What would be the requirements for UConn to join the Pac-12 for football-only?

One major difference between today and October is the House settlement, meaning UConn needs to come up with a revenue sharing plan. Even if a FB share (call it 80%) of the PAC media deal is $5 million each year, that puts them at the top of G5 before considering NIL. I suspect the contract would be better because of the quality of the football, and as UConn is independent, there are not exit fees to pay.

4 games out west is doable. If Memphis is truly a possible member for FB, make them a protected rival, cut a deal for no back to back away conference games, and UConn football is in business. Maybe even in the playoffs at some point.

The trucks transporting all the football gear could drive directly from Colorado State to Utah State, an 8 hour drive, if those away games are played back-to-back. That's really the challenge for football. 7 hour drive from WSU to OSU. 3 hour drive from SJSU to Fresno. The flights for the football team don't really matter. If Memphis and 1 or 2 other easterly teams end up in the mix, even better.

A trip to Memphis every other year, which is 10 miles from the Mississippi border, is not relief.

There’s no part of Memphis that has any appeal.

If Louisville hooked up with its sister and had a baby that had to be immediately spirited off to a bell tower to avoid the townspeople drowning it, it would be Memphis.

Your plan A is P4 but you need a plan B
We obviously stay in the Big East making $11,000,000 for basketball.
Maybe Football only in the PAC gets you another $8,000,000
but its brutal for travel however you probably do it with charters .
That kids can do a 4/5 hr flight is crazy
I do it all the time and I have ties older than these kids plus I’m flying commercial with connections. .
Why rule out The AAC football only’s get $4,000,000 not great but a lot more than we make now.
plus Its become a more local league
annual games with Army and Navy would be attractive plus it’s pretty regional by todays standards so . You could fill out a schedule with P4 heck we played 4 of the weaker AAC teams last year .
The last one was a shot in the dark but We have a media partner in NBC , why not leverage that the Big Deal deal by adding UConn football to keep us happy make us an offer
If we were to get good enough why not a Indy doubleheader on Sat.

Very true. Louisville views Memphis pretty much they way we view Louisville.

The best thing Memphis has going for it is that the Mississippi river keeps it out of Arkansas.
 
I've never been to Memphis but it seems like a great city. You got the Mighty Mississip, Graceland, BBQ, Memphis Pryamid, FedEx, and no pro football team. Check that. It has the Memphis Showboats.

Finally something I can agree with about Memphis in this thread. I only passed through Memphis on Highway 40 and the pyramid was very cool. I think it would be a fun stop and I even would enjoy watching a football game there.
 
Memphis is garbage. It's like the 400th best place to go in Tennessee.

The city is garbage, the school is garbage. It's all garbage.

You all hated slumming with them in the AAC and now you want to recreate that with Texas State thrown in for good measure? Chuckleheads.

Tennessee is a long state...it is further from Bristol Tn to Memphis than from Bristol to Canada...

You northern guys..LOL ! Memphis is a cultural mecca of sorts...Home to Graceland (southerners must take the Hajj once in their life), the iconic Sun Records Studio...the launcher of Elvis, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Leis, Carl Perkins and others....Museum of Soul Music...and on.

So I live in Memphis and can tell you that Sun Records Studios and Graceland are ridiculous tourist traps. If you go there to watch a UConn game, stay a night & enjoy BBQ (BBQ Shop and Cozy Corner). There are also some really good IPA's down here if you like breweries (Soul & Spirits is right up there with any Vermont brewery I've been to). HOWEVER, Nashville outclasses it as a city in almost every way, and Nashville itself is a severely watered down / mediocre version of New York City.

It's not worse than Bridgeport or New Haven - which are horrible, horrible cities -- so I'm surprised to see so much derision for it on a UConn board. With that said, it's not really a city UConn needs to associate with in any way apart from an occasional basketball series.
 
I have not been to Memphis...I have hit Nashville to watch a musician or two that I know play in a club,

Had good times in Nashville...

But I find that having a good time is within ourselves as much as the location.....heck, we stopped in Sturbridge one evening and had a great time...the local bar was a hoot..who woulda thought ! A couple of locals feeling no pain gave us lessons in how to talk "local" and we gave lessons in how to talk like you were from LA...(lower Alabama).

I asked one "Jeet ?" "Huh ?" Did...You...Eat ?

Oh, I don't think Nashville is trying to compete with NYC in any way, shape or form. It's its own unique city and culture. Way too crowded on the weekends for me, but certainly a fun place to catch lots of music.
 
There are places that I have had fun visiting but that I would not care to live...

Baton Rouge (NOLA)...San Antonio...Chicago...Frisco...Miami...Tempe...Boise...LA etc

Midtown has its charms. I know Memphis pretty well. I prefer Memphis BBQ. In 4 years I never once went to Graceland or Sun and I am proud of that. It is cool that U2 recorded part of Rattle and Hum there.

I like Memphis better than Saint Louis. But we’re not talking about adding the city to the Big East. We’re talking about adding Memphis State.
