1. Two guards who can handle the backcourt pressure.
2. Our frontcourt pressure D is giving up open threes. Top teams will capitalize.
There were at least 10 instances against Villanova. That's why Geno pointed it out at half time

I am loving the season, but I believe Geno, who just said: "We aren't as good as we look."

March madness will be tight, but I still like our chances.

Turnovers are so very big.
I think of it this way (roughly): Forcing one turnover on average, reduces the other team's point total by 40% of 2 or 3 and
and increases our total by 40% of 2 or 3...........That translates to a differential of about 2 points/turnover.
Opponents that can handle the pressure (somewhat) will not allow the super wins we have been seeing.

Obviously when you have 2 defenders pressuring one offensive player, someone is open.

I haven’t studied the games in slo-motion to determine why our pressure defense is so much more effective than (say) Tennessee’s…Perhaps someone can explain...

We give up few uncontested layups but obviously something has to give…and Villanova found open corner 3’s but unfortunately for them, made too few to make the game competitive.

It will be interesting to see how that plays out in the NCAA’s…one aspect which was negative for Villanova was that their point, being harassed in the back court was also their best 3-point shooter.

1 and done tournaments have an element of luck. the top 4 teams are very good and if UConn is having a bad day any of the other teams have the firepower to win.

Ladies had 2 perfect seasons ended in a row by final four by buzzer beaters. Stuff happens.

This year we have two buzzer beaters of our own.

A team that is better than Uconn and I don't believe that team exists. A team with a better coach than Geno and I don't believe that coach is here. A team with a better bench than Uconn and that bench doesn't exist. Uconn will do all that is necessary to win 6 in a row. Uconn's destiny is already written and that is NO 13 Championship Trophy. GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!

Preface: We're all excited and nervous...
Regarding the full-court pressure D giving up open 3's: one aspect not mentioned in this thread is that the full-court pressure speeds the other team up, thereby affecting their shooting. Ultimate golf analogy to that phenomenon is when players are told that they're playing slow and "on-the-clock". Game goes to crap. That's golf!
One more point: Geno says they have different ways to play. Please watch last year's Final 4 games and remind yourselves how we shut down UCLA and SC, mostly in the half-court. Do we have "shutdown D", like two steps beyond the 3-point line with KK at the point? Could we have better half-court D than last year? Paige was a great defender and 2023-2024 she played the bleeping 4 but we still could be better. Substitute in Blanca this year and even Serah, doing much better defending at the 3-point line and blocking some shots. Could be a clinic. They built a lead against SC without making a 3.

Dogstar is right........don't jinx our janx

I look at it this way. While there are numerous scenarios where UConn could lose and several teams with the talent capable of beating the Huskies, the greatest differentiator is Geno. The simple truth is that when Geno has the talent he almost always wins the championship and this year he has the talent.

Injuries and or foul trouble and UConn could lose. So long as UConn can execute on defense I dont know how else they can be beat. Some teams have a go to player. Some teams have more than on go to player they can count on. Against UConn those go to players have not fared well. We've seen it throughout this win streak which includes last season's FF.

There are so many things that make UConn great. First things first you have to be able to get a good shot off against UConn and that shot has to executed with poise and confidence. Nova lost 3 times to UConn and they have how many losses? (7) UConn has shown throughout this win streak with the exception of Michigan they can blow you out and it happens so fast. You know before you go into a game what they can do. You watch tapes and see what they do. But until you actually face them and experience it you dont know until it happens to you. You can't prepare for it. It just happens due to UConns ability to execute as a team.

UConn is TURBO Charged. There is no team in WCBB that is as quick and fast and under control doing it like UConn. We've talked about well-oiled machines. This UConn team is better than that. UConn plays as an unselfish Unit. Yes, UCLA Texas SC LSU are very talented, but they have not been able to consistently blow teams out and play their bench in the last qtr and not worry about the score. Can you imagine having UConn starters play all 4 qtrs?? Think about what they could do.

I will say this in confidence. UConn is gonna steam roll a lot of teams in the NCAAs. I will be very surprised if a team can keep UConn from scoring under 70 pts and I expect teams to slow the game down in order to do that. I also find it hard for any team to to score 70 pts against UConns defense... Its gonna come down to defense and imo the two best defensive top team are UConn and Texas.

Tonyc, I agree with the potential risk to UConn from injuries. But with all the depth UConn has as well as the number of exceptionally capable defenders who can pressure teams without fouling, I’m not really concerned with foul trouble.

NOOOOO....NOT THE I WORD!!!....I just went from breathing into a brown paper bag to showing the Mrs. how to use our portable defibrillator. 🫩

Geno is wont to say that it always takes some luck to win a national championship. That's true of UConn and true of any other team. Some years it takes more luck than others; I think this is a year in which it will take a little luck for UConn and a lot of luck for another team.

Uconn's team has to play up to, or close to its potential. Two of Azzi, Sarah, Blanca, and Allie have to have good shooting nights. As alluded to above, every scorer doesn't need to be on since UConn has so many weapons, but a few players really do need to have good shooting games. The defense needs to be functioning well -- press needs to be effective (I personally would be more comfortable with the guards being the head of the press and Sarah and frontcourtmate the insurance policy), switching needs to be on, getting around screens needs to be effective.

For another team to win, they'll have to bring their A game and UConn will have to falter somewhere -- foul trouble limits use of the press, a collective bad shooting night, a player has a crazy night from three and UConn somehow can't guard her . . .

Very simple. We play our B game against one of the top teams who play their A game. This scenario is not as unlikely as some here in the BY may assume. To win the championship I believe we will need to play close to our very best.

Every point counts! We're so unselfish that in watching the games it seems that our extra passes sometimes result in missed opportunities. Off the top of my head, I'd say we could score 2-4 more buckets per game or 4 to 8 points.

Not to mention missed bunnies.

In tight games those points could be the cushion needed to thwart an opponent's comeback and/or prevent a late-game need for us to make a comeback in a one or two-possession contest.
