What should I expect to pay to have my roof shoveled off?

I have a roof rake. It's not nearly as easy as it looks. I have two feet of snow around my house. I damn near had a heart attack just walking around my house to see how the roof looks.
 
Tom, if your goal is to prevent ice dams, you only need to remove about a foot of snow at the bottom of the roof, nearest the rain gutters. Then as the remaining snow melts, it will drip harmlessly into the gutters. If there is already ice there, I suggest putting some ice melt, such as potassium chloride, in old socks and tossing them into the cleared spaces.

I've been thinking about throwing birdseed up there and letting the fat turkeys slide off with the snow.

The problem with my house is the eaves are ~6".

I have a ranch also and what I do when we are targeted with a large storm like we had is go out every 3 or 4 hrs and use my snow blower and remove snow from the driveway and create a double wide path around the house, and then I use the roof rake at the end of the storm and like @dogpause suggested I take about a foot or so off of the eaves. Works great for me. That way your not trudging though a foot or so of snow around the house.

Our house was similar sized. 8 or 9 years ago, we had a series of heavy snowstorms and a couple ice/freezing rain storms. Paid $300 to have the snow and ice cleared. Six man crew was there about 2-1/2 hours. The outermost 4 feet or so on the side that faced the winter sun was the worst. 8~10" of ice under a 6" or so layer of snow.. that alone took the six of them almost an hour with ice chisels.

$300 is dirt cheap for a six man crew. I pd $200 for one guy, but it's still pretty much all powder.

I've gotten estimates for several things over the past few years over the phone. They got onto Google satellite view or whatever and could see my property.

I always got the estimate by the next day.

My 73 year old father in law did this on my roof today because ours started leaking in our kitchen and I was working.

Answer: Do it yourself, like I did (wink wink)
