She doesn't show up for the bigger games
She carried the team in at least two of the NCAA tournament games in April and has scored in double figures against the ranked teams the Huskies have played this year. One of her greatest assets is that she draws a lot of attention from defenders, leaving more space for Moriah and Kia. It's all part of an intricate puzzle and she's playing her part well.

I do think that opponents are aware KML needs 4 threes to pass Diana in the UConn records books and are determined she won't get them against their team. Defenses seem determined not to give her an open look.

Everyone, of course, has a right to post their opinions that Kaleena is out of condition, overweight, sluggish, a shadow of her former self. And I have a right to tell you that all of this is rubbish. You have a right to your opinions, but your opinions are wrong. That is about as mild as I can make it.

There's not one player who sets screens the way Stef did. If they're going to face guard Kaleena, people have to set picks to get her open. She contributed in other ways; however, we're not going to win the NC with K scoring in single digits.
Geno said at the open practice this year- I'm quoting-"the problem is that our best screener is also our best shooter".

I didn't read the entire thread- but I am certainly not inferring that on my posts at all! She has been playing 35-36 minutes most games!

Plus- if we are scoring high 70's- 80's vs Gd teams, and holding them to 50's and 60's, I don't care if she never hits another three.

The answer to the OP's question is obvious. She's getting all of her misses out of the way now in preparation for March & April!

What is wrong with KML?

After that unfathomably good interior bounce pass to Morgan Tuck with just over 17 minutes left in the second half, my answer would be...not a gosh darn thang.
She made some beautiful passes. But she did have a bit of a rough day. A lot of blocked and deflected passes.

It's more that she's not taking her shots, or getting her normal looks, vs her shooting %. That's the way I see it anyway.

K played hard and was effective, but did not get many open looks. I think she had a head cold today.

I don't think anyone misses Dolson's screens more than KML. I saw her blowing her nose a few times so you may be right.

Mrs Kibitzer and my wife said they thought they saw her with Kleenex over at the bench... Thought the same that she might have a head cold...

I think the opposition is trying to take away one of The most important scorers for The Huskies. Face-guarding and doubling her. Basically saying the Huskies will have to beat them with someone else. Plus , KML is one of the easiest scorers on the Huskies to stop. Left alone she scores 15ppg. Trying to stop Stewie or Tuck would be more difficult. MoJeff and Nurse has the ball consistently so stopping them would be tough leaving shooters open. KML is the logical player to target.

It's up to UConn to find ways to get KML open.

Well, if you recall last year, Duke decided to leave her alone and double Stewie, because KML had been out 6 weeks or so. So she torched them for 7 3s before they finally decided to guard her. Today STJ decided to double KML and Tuck and MoJeff went off. Now, that's the stuff of championships!

I have said it in other posts that her and Stewie don't touch the ball enough, although as of late Stewie is touching the ball more and it shows. The guards play at too fast of a pace and that doesn't bode well for KML. They need to set up more run the offense, set some screens for her and she would be more effective. I think the pace that they are playing is also causing all of the turnovers. They should set the offense up and pass the ball and I think everyone especially KML would be better off. The helter, skelter pace they play at at times causes the turnovers and takes KML out of the games.

Maybe, and I know everyone will say I'm all wet - but the Power of DT (and UCONN history) is keeping KML's shots from behind the arc from dropping in and staying in?

That's an interesting observation. It could be that Geno is working on different things for March, depending on opponents, and match ups.

Or her passes.

KML is the dagger. She does the other stuff to help Stewie & Co. score then if they try to double them...

CD too.
Yes, both of them were using tissues on the bench. I imagine at this time of year, there's something going around the team. Possibly a couple others could be affected too.

I was watching Kaleena on almost every offensive set and she many times wasn't moving well without the ball (i.e. standing at the 3 point line and only taking a step to the right or left as the defense shifted). As a sophomore she was consistently the #1 option on offense and she is slowly moving toward the #4 or even #5 option (1. stewie 2. tuck 3. jefferson as of late).

Despite what many say, I believe she is in shape, but still believe has gotten slower as she has gotten older. I don't doubt her conditioning, I doubt her foot speed. She no longer has the ability to take players on the bounce and seems to be exclusively looking for open 3 point attempts. I said it at the beginning of the year, I think she isn't the same player she was before injury and at this point, I think this is who she will round out her career as. An excellent if not the best shooter to come through the program…not bad. But in all honesty, go back and watch film of Baylor vs. Uconn in the XL center her sophomore year and tell me she was not a better all around player then. I do think she is going through a mid season slump, but I also think her reduced quickness isn't helping.

Ultimately, I do think she needs to work on her quickness and her versatility on offense. If she can be face guarded rather effectively in college, it should not be a problem in the WNBA as well.

OK, so we are going down the list faster then I can read. I'm still with Chong, or is it Stokes? Actually, were we not talking about KML a month ago? Yes, it was the weight thing. There is always something about that woman that keep us returning and returning and returning to her.
