What are you binge watching?

So...watch everything up to the season finale?
I'm still undecided on it. Felt like it could develop into something good at times, but then other times it seemed to me either. You will see there's one episode where they realize they're on cable and decide to add sex scenes. They kind of spread that out a a bit over the season rather than lumping it into one episode, but it's a choice. At the end of the first season, there is one pretty good twist and one gratuitous one.

I shrug and give it neither a thumbs up nor a thumbs down

This was actually pretty good. I enjoyed it and I am looking forward to next season.
Should've been better, but definitely worth the watch. Some good ideas and production, but I found myself yelling at the characters to do something else that seemed obvious on a number of occasions. I like the Cobb character.

My wife and I just kept saying "This poor guy. What else can happen to him?"

The set-up for a next season looks decent.

On a whim started watching a series on Tubi. "Savage River." Australian drama from a few years ago. Stars Katherine Langford, I've seen her in a few things (always playing an American), but don't know any of the rest of the cast. In this she was just released from prison after about 10 years for killing her best friend. She returns to her small town, where everybody hates her other than her twin brother. Watched 2 episodes, I think there are only 5. Decent so far.

Task on HBO. Great show. After that I will watch season 3 of Alice in Borderland on Netflix.

And it is not a binge. But I am watching season 4 of Industry too.

Wonder Man

After three episodes, I'm not real sure whether the show is really good or really bad, but it's something. This is a new Marvel series. Wonder man is a high maintenance actor wannabe who gets the lead role of Wonder Man. At the same time, he is developing new superpowers.

This show is getting great reviews, but I'm still on the fence.

I've been catching up on 'It: Welcome to Derry'. I want to see it through to completion but good Lord is it gonna be a struggle.

Bad writing, lousy plot, mediocre actors. And perhaps worst of all scripting roles for preteens that impossibly give then psychological attributes of adults.

Can't say this is the first time I've been disappointed with a King adaptation but this is well and truly one of the worst.....and I don't imagine it was cheap to produce, either.

Do not waste your time. What an embarrassment. Then again maybe I should have expected this when I realized Steven Krajewski did not receive an EP credit; so he was not involved in the writer's room.
thanks for the warning. I just watched Castle Rock on Netflix - couldn't get through to the end, just cold turkeyed it in the middle.

.-.
Just binged season 3 of ‘The Gilded Age”. Quite enjoyable. Great scenery of both 1880s New York and also Newport. I thought the character development was also excellent. They give you people to root for and against. That Julian Fellowes sure can write drama.

I almost always finish even if watching feels like a chore. I felt that way about season 1 of Fallout.

Yeah, I get where you're coming from. I tend to the 'completist' in pretty much every aspect of my life....and in this particular instance that bias did NOT serve me well.

OTOH, the second season of 'The Pitt' is just as great as the first. Zero dropoff.

Also watched the first couple episodes of HBO's new 'Game of Thrones' spinoff. I thought it was terrible; but then again I stopped watching GOT after the Red Wedding episode because I grew tired of seeing my favorite characters killed off (I have not read the books).

I didn't start season 3 because season 2 got so soapy. I like the period, but I don't like some of the aspects of Fellows' formula, such as the low stakes and always happy endings. I may give it a shot.

Industry is a little too GenZ for me, so I think I am dropping it. The plot is getting increasingly unrealistic, and the antics of the analysts are getting increasingly ridiculous. Some kid smashes himself into a glass wall, twice? That wasn't even the stupidest thing that happened in the last two episodes. The scene where Eric locks Hunter in a conference room was bad enough. I was hoping the show would just move on from that stupid scene, but it becomes a huge turning point for the whole first season, so I am out.

Re-engaged. Am halfway through season 3, and the show gets better. The plotlines are more realistic, although they still occasionally go off the rails.

The actors literally get better over time. The Yazmin (Marisa Abela), Robert (Harry Lawtey) and especially Harper (Myha'la) characters were not believable in season 1, but the actors have gotten a lot better, and as a result, the characters are more layered and credible. Rishi is a great character, and deserves more screen time.

