And the closer you look the worse it gets. Previous years’ data from the Internal Revenue Service has shown Connecticut tends to see a
net loss of high income earners who have the resources to be highly mobile.
The state is an economic basket case and that affects UConn. Each year UConn is getting less and less money from the state government. It is a slow growth or no growth state. Adding Connecticut to your conference means adding a state school that is trending in the wrong direction. A state that is losing jobs. A place that Fortune 500 companies are fleeing. A university that was on the uptick for a long time is now is entering dire circumstances with dwindling revenue. Is that a bet you want your conference to make? You can be sure that other universities use that argument against us.
