What Can UConn Do To Be Competitive If an Opening Comes Up In ACC?

Howwwww did they not vote either for or against UConn???
SU and Pitt were selected for ACC membership on September 18, 2011. Because they "owed" time to oBE, they did not officially join with voting privileges until July 1, 2013.

Louisville was selected for ACC membership on November 30, 2012. SU and Pitt had no vote in the selection.

Now, once conferences are set, it’s fair to ask what is the incremental effect of any change scenario. UConn likely dilutes any P5 earnings at this point.

It’s unlikely that full conference members get kicked out of P5s. Wake, BC, and Pitt likely stay in the ACC. The Big10 keeps Nebraska.

The next moves likely come from improving a programs position rather than any sort of relegation. For example, if Texas and Oklahoma saw a PAC move as a better opportunity, then the Big12 dominoes begin.
At that point, the Big12 becomes AAC 2.0. Big10 rescues Kansas and Kstate.

Texas takes Tech and Oklahoma takes OkState with it.

Baylor and TCU rescued by SEC

Iowa State and WVU join AAC the conference becomes down as the Big12

AAC schools are overjoyed at being in a “power conference.”

Big12 loses power conference status

The money increased because of the addition of the two teams just as the money increased in the ACC when Pitt and SU joined.

My question was whether ESPN actually increased the number of cable boxes in the NY/NJ area?
Again, not how it works.

(So still you)

Here's something that has a huge bearing on the perception of UConn. But that no one in the state wants to talk about.

And the closer you look the worse it gets. Previous years’ data from the Internal Revenue Service has shown Connecticut tends to see a net loss of high income earners who have the resources to be highly mobile.

The state is an economic basket case and that affects UConn. Each year UConn is getting less and less money from the state government. It is a slow growth or no growth state. Adding Connecticut to your conference means adding a state school that is trending in the wrong direction. A state that is losing jobs. A place that Fortune 500 companies are fleeing. A university that was on the uptick for a long time is now is entering dire circumstances with dwindling revenue. Is that a bet you want your conference to make? You can be sure that other universities use that argument against us.

All interesting points. But UConn has to rely less and less on state funds and more on its endowment, federal research dollars, money from increasing enrollment, and tuition increases -- coupled with more financial aid -- to become an elite university both for sports and academics. The new president, new board chair, and governor are each bright enough to figure this out. At UVA, where our new president was provost, in a recent year state funding accounted for just 10.3 percent of the $1.3 billion budget for the Academic Division.

Could you show me how Wake or Pitt for example bring in 30 million to the ACC or Vandy brings in 50 milliion to the SEC?
Show me how Alabama brings in 50 million?

.-.
What documentation exists that Syracuse vetoed UConn's ACC bid? My recollection from that time is that Syracuse didn't take a position either way.
forget it, he’s rolling.
Just want to point out on a UConn board we have a knickers-twisted Cuse fan here with a ND knob taking a shot which was liked by a Nova fan.

Only on the Boneyard.

At least "according to one moving company." The moving company citation has always been nonsense. How does this square with the fact that houses in CT are selling as soon as they hit the market?

it’s fun to read the football comments here.

Old...from 2015..

"The most recent Alabama gains came with a 6.6 percent revenue growth in 2013-14 as football continues to drive the ship. Nick Saban's program had a $53.3 million surplus with revenues of $95.3 million."

For the 2012-13 football season, the most recent for which financial data is available, Alabama reported football revenue of $89 million, second only to Texas. The $50 million or so in football profit not only supported non-revenue sports like golf and gymnastics, but it also helped Alabama’s athletic department end the year $34 million in the black. While many athletic departments have to take loans from their parent universities just to break even, Alabama’s athletic department sends money the other way. Last year it contributed around $6.5 million to the university to provide for faculty support and non-athletic scholarships.

Alabama, in 2017...

Alabama’s athletic department reported a net profit of $15.7 million to remain one of the country’s most profitable programs, thanks in large part to the $45.96 million profit brought in by its national championship-winning football program, which was actually down 3½ percent from the $47.7 million it made in 2015-16.

I was close! The way Giants fans hated to root for the Eagles, I have to say thank you Billybud!

Alabama is an easy one in terms of eyeballs and ad revenue. They draw ratings like few others.

Hate to derail this thread, but the 'rona has been great for CT. Greenwich is now one of the hottest zip codes in the country as many New Yorkers are moving to single family homes with green grass and space as compared to high risers in the city.

With work from home for plenty of white collar workers, southern CT is going to be swamped with New York license plates. Down side is you now have New Yorkers who grew up in subways and taxi cabs driving cars on roads.

Jersey is being overrun as well. They are scattering like roaches after the light switch goes on.

Gotta be honest. I could care less what happens between NY and NJ. It's like two parts of a swamp sloshing back and forth.

We are the nicer part of that swamp.