The guest characters have gotten better. Kit Harrington plays an upper class dip****, but does a great job with it, making the character interesting and even compelling rather than a caricature. This is a tough role, and the best acting I have ever seen Harrington do. Sarah Goldberg (from Barry) is very good as a hedge fund manager.

It still has the GenZ issues of being overly self-obsessed and dramatic. The plot armor around the three main characters is also a little thick.

I assume you're talking about A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms here. I've watched the first three episodes and have enjoyed it so far. It's a much more YA version of Game of Thrones, so it's much lower stakes. At least through the first few episodes, the most "shocking" scenes so far showed a guy having explosive diarrhea.

Heh....a lot of what went on in the first two episodes was not necessarily over the top in terms of real life analogues. I speak from experience......albeit a bit more muted. Pressure makes people do weird stuff.

The off the clock stuff is somewhat realistic. There are a lot of degenerates in capital markets, although the days of bringing it into the office ended a while ago.

Harper does something in episode 5 or 6 in Season 2 that is fraud against her employer, and she would never have traded again the rest of her life if she did that in real life. I know a bit about this industry too.

The Artful Dodger. On Hulu. This is rather cleverly done. Thomas Brodie-Sangster is Dr. Jack Dawkins, the Artful Dodger of Oliver Twist. David Thewlis is wonderful as Fagin. Maia Mitchell is super cute as Lady Belle Fox. The Dodger was sent to prison and left there by Fagin. He escaped and stole the pocket watch of a Navy surgeon, but was caught. The surgeon, appreciating his gifted pick pocking hands, offers to teach him and the young boy joins the Navy and learns medicine and surgery on a British Navy ship. Fast forward to the show and he's working in a colony in Australia along with the Irish and convicts that populate the place. Lady Belle Fox is the Governor's daughter but wants to be a Doctor, though it's not permitted for women. Fagin arrives as a convict and the Dodger is shocked, thinking he was hanged in England. That sets the stage. Well written and acted and a really clever adaptation of these well known characters.

I'm currently watching Cobra Kai. Loved the first two seasons. By season 4 I'm tired of the kids switching from one dojo to another.

That was pretty much my view of it. I gave up. There's only so much of people being ridiculously stupid that I can really take. Big fan of Daniel's wife though, no idea how he pulled that off (but then I had no idea how he pulled off dating Elisbeth Shue in the movie).

Agree it's stupid, but so are all the Karate Kid movies, really. I enjoyed it but, admittedly, I couldn't watch totally sober. They should do an "LDSA" series based on Li's Defense Sytem for Adolescents (run by the wicked Master Li) in the Jaden Smith/Jackie Chan version.

Lotta people said CDO traders that were at the epicenter of the late 2000's crackup would never work again.

That turned out to be.....wrong. You make enough money and the Street has a very, very short memory.

I ended up finishing off Season 2 of Fallout. Maybe I won't bother with a third season. It had it's moments, but it was really slow, and a lot of it was boring.

I've watched 2 episodes of "Steal" on Amazon, and I'm rather enjoying it.

I know people that are blacklisted just for working in the same group as someone that committed fraud. Most CDO traders lost so much money that they could be effective traders for the rest of their career and never get back in the positive. That is an unforgivable sin.

The scene I am talking about is when Harper asks for a price looking claiming to be helping a hedge fund client sell off a big block, then flips it and buys for her client, screwing her senior trader and her bank. First of all, the Senior Trader, Rishi, would never have executed that trade. Secondly, the Desk Manager was listening, and even in the warped rules of that show, Harper was yanked off the desk. Obviously, even the writers of a highly sensationalized view of trading knew that scene was unrealistic. Ripping off clients is one thing, ripping off your own firm is another.

The show just keeps jacking the sensationalism quotient. Everyone does massive amounts of drugs and are written off the show in some unpleasant ways. Ironically, it would make the show more realistic if it the showed characters abusing performance enhancing drugs, which is becoming a problem on Wall Street and other high stress jobs.

It wasn't great at the start, but it has gotten really good. Too bad it's only 6 episodes. Last night's episode was fantastic.
