What High School players did you watch live in HS and say 'NBA'

Not football, but I remember going to the class S track and field championship and seeing Bruce Campbell (former Raiders OT from Hamden CT via Hyde and Maryland) throw a shot put and thinking how giant he was. Put that weight like 10 feet past the second place finisher. Disc was 20' past the second place finisher. Yes, I get it was class S. But they were still huge throws.
 
Only NBA player I’ve seen play in high school in person was Aaron Gray (who went to my high school). Had a dunk in high school during a game that shattered the backboard. Everyone knew he was going to the NBA with his size.

I watched AAU for a few years in the 1990s, mostly looking at UConn recruits. I went to an AAU tourney to check out Jay Williams and Tony Robertson, both of whom UConn was recruiting, and Jay Williams was an obvious NBA player and Tony Robertson was obviously not, I was disappointed Duke got Jay. I watched Ajou Deng and Justin Brown who were highly touted play together and came away disappointed, Justin didn't do much and Ajou though he had skills was spindly and not assertive, stood around too much. Some of the players who did impress me were Mike Miller (very aggressive, always attacking), Richard Jefferson, Corliss Williamson. Pretty much everybody I watched who looked like he would be an NBA player in high school, made it.
 
Lamar Odom (LI Panthers), Elton Brand (Riverside Church), Mark Aguire (New Haven All star game), Ron Artest (Riverside Church), Chris Weber (Springfield McDonalds game), Kyrie Irving (Hoophall), Donovan Mitchell (Brewster), Jamal Mashburn (Gauchos at Central CT), Cooper Flagg (Hoophall), Buzellis (Brewster), ... Between Hoophall, AAU tournaments, Brewster games, All star games etc Ive seen a bunch in person. If I included tv, or live streams, the number would be too high to count. One I was sure of never got it going in college or pros I don't think. Vassil Evtimov was the best player on the Riverside Church team that had Elton Brand, Ron Artest, the point guard Barkley, and a third St Johns forward that isn't coming to mind at the moment. I saw at least a half dozen of their games in person and Evtimov was the guy I coveted. Went to North Carolina and laid an egg.
 
Different sport, but I watched Jordan Reed play quarterback for New London and he was just on a different planet than every other kid on the field. Too bad about his concussion issues because he was a legit Pro Bowl level guy when he was on the field
 
Marcus Camby. He was a great all-around player. I saw him in the state final and he barely missed a shot in warm-ups, threes and everything. Then he got to UMass and Squid turned him into a rim protecting defensive player and wasted his offensive skills. He was born too soon. He'd have crushed it in today's NBA.

I feel Abdou Toure is another NBAer. Seen him play on person about 10 times.
 
If Football is cool for this thread, saw Kenny Britt (Bayonne HS) and he made defenses look like straight up fools.
 
I was only 4 years old at the time, so I don't remember it then as much as discussing it more a couple of years later, but Dwight Freeney. Just ended up being a different sport in the end, lol.
 
I played against Drummond several times in AAU, first as a high school freshman. He was already anointed NBA material by public opinion in CT by then but I certainly didn’t disagree.
 
Expanding a bit but I thought both Terry Blitz from my HS Brien McMahon and Bobby Valentine from Rippowam would be in the MLB. Bobby we know, Terry got drafted by the Indians but never got above AA.

Were you initially concerned that he was dominating Maine and maybe on a bigger stage not so much?

I remember watching Vin Baker dunk on my bros high school team and think that he was a bit different. Although that Old Saybrook had another guy who I thought was significantly better. Aaron something?
 
I watched Schea Cotton at TMore and thought he was the best player I’d ever seen. The “Manchild” nickname was legit.

Bobby Moore from MCI/Hillhouse was next level good: thought he was the next AI. Oops.

feel fortunate to have seen so many great players
and games in what was a great time for hs basketball before the prep schools took most
of the good players and yes i did see Dave Hicks
play when i was 9 years old lol
unfortunately injuries legal issues bad decisions
prevented many of these players from getting to the league
