourt absolutely terrorized by Bazz and Boat was beautiful.
That massacre was doubly fun as it seemed like a formality once we got by Florida. Everyone spent every second after the brackets came out talking about how strong Florida was and how our regular season game - which was ended dramatically by Bass I believe - was a lucky win at home on our part and couldn’t be replicated. Beautiful

and, with the exception of the Kentucky game, every game after we beat St Joe's the talking heads would say "they're facing an opponent that may be playing the best basketball in the tournament. This will end UConn's run".

.-.
When I saw Coach Calhoun talk to the team, I knew they were winning it all. They just seemed like all business. Like they knew.

I'm obviously a pessimist when it comes to UConn basketball. I was sure when Hawkins hit the three to go up 8 with just around 5 minutes left. That's when I turned to my wife and said "We got this."

You're an optimist, I waited 'till we went back up 12 with Newton's 4 points.

Alabama and Houston losing, with Kansas and Purdue having gone down already, made me think "holy s___, this is wide open and we have a legitimate shot." I think at that point we had already beaten Arkansas.

I started really thinking this team could do something after the Florida game. We had just ran five P5 teams off the court in a row. When's the last time UConn did that? Has UConn EVER done that? It feels like the last few years we had 1 great OOC win but then lost immediately after. Beat Auburn/lose to MSU and WVU. Beat USC but then a bunch of cancelled games and I think we came back to lose against Creighton in Bouknight's 40pt game. Beat Florida/lose to Xavier.

But after the issues we had in the BE, I didn't want to ruin the mojo. I didn't know that we were going to win it all until like 1 minute left to go against SDSU. Even when we were up double digits with a few minutes left I was holding my breath. When Hurley started going crazy on the bench is when my eyes got wide and I actually said out loud "is this about to happen??"

For me it was the second Marquette game. That was the kind of offensive and defensive performance that translates. If they could do that in the tournament …

To clarify, that’s when I saw the possibility after the mid-season swoon. But I knew it was ours barring an earthshaking development vs. Arkansas.

Arkansas game. The scariest game in the tourney, for me, was Iona and to a lesser extent Miami. I thought Iona would really give us a run (and they did for 20 minutes).

November 28, 2022, the day I joined this forum! I was watching this team and thinking... "Are other people thinking what I'm thinking?" I knew of this forum before then, but I had to come here to see what other people were thinking about this team. I couldn't believe that we had much depth and all of the pieces needed to be so dominant.

I know I'm not answering the real question asked here. I didn't KNOW in November that we would win the NC, but I started thinking it was a possibility then, and I was amazed.

Iona was playing out of their minds and were bound to come down to Earth, but still at halftime I was getting flashbacks of New Mexico State

It was so refreshing to see Hurley remain calm and poised. His first call in the second half was a play for Hawkins who I'm pretty sure had missed every single shot in the first half. 4 point play right out of the gate. He had so much trust in his guys to fight through and win the game, that I don't think he had in previous years. Everyone was loose and just playing ball

Oh and of course Adama Sanogo refused to lose. Ate Iona alive in the second half. Crazy to think that Iona was our most competitive game in the tournament lol

That was huge. I believed we could compete for it at the start of the season. The Swoon caused doubt. This game erased those doubts. Hurley made some really important adjustments coming out of the rough stretch, and those ended up being critical to the championship. Getting Sanogo the ball facing the hoop, running AJax on baseline cuts, fixing the ball screen and P&R defense, there were many changes.

Once in the tournament, when Arkansas beat Kansas and SDSU beat Bama, I believed we were clearly the best team still playing.
