Howwwww did they not vote either for or against UConn???

SU and Pitt were selected for ACC membership on September 18, 2011. Because they "owed" time to oBE, they did not officially join with voting privileges until July 1, 2013.

Louisville was selected for ACC membership on November 30, 2012. SU and Pitt had no vote in the selection.

Now, once conferences are set, it’s fair to ask what is the incremental effect of any change scenario. UConn likely dilutes any P5 earnings at this point.

It’s unlikely that full conference members get kicked out of P5s. Wake, BC, and Pitt likely stay in the ACC. The Big10 keeps Nebraska.

The next moves likely come from improving a programs position rather than any sort of relegation. For example, if Texas and Oklahoma saw a PAC move as a better opportunity, then the Big12 dominoes begin.

At that point, the Big12 becomes AAC 2.0. Big10 rescues Kansas and Kstate.

Texas takes Tech and Oklahoma takes OkState with it.

The state is an economic basket case and that affects UConn. Each year UConn is getting less and less money from the state government. It is a slow growth or no growth state. Adding Connecticut to your conference means adding a state school that is trending in the wrong direction. A state that is losing jobs. A place that Fortune 500 companies are fleeing. A university that was on the uptick for a long time is now is entering dire circumstances with dwindling revenue. Is that a bet you want your conference to make? You can be sure that other universities use that argument against us.

All interesting points. But UConn has to rely less and less on state funds and more on its endowment, federal research dollars, money from increasing enrollment, and tuition increases -- coupled with more financial aid -- to become an elite university both for sports and academics. The new president, new board chair, and governor are each bright enough to figure this out. At UVA, where our new president was provost, in a recent year state funding accounted for just 10.3 percent of the $1.3 billion budget for the Academic Division.

Hate to derail this thread, but the 'rona has been great for CT. Greenwich is now one of the hottest zip codes in the country as many New Yorkers are moving to single family homes with green grass and space as compared to high risers in the city.

With work from home for plenty of white collar workers, southern CT is going to be swamped with New York license plates. Down side is you now have New Yorkers who grew up in subways and taxi cabs driving cars on roads.
