What attendance would constitute a good showing on Saturday?

I'd like to see it in (pretty much) all sports. Play CCSU annually (assuming Yale won't come every year) in football. Play them at XL every year in MBB. If we're paying an opponent money to come play us, it might as well be one that can contribute to a few ticket sales, and even better if the money stays within the state budget. Helps CCSU for recruiting as well. "Sure we can't pay you as much this year, but you'll get a shot to show your skills against UConn every year you're here." Heck I'm not even opposed to a CCSU student section at the Rent if we're not going to sell the game out naturally.

CCSU has over 100,000 living alumni with around 70,000 of them in Connecticut. That local population is a solid base to draw fans.

Yes but much of that is the difference between a flagship university and a state university. UConn is a different animal. Closer to being a quasi-state entity. Central Connecticut is more like the primary campus of the State University system. They have different functions too. UConn is a research entity offering PhD’s in a range of fields, has a medical and law schools while CCSU is more teaching and “applied research” oriented. These are not meant to demean CCSU. Just to indicate they are a different animal. Most states have similar systems. Massachusetts for example, has UMass system and the state university system with Worcester State, Framingham, Bridgewater and some others. Often though not always the State universities originated as teachers colleges, sometimes they were agricultural schools, The influence/ power of these varies among states.

I only saw 1 report suggesting there was “closer to 25,000”. That was Dom Amore. And he will likely push that narrative again if he gets a chance. My view is Dom is not a UConn football fan. And he was ticked he had to go to Rentschler Field rather than Yankee Stadium. He makes a point of downgrading the program when he gets the chance. Not in big ways but this is typical.

I have degrees from both CCSU and UConn. When I dropped out of UConn in my junior year, CCSU was a great choice for my Computer Science degree since I was working full time and they had many evening classes unlike UConn. I was then able to earn my MBA at UConn Hartford at night. Of course this was over 30 years ago before online classes.

That actually is Central’s role. Fits perfectly. Lots of part time students. I’m not knocking it in the least. I have taken classes there. It is just a different role. Not better. Not worse.

It worked for me. An added benefit was that most of my classes were reimbursed by my employer.

Did the same with Westconn. And saved a bit of coin at a time where I didn't know which direction to go with school and what to study.

Just stop with the character assassination. The upper decks were nowhere near full. Dom is trying to real here, isn't that what you want from a reporter? No way there was over 30K in the building. I've been to more events in the Rent than anyone here and I have a good eye for this stuff.

I was halfway up Section 200 and had a clear unobstructed view of every seat in the sun. Seat 9 with my wife in Seat 8. We straddled the expansion joint in the middle of the section. Perhaps 18,000 if a gate count was ever disclosed. To get a higher count the concourses would have had to have held many thousands.

Are you claiming that there were only 18,000 spectators inside the stadium?

Sorry, that’s an absurd estimate. My estimate of how many bodies were actually in the building (not counting players and workers who don’t sit in seats, but counting the band) would be about 30k. And whatever your rules for counting are, that is as many people as I’ve seen in the stadium in at least 10 years.
 
Here is why I hope we keep inflating those numbers or go by tickets distributed. Did you see the articles about G5 attendance? Who was up there? Good pr about attendance gets Big 12 and ACC eyes in our football growth.

That's just not accurate. The parking lots were more full than I've seen in a very long time. The lots on the other side of the road from the blue lots were filled. If everyone was in their seats at once, we'd have around 28-30,000.

Regardless of the number people in the stadium folks have in their minds, there should be no complaints about what they experienced of the fan turnout. Unless of course folks like putting sticks in places then telling everyone how it feels

No way there was only 25,000. I had it around 30,000. When you add in the others that everyone counts in capacity, maybe 32ish. And not liking Dom Amore is hardly character assassination. I don’t think he is a great writer. His priority is not UConnFootball and I think he regularly tries to take shots at UConn football. He did it in 2022 when Mora shocked everyone and got them to a bowl. And beat a ranked team at the time and a P4 team along the way. (1 was using a backup quarterback. We were using our 3rd qb but ok. The other had a first year coach. We did too, but again, ok). Last year we won 8 regular season games and had a winning record for the first time in 15 years but per Dom they weren’t good teams. Despite the fact that we weren’t a good team for many years and we are now beating them. We have a crowd that exceeded anything we’ve had in a long while. Parking lots full, people enjoying things. But Old Dom says we only drew 25,000. He isn’t an outright opponent but he does not miss a chance to down play any accomplishments. Heck, if we go unbeaten, go to the CFB playoffs and win the national championship Dom would write that it was a good accomplishment but Ohio State had much nicer uniforms and Danny Hurley was at the game wearing a blue shirt and grey pants. And the Yankees would have won if they were a college football team and they, not UConn, were playing Ohio State. That is just what he is.

I was there and the numbers were definitely more then 30K so your wrong. My eyes are better then your eyes.

Let me just join the crowd in pointing out that you are way wrong.

18k would mean the building was less than half full. It was more than 3/4 full, so a little north of 30K seems like the number to me.

I was looking perpendicular to the entire sun side sideline stands. There was never a time during the entire game that they were close to half full.
